Deathmist Raptor -This card stands out from the rest of the set to me. This little guy is the only lizard in an entire block of dragons- he just doesn't fit in.
What are the chances of him being a plant then?
Could the set after Battle for Zendkiar be the prehistoric/dinoworld that is on MaRo's shortlist of potential worlds to visit? The set after BFZ will be in the same standard as Dragons of Tarkir for a few months. Could it be Muraganda?
What do you think? Are we going prehistoric next year?

Deathmist Raptor was made before they decided the new rotation so its unlikely to be a plant for any set after BfZ. At the time they made DM-Raptor, remember DTK was made before FRF, they would be world building the set after BfZ so they wouldn't be sure what the world is like yet.

The raptor would only be a plant if there's some considerable lizard tribal going on in the hypothetical pre-historic block. Not that unlikely, but I'm not sure a single card that could maybe hint towards a theme that could maybe be in a block seems a bit farfetched. Plus, if there really would be lizard-tribal, then they would have had a lot more chances at printing lizards than just a single raptor.
If there's no lizard tribal, then the card won't be a plant. They don't do flavour plants.
Overall, I'd say it's unlikely, but not impossible. I also think going from Zendikar to Muraganda (or another pre-historic block) would be a bit too similar. Both Zendikar and Muraganda are very primal in nature, so I would assume we get to a more "civilized" world after BFZ.
Remember originally we weren't supposed to have a return to Zendikar after Tarkir, it was moved foreward. So It could have referenced the block after Zendikar.
Where was it stated that Battle for Zendikar was pushed corward?
Theros was pushed forward because Ethan Flichers idea for a block with a set in the past, present and future of a new plane wouldn't pan out well for the future set because it would either take place too far into the future that current plots would never get to it or it would be to close to the present and returning to it players would already know the outcome.
Though we now know that Tarkir used some parts of that idea.

Depends what you mean by "sure"... they have a 7 year road map and depending on when you think DMR was inserted that would have at least done initial explorative design on the post BFZ landscape. Also there is a chance DMR is a card that was borrowed forward.
However despite that I think DMR is the normal sort of mythic we see in sets, individually cool, not really tied to the sets theme, but not really against it and represents something players go ape ***** over for some reason (Okay dinosaurs are cool RAWWR!).
Heck as mentioned in the other replies it could be a leftover design from Ethan Flicher's evolving world block.

As stated, DTK will be in the same standard as BTZ and block after. that means they must have considered the new standard rotation during DTK design.* so plants for the next two blocks is not unlikely, and even probable. they might not have done that in the past, but the new rotation would give them reason to make plants two block ahead.
* the idea for new standard rotation was probably decided few years prior, but only announced when it was the right time. otherwise, R&D and FFL would go in blind and have trouble balancing the format.
It is valid to note that, while the set wasn't on design process when Deathmist Raptor was made, they already had some idea of what the block would be (the 7 year plan, how much ahead the creative team is working...)

The new rotation may have be talked about internaly by Wizards prior but they didnt decide until BfZ (Blood) had been handed from design to develpoment. So even if the moved the ideas for blood block forward they would have done so long before Tarkir block got released. I.e- while working on stuff for Tarkir employees get a memo about the current 2015 isnt panning out and the idea for 2016 need to be pushed ahead since its a return.
All of this would be happening while they were still in the mind-set of '3 sets per block each year'. Putting a plant card in set for another two years isn't something they would do. I.e- putting more than normal enchantment focus in Innistrad yet haveing to go through RtR then the payoff in Theros. It would be to long of a payoff for players to bother remembering.
And your kidding me right? Your ridiculously silly. R&D and the FFL knew about '2set,3block' rotation two years ago. Not at the same time as players.
@ Trifas- Anything past the two year mark is sketchy while in the rolling plan and it what they want to do in the future. None of it is set in stone yet. Hence how we ended up with a return to Zendikar earlier than initially planned. Speaking of which in MaRos write up of the 6 year plan he explain about the small window of time he had to convince his boss at the time that a land block could work. Otherwise they'd have to work on another theme. Zendikar would'nt even be the block we know it as today had it not panned out well.
I guess if they knew that it would be a prehistoric set it is more than enough to motivate a small hint on a card released two years before the set.
Not that it is an unquestionable proof that we'll visit Muraganda after BFZ, but maybe, just maybe, it could be a hint.
There's also the fact that Muraganda is the only plane that I know the name but we didn't visit yet. Maybe we could visit one of the planes we'll get to know in Magic Origins instead.
Your still not getting it. They wouldn't have made DMRaptor specifically as a hint for a plane that they already knew was getting pushed back and before they had decided to do 2 set blocks.
You not knowing other plane names, that also doesn't make it a fact, that have been mentioned on cards Warstorm Surge (Immerstrum-plane Valla) Jace's Phantasm (plane-Iquatana) that we haven't visited doesn't mean Muraganda is the only option.

Why would the plant for the Tears block be so tied to this block's morph mechanic? Wouldn't they want their plant for dino-tribal be playable in dino-tribal, without getting an useless ability in such a deck?
Because I don't think they'll be doing any form of face-down theme or subtheme so soon again.
Standard baseless speculation: [Random card] absolutely must be a plant for the next block, whether or not it makes any sense at all as a plant because I can't tell the difference between a vague flavour connection and mechanical synergy
Complication in this instance: But we already know the next block is Battle for Zendikar.
Illogical conclusion: Therefore it's a plant for the block after that!
All of you who think this is a reasonable thought process, I hope you are enjoying playing your Gold token decks in this current Standard.

To be fair, Gold Tokens were considered as the Sultai mechanic.
And I hope you don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it must be a hint and there's no other possibility for the next block other than Muraganda. It is just a possibility, a very tiny one, but still a possibility. If I had to guess, Muraganda is where I'd put my two cents, but is a shot in the darkness yet.
Somberwald Dryad was the only Dryad in Innistrad block that was supposed to be about Humans vs Werewolfs vs Vampires and it didn't amount to much. We had 3 dryads in RTR and one in all of Theros and the creature type was never relevant.
They explained once why they do that, but I can't find the exact source.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

Whenever we visit Muraganda (or, as history would suggest is more likely, a world resembling Muraganda but named something different for legal reasons) it will not be hinted at by a card two blocks prior that is a fine mechanical fit for its own block but looks like it has the wrong flavour to people given to over analysing these things. At the best of times I'm sceptical about extrapolating years in advance from a perceived "plant" but this is not even on that level because it's clearly designed to work with Tarkir block mechanics and there's nary a hint of anything being set up for future developments. It's a prime example of how this sort of thing never turns out to be true, and we have all the pieces, but you've managed to find one more unknown that will permit you to carry on believing there is something here for another few months. If this thread had been posted before we knew about Battle for Zendikar it would have claimed Fall 2015 was Muraganda and once it was known that this was not the case then this speculation would not have been given another thought.
Muraganda Petroglyphs synergies very well with morph. If the synergy is good enough for standard that's enough for a hint.
That is not even close to enough for a hint. For one thing, as I said, when we visit Muraganda it might not be called Muraganda anymore and they would therefore not reprint Muraganda Petroglyphs. For another, there are any number of mechanics or specific cards that interact with Morph in interesting ways. They can't all be in the same Standard. Since Tears will only share Standard with Dragons of Tarkir for 6 months, there's not even any strong reason to believe there needs to be any interaction with Morph in that block. The number of different permutations and combinations of mechanics they can put in Standard is so enormous that this is a Speculation dead end. The chance of any card you identify with this method actually being printed in Tears block is not appreciably greater than the chance of any random card. This is bad enough when there is a clear mechanical connection with an adjacent block, and it only gets worse as people try to justify progressively more distant connections.
Risen Executioner has a bit of sinergy with Delve, as you can exile the creatures to reduce the extra cost, a with Exploit, as you can sacrifice him and cast him again from the graveyard (though I would probably prefer to exploit something cheaper and weaker)
What are the chances of him being a plant then?

Yes, but I am talking about the Spring set after BFZ, which will be in the same standard as DMR.
