How do you guys think that the main standard deck archetypes will change because of Dragons of Tarkir? There will obviously be quite a few, especially with the new amazing planeswalkers and the commands.
Im just wondering if you think the top teir decks will stay the same, or they will change.
Temur is definitely going to see some more play, but, I'm not sure if there's enough removal or ways to deal with cards like Elspeth.
I think there's a Naya Token combo deck with Descent of Dragons and Dragon Tempest, for what can really be a consistent Turn 4 or 5 kill, when done right, not to mention, something that can incorporate a lot of the major dragons as one-ofs.
W/u Devotion has a lot of major players to it, a strong Midrange Strategy can definitely be created, and a powerful White Weenie deck--splashing blue for card draw.
There's a deck for Collected Company that is definitely viable. Probably in Abzan Aggro colors, so we're looking at a faster and more threat heavy build.
Abzan in general gets a mirror breaker in Assault Formation.
Green Red Aggro gets a lot of strong designs, though mostly for a devotion strategy to continue to put out big monsters.
U/W gets Myth Realized, and burn strategies as well get another enchantment to draw attention away from their other enchantments, while giving themselves a constant and better defender. Red/White may start playing as many as 2 Copies of Myth Realized, as a way of answering bigger threats in the late game, and there may be a more controlling build, to really use this effectively.
Control strategies also may find themselves using this tool, as a way to block and get there tools on.
I do agree with the enchantment hate, there is actually so many enchantments that are rediculous enablers in this block now.
Assault Formation will work perfectly with Abzan and their Seige Rhinos especially.
I think that (In my opinion) Green Red Aggro is going to shoot up to a fairly decent top teir standard deck. It will most likely be based off of dragons, expecially using ramp to get the dragons out and then use Dragon Tempest to deal a little bit of ETB Damage, and then wreck with Atarka because he will have haste, its fairly rediculous.
I dont think Elspeth will be one of the biggest threats in standard after DTK comes out.
Myth Realized may be a good card, Im not completely sure, it does seem good, I guess time will tell to see exactly home much play it sees in tournaments.
Structurally, Naya has the better build, enough mana dorks to make the move early, turn 4 or less, green gives you the ability to have a creature strategy, as well as Whisperwood Elemental, so that you have alternative win cons.
I don't see how a combo that requires W + X + Y + Z can ever be called consistent, not when thoughtseize (and duress) AND removal in nearly every color exists. It's not like jeskai ascendency where you need very little to actually get going, and just the mere threat of it is enough to change how an opponent plays.
I think U/W/x control strategies are actually going to be a real thing (rather than people just copying Jim Davis). They got quite a lot of strong cards coming their way. I can also see temur control being a thing - any walker that has a plus ability that draws a card is worth looking at in some form. So hopefully we see more innovation on that front, rather than the same stagnancy that's been going on for awhile now.
