I got to thinking (way ahead of time) how awkward it is going to be to have more than half of Kahns rotate but leaving Dragons of Tarkir behind in standard for half a year. Some things like Deathmist Raptor are clearly a bit of a build around card and as such they require very specific cards to run them. It just feels like Dragons is going to be a really awkward straggler after the first half of Kahns rotates but leaves Dragons with Origins as its supposed other rotating set.
In a lot of regards, Dragons had a lot of mechanics that could work as standalone effects but some of the mechanics such as Deathmist Raptor seem to rely on the whole block in order to work in any reasonable way in a constructed format. We have Bolster, Rebound, Megamorph, and Dash which are all sort of building off of mechanics and cards we got from across Kahns block.I guess what I am saying is how are these mechanics going to be supported when we move to loosing Kahns and Fate Reforged from standard. Do you think that Origins might actually have some hidden interactions with Dragons to offset this upcoming issue?
I know this is thinking wayyyy out ahead of time and in some regards its thinking about what we might see from origins because of it, but how do you feel Dragons is going to handle when its the straggler of Kahns in standard? Do you think that Origins might have more in common with Dragons of Tarkir than we originally thought based on how awkward this rotation is going to really be when we get around to it?
CoreSets always had support for both the in coming block and some last bits for the out going block. So yes Origins being a CoreSet+ means it will have things for Tarkir block. And no it won't have more in common with DTK since the new rotation was decided after the designers transitioned stuff to development for BfZ. Meaning a good chunk of the Origins was already done with if not already completed.
Its just going to be awkward because of shifting out the old way and shifting in the new way faster. Its better to go into 2016 fully under the new rotation than try heading into the new rotation with part of the old system there making unbalanced block sizes right into the new rotation. Tarkir block would've had more cards than BfZ block and Tears block.

After leaving a block, they usually print cards to hose it rather than support it (see Ground Seal after Innistrad, Burning Earth after RTR, Back to Nature after Theros...) They do not want the same decks to remain the best after a new set comes out, let alone after a rotation.
But really, in one year of now when we're getting all these new cards, I don't think many of us will care if Deathmist Raptor becomes unplayable.
I would expect Origins to synergize with its adjacent sets much like any other Core Set, with some extra goodies for the previous block and some seeds for the upcoming block. Of course this practice of synergy also extends to the blocks themselves; KTK's mechanics played well with some Theros mechanics and cards, like Prowess and Bestow, Ferocious and Monstrosity, and Raid and the Ordeals. Likewise KTK block and especially DTK will play well with BFZ.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

on the other hand because of the new rotation system, khans and fate will orate out but dragons will stay making up a "block" with Origins. so I can see Origins supporting Dragons, and then Zendikar having the hoser cards for those.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Origins focuses on DTK a lot more than BfZ assuming it has any synergy with BfZ at all. It is rotating in the new rotation scheme so I would be surprised if they went with the old means of block set synergy considering it is rotating in a way that the old block sets did not rotate.
This is of course purely speculation but I dont see why they would use the same means of design for this last block set that they did for the ones that rotated in a completely different way. If they for instance made cool cards that BfZ relies on to make their cards to work when this core set rotates BfZ would loose playability from that rotation which in my mind would be sort of odd to do. If anything, its more likely to have a focus on DTK and so when it rotates it will cause less impact on the sets that came after it. You normally have a core set rotate out as another core set rotates in so the new core set replaces some of the lost functionality with new functionality that covers the block that is sticking around. Rotating the last core set out and having it have synergy with the block that came out after it would mean you would drop intended functionality of the block while keeping the block in and not replacing what was lost.
My opinion at this time is that Origins will be either a standalone or it will have synergy with DTK. It seems like it would be a very bad move to set it up to operate with BfZ from a long term plan.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
I actually feel like Dragons of Tarkir was designed in a way that a lot of the core mechanics were given cards that bring them to full form and will probabyl make them playable even without support from the rest of the block. A lot of the best morph support is DTK (Deathmist, Den Protector/her cycle of constructed-designed Megamorphs, Shorecrasher Elemental, Unstable Aether etc. missing mainly Fate Reforged's Whisperwood Elemental and Mastery of the Unseen). The +1/+1 counter theme and also got a lot of very important cards like Servant of the Scale, Scaleguard Sentinel, and Avatar of the Resolute, and Dash got a lot of its heavy themed support in DTK as well (Ambuscade Shaman, Warbringer). Though Origins will certainly introduce its own set of synergistic cards I'm sure, even if they don't directly feature keywords. There will probably also be some totally new synergies not currently clear.

They didn't care that he was the savior of Fort Keff, the great hunter of Ondu, the champion of Kabira. To them, he was just another piece of flesh, a thing with life to be drained away.
But the people behind the barrier knew.

It will for the most part because 'Sweat' is part of BfZ block.
