I don't it's going to be a full colourless matters theme in FRF (the hybrid card to me says we'll still have some multi coloured in FRF) I think colourless may start in FRF and go into Dragons of Tarkir. Remember Morph is Draconic magic on this plane so we'll probably see most of it in the third set
Colorless matters is a very Ugin thing (Ghostfire), so I can see them adding it in Fate Reforged with an 'if you payed with colorless mana, do X' sorta mechanic as a part of the set. Not sure I see Colorless Basics as a 'forever thing' since it doesn't come up that much.
Yes, I guess colorless basics only makes sense in an enviroment where you can get some benefit from playing it. Right now I can only think on:
-Colorless commander
-Domain decks (assuming it works as Barry's Land intended to)
-New mechanics that care about you using colorless mana

Hybrid off color activated on one cycle does not mean there will be a heavy multicolor aspect to FRF, just that there is some multi-color support for Fate Reforged draft format. Activated Abilities are not deck disabling features, and do not suggest a heavy multi color set. This simply means that it continues to play nice with the previous set without alienating the next set.
It could likely be a Hybrid Mana/Colorless mana set. Giving focus to both. The Hybrid mana helps the Wedge set of Khans without being to demanding later on, while the Colorless mana sets up for Dragons which could be mono/colorless themed. Who knows.
I am intrigued by this new Basic Land. That's a game changer.
Not a huge one, but it's still one. They could call it Desert but that'd kind of suck for Desert.
I didn't think it was going to be heavy I said there was some. Looking at the numbers I'd say there's about 35-37 Non mono colour cards I figure we'll see about 10-15 Gold/hybrid.
I really, really hope that WotC does not ever make a sixth basic land, since that would mess with the game almost as much as introducing a sixth color; colorless does not need a basic land, and such a basic land would be strictly worse than the other five, if such a land were ever to be printed. This game has five basic lands, one for each color; that is how it has been done for twenty-one years, and it has worked very well, thus far, so I see no reason to alter it, now.

I think i have it's not a 6th land it's a set of 5 like snow covered lands
Look at the wording for Myriad Landscape two basic lands that share a land type. That's an awkward wording Two basic lands with the same name seems simpler, but the way they've worded allows for stuff like Snow Covered Plains and Plains or maybe Plains and what I'm going to call Hidden Plains (because that's what the Draconian Magic for Morph does it hides the creature)
I doubt that's even close to the name, but I think that's the basic idea
As to why you would ever use them, there has to be some benefit. It can't be like snow lands where certain permanents can only be cast because of limited. It could be provides two colourless mana if you're casting a colourless spell (however they may have to specify non Artifact colourless spell because of Affinity) it could be like a Mono coloured slowland but again you need some benefit, or maybe it works like morph where it's a colourless land until you pay some mana then it becomes coloured land.
For example Hidden plains
Basic Hidden land Plains
Tap for 1
3 Tap: put a focus counter on Hidden plains
Tap: Add WW to your manapool for every focus counter on Hidden plains
^ I was about to suggest something similar but simpler:
Illusory Plains
Basic Land - Plains Illusion
T: Add 1 to your mana pool.
This doesn't have much use outside of EDH,
but it would enable colorless decks to function a lot smoother.
They could also print some enablers to make them more appealing for Standard,
like "Illusion Lands you control have T: Add 2 to your Mana Pool".

That may be too complex for a basic land though.
That also doesn't have a colourless colour identity so it doesn't in any way fit the comment about Commander. A variation like the one Empathogen suggests has the drawback of its type being totally arbitrary; why is this a Plains when it doesn't do what a Plains is supposed to do? Is there going to be a "basic land type matters" thing going in Fate Reforged and/or Dragons of Tarkir? None of these seem like satisfactory "solutions" and unless Aaron specifically identified being searchable by type-based searched to be one of the problems they were solving (incidentally, it would be really nice if we could get the specific words and context that he actually used) I'm not sure we can leap to that conclusion. It's quite inelegant for a land to be a Plains but arbitrarily prevented from producing white mana.
Don't forget that if it has the subtype Plains, it automatically has the ability "t: Add W."
I could see "Ruin" being the colorless basic, since that's pretty flexible flavor wise, and is man-made, ergo, not part of nature, so no color for you.
EDH can't be the only reason why they'd finally make the basic colorless land. They've figured out enough mechanical space to justify making the land.

Wouldn't work in EDH as a colorless since a plains has the inherent ability to tap for white mana.
Just look at Murmuring Bosk or something similar.

After restarting a land themed set from scratch I used the Locus land type to give the set a land based focus. Now that they say they found the answer to a colorless basic land im pretty sure its just going to be....

Though I would only expect to see it in commander, not standard.

Why does everyone here actually seem to not be bothered by the idea of a sixth basic land? Am I the only one here who believes that it would be a horrible and unnecessary change to this game?
As an alternative to having a colorless basic land, why not print a colorless land that has the clause "a deck may contain any number of cards named [cardname]," as is the case with relentless rats? As much as I dislike that clause, it is better than breaking a central aspect of this game that has existed for over twenty years without any problems.
Both Relentless Rats and Shadowborn Apostle could essentially be re-mechanized as "basic" creatures. "Basic" is already defined in the game and can be easily applied to any card type. Imagine a spell like this:
Stop to Think 1U
Basic Sorcery
Draw a card.
It's a feasible card that does not break the game outside of Thrumming Stone, much like how a basic 1/1 creature with a type costing one colored mana wouldn't break the game.
I fully expect it to be a subtype-less basic land that taps for {1} while still working with terramorphic/evolving wilds/every other card that just straight up gets a basic without qualification. This allows them to leave domain alone while still enabling mono-brown commander decks so they dont lose to every non-basic sweeper out there. It's a half-step towards Barry's Land without having to fully realize the changes necessary to implement it.
From a packaging standpoint, if it were to show up in Fate Regorged, it would have to be in the land slot. Also it would need to be in the land slot for Dragons to make sure that as a 'basic' card, enough would get out into circulation.
The Relentless Rats mechanic would not work as it is nonfunctional in Commander. This contradicts what Forsythe said which is that this new land would work for colorless commanders. I'm leaning more on this colorless land being Basic.

Super easy design and doesn't screw with things like Dream Thrush.
EDIT: Nath'd. Oh well.
Seems the most intuitive way to play it. And perhaps an addendum: Colorless Land is neither basic nor non-basic. So it doesn't get pulled up by Evolving Wilds but also doesn't hit you with Ruination, etc.

Guys, a Colorless Commander deck can't not have a Plains because it's a Basic Land - Plains or because it can tap for it can't have a Plains in it because the rules consider the GiANT as a normal which is illegal in any deck with a non-white commander.

That doesn't fix the problem with a colorless commander deck folding to Ruination due to no available basic lands being playable in the deck.

But considering all those hints we're getting on a colorless matter theme for Fate Reforged, could this land see print on it?
If it does, and it is indeed Barry's Land, could we see the return of Domain in this or the next block?
