Do you think there will be some sort of mechanic in the future sets that care about high toughness, similar to ferocious?
Something like:
Generic red spell 2R
Instant
Generic red spell deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
If you control a creature with toughness greater than its power, this deals 4 damage instead.

Specifically, it's a subtheme of the enemy color pair Black/Green (like warriors is a subtheme of Black/White). Having a high toughness creature around is easier than having a high power creature around, both because they can print high toughness creatures for very cheap and because they are harder to remove. If they choose to continue this subtheme, I doubt they would make the conditions like ferocious, where you get a bonus just for having a high toughness creature. Most of the cards in this subtheme involve the high toughness creature dying.
The large amount of cheap walls in this set is, I gather, a reflection of wanting to slow down the format so that large morphs and expensive gold cards can be played.
I doubt it. It's just a theme for the set. The last set probably won't have anything to do with this set mechanically, and Fate Reforged will probably not be introducing anything that serious relating to Khans since it has to accommodate both sets.
Mardu Ascendency isn't really a "toughness matters" card, unless you count "This can be sacrificed to make your tokens survive Anger of the gods" as "toughness matters."

Well, after seeing Valorous Stance and the new bolster mechanic in FTF, it seems Khans block WILL have some sort of toughness matters, although I think at this point it's too early to tell.

M15 also has a couple toughness matters cards in Rotfeaster Maggot and Pillar of Light. I think it is just a new mechanical focus WotC is playing with, because they didn't do it as much as power-matters in the past.
Its just a subtheme in the Sultai wedge, likely put there to give them something to do when you have more than enough delve cards.
Abzan, actually. Remember, the Abzan value endurance. And while a few cards have Sultai watermarks, it's definitely more Abzan. White and black get greater toughness, and green just gets bigger creatures.
Note that the color second for big creatures is blue, and red gets greater power and less toughness, hence Temur.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

It's the Black/Green pair, it's both of them. For the sake of Limited, there are a number of two-colour themes and strategies and this is the one for black-green. It's designed to fit into Abzan or Sultai.
I would very much like to see a focus on creature toughness, since there are already numerous cards that focus on creature power, but far less that focus on toughness.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
I remember reading a while back that they wanted to start giving some black creatures higher toughness than power to try and carve out more of a unique identity for them.
