WotC admitted that they "cheated" in the Alara block by having a focus on five-colored cards in Conflux and having such cards as Jund hackblade or Grixis grimblade in Alara Reborn (i.e., cards whose mana cost contained one mana of a single color and one hybird mana). Therefore, why could they not "cheat" again in Dragons of Tarkir, such as by having more cards akin to the "blade" cycle from AR?
For dragons that could work with one color and 2 of some other.
Also with yasova out how much of the focus be away from wedged alliances to dual color dragons vs dual color clan members (or blade color)?
Will we get another version of progenitus?

Two reasons, 1) that seems to be the space Fate Reforged "wedge" cards are playing in and 2) This set is Large-small-Large, which means Dragons of Tarkir gonna have a mechanic and theme reboot like Rise of the Eldrazi and Avacyn Restored did. Hopefully the block has a better flow then the last two sets had (which i believe since Avacyn Restored messed better then Rise did).

I think one thing those why who are pro wedge set are not thinking about is this. yes there might be a set full of wedge designs, but then what do you use when you want 1-2 wedge cards for the next 10 sets.
"Oh we already used that for takir"
there's also the fact that you start reproducing more and more of the design space of Alara, so that they just look the same.
I also get the impression that Wedge is harder to design then Shards because the shards colours are complimentary and usually share more design space.
I find it really weird that people question the lack of design space issue, when you look at the mechanics of the last 3 blocks and it's really easy to see how similar they can be. Heroic vs Prowess and Outlast etc.
I also find it weird that people think Maro has any sort of deceptive agenda, They guy is about as honest and open as you could possibly ask from a company representive. More importantly he actively works to minimize the possibility of misinterpretation / disconnect of expectation. Look at how clearly he learnt from the Theros/enchantment block misunderstanding and how clearly he is working to make sure to be very clear that Takir is not a Wedge set and why.
It's only one set so far, but it has created a diverse Standard, an incredibly deep limited environment (my goodness, the action from worlds this week has been awesome!), and also impacted older formats. That checks an awful lot of boxes. I feel this is a high point for magic.
And NO set will ever deserve to be compared to Homelands. I played back then. All sets back then had issues, but Homelands had basically no redeeming qualities beyond flavour.
Hey now, Homelands gave me a very important card for my Minotaur Tribal EDH Deck, Didgeridoo...
I definitely understand why people are salty about being given one set in lieu of a wedge block, but I think it was the right decision in the long run.
