Wizards just announced the 2015 Pro Tour and Grand Prix schedule on the stream of Pro Tour Portland. One thing it note is that for June 2014, there will a Modern Grand Prix for three weekends in a row. Could this mean Modern Masters 2 in Summer of 2015? And as people have pointed out, there will also be a Grand Prix on three different continents on the weekend of May 30-31, 2015, with the format TBD, and people are saying that this could be Modern Masters 2 limited. http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/2015-pro-tour-and-grand-prix-schedule-revealed-2014-08-02

For the first time in the history they moved the 3rd set of a block to as early as March! It's just 2 months after 2nd set - such a short period between Standard set releases hasn't happened before. This is an insane release rate but also clearly looks like they are making room for something big.
My call: Modern Masters 2, with a different name because it will be different this time. The set will contain entirely NEW cards designed specifically for the Modern format, and will have an unlimited supply. The "TBD" Grand Prix will be limited of the new Modern set.

Wouldn't that go against the Modern format? Modern is supposed to be cards printed in Standard Expansion and Core sets from Eighth Edition forward. If they were all completely new cards they wouldn't be legal in Modern without some kind of a format change that allows cards from specific supplemental products. If they did that it would be more complicated to keep track of than it's worth (I'm looking five years down the road with several of these products printed along with other supplemental products not legal for Modern). If they do a Modern Masters 2 it will likely be all reprints like the first one.

Might be a way to transfer pre-existing non-Modern lega cards into Modern, however, that would avoid them entering Standard. Like the Mirage fetchlands, for instance.

If MM2 was next summer, wouldn't they want have a Modern Pro Tour to support and stimulate interest in it? I think that this is a good indication that we won't see MM2 next year. I can agree that there is a good chance of a product being released in that wide open time frame, but it could also be something completely new, like Conspiracy was.
If they want to reprint the fetchlands, being in a Standard expansion would make them more money, as well as make a bigger dent in their current price.

As Pro Tour now means "Promotional Tour" you have a good argument on why MM2 could possibly NOT have any new cards to shake up the Modern format. But Wizards gave multiple reasons on why they dropped Modern from the PT, it was mainly about them wanting the format to remain stable, reducing risk of something getting broken and reducing the need to ban cards. If MM2 is just reprints then they don't need a Pro Tour for it.

Not really. Standard sets will sell anyway because players are basically forced to buy them cause their decks constantly rotate. However any supplemental product, no matter how bad, will sell like hotcakes if they included fetchlands in. Fetchlands in a booster set like MM2 would alone turn it into a product as hot as MMA and we just know the other slots won't be crap either.
In all seriousness, though, I suppose you're suggesting Legacy Masters. I'm kinda unsure what it would contain, but I suppose I guess I could see it happening. Sorta a nonrestricted list version of Vintage Masters.
Well, when it's coming out at the same time as 3 TBD GPs immediately followed by 3 modern constructed GPs I'm assuming Modern masters since the 1 legacy gp is already in the list

Yep, it can very well be a Legacy Masters including legacy staples that are also modern staples.

That's a possibility, but 3+3 modern GPs in a month seems a bit out of place to me. Let's just wait and see :>

That makes sense. Aaron said in an interview that they decided against Modern Pro Tours because they consider the format stale. Outside of banlist changes and printing lots of new good cards in standard, the only way to shake up modern is something like that. They have been know to do this in Legacy already. Printing for Modern is jumping through a few loops but it's something that will happen next June or later.
It will be interesting to speculate about what cards we'll see in a MM2 and what new decks may have impacted the format by that time.
Cards we will se in MM2 will have to be Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant, Vendilion Clique, etc., because they goofed it up the first time by making them all mythics, with a limited print run, with expensive pricing for a single booster, which shot all their prices to ridiculous amounts.

Thanks Musicman. I didn't notice that when I watched the SDCC video previously. Interesting indeed.
I would be surprised if whatever is announced for May/June 2015 is not a Standard legal set. Neither Modern Masters nor Conspiracy effected the release of the spring Standard sets and it seems odd that they would be giving a ancillary product that much of a buffer.
I hope they print more in the MM2 run. I would like a few boxes this time round.

"To realize that all your life—you know, all your love, all your hate, all your memory, all your pain—it was all the same thing. It was all the same dream. A dream that you had inside a locked room. A dream about being a person. And like a lot of dreams there's a monster at the end of it."
Could we be getting a fourth set in Khans block around May?
I think all signs point to this.
More than likely the set will somehow bridge the Khans of Tarkir block into the 2015 fall set. This was something MaRo mentioned they were considering for Avacyn Restored (being set on Ravnica) but based on the feedback from Rise of the Eldrazi they changed it. I'm posting from my phone. I'll try to find the Drive to Work podcast where he mentioned that tomorrow.

Yeah, I remember this as well. IIRC, Coldsnap was originally going to be Ravnica pt. 4, but they changed it. Then it was going to take the place of Avacyn Restored because Design didn't think they could stretch "top-down Gothic Horror" over three sets, but they changed their mind.
I was also skeptical when the "unique block structure" turned out to just be a different draft format. I'm guessing they're going to pull a fast one on us and announce a 4th set. Does anyone remember how they did it for Lorwyn/Shadomoor? I wasn't following too closely back then.

It also helps compensate for no Modern PTs,
though who knows what state Modern will be in by next Summer

There's another clear sign that something special is coming in May - it's in the 2015 Grand Prix schedule (http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/2015-pro-tour-and-grand-prix-schedule-revealed-2014-08-02) - following a long 5 month break with no Modern GPs at all there are 3 "TBD" GPs at the same day on 3 continents and just after them 3 Modern Constructed GPs, also 1 per continent.

2014: Vintage Masters
2015: Guess what's missing here...
Knowing WoTC.. probably Standard Masters.

As to Legacy Masters. Vintage Masters was only online, so different ballgame.
All signs point to MM2, but Vintage Masters just isn't going to happen in paper Magic. Now, Vintage Masters 2 online is another story...
