I could have sworn people were saying the same thing last year that the fall 2014 block would be zendikar. Oh wait it's a new plane. Imagine that.
Fetchlands can appear anywhere. Whoa you mean misty rainforests occur on many planes? What is this?! And there's polluted delta's on many planes? Incredible. Absolutely incredible. Same with shocklands. Temple garden's can be anywhere surprisingly. Godless shrine is probably the most obvious one though with isolated chapel in the block preceding RTR (Innistrad.) Proof that these things can occur pretty much anywhere.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
A return to Alara will likely happen before Zendikar as it was also a very popular setting.
You think this because original Alara came before original Zendikar and you believe that the returns need to follow the same order, correct? But there's another complication, return to Alara cannot be Blood because that would be too soon after RtR for another multicolour block (just as original Alara was too soon after Ravnica). Zendikar could return in Blood (which is not the same as it being 100% confirmed) and I think it's silly to claim that they will withhold it purely for the sake of doing returns in the same order as the originals.
No, I am saying a revisit to another plane is just as likely to happen next as a return to Zendikar. It could end up being Zendikar, or it could be Alara, or it could be Dominaria, as they are all very popular settings.
It could not be Alara because it would be too soon after Return to Ravnica. Blood could of course be any number of non-Zendikar planes, including a new plane, but it could not be Alara and your post that I quoted only mentioned Zendikar and Alara (and claimed the latter would "likely" happen first).
Except that they did go back to Ravnica to reprint shock lands....
That is backwards. Reprinting shocklands wasn't the reason they returned to Ravnica. They returned to Ravnica because they wanted to go back to the most popular plane ever. And when this decision was made, they realized most players would ask for shocklands there, and so they did.
If they didn't return to Ravnica ever, they would eventually reprint shocklands in some other plane, or in a core set or Modern Masters 2 or whatever.
If we do return to Zendikar before fetchlands are reprinted somewhere else, then sure, Return to Zendikar will most likely have fetchs. But that doesn't mean they can't do fetchlands somewhere else if they want to.
According to MaRo's comments, the planes likely to see a return in the next few years are Alara and Zendikar, with Innistrad and Theros only in a more distant future. Lorwyn/Shadowmoor and Kamigawa are considered failures and very unlikely to be seen again. Ulgrotha and Mercadia are too obscure. Finally, a third Ravnica or Mirrodin/New Phyrexia are also possible. I'm not sure about Dominaria.
And remember returns are rare (the recent case of return/new/return/new was very atypical).
You asked MaRo if it was a possibility, but what about a timeframe?
The point I want to stress is that you Zendikar maniacs have been speculating that Zendikar was the next plane we were visiting since before spoiler season of RTR. "Zendikar is the next block 100%" has been said on this forum ad nauseam. As soon as they announce the name of the next block a year from now, I guarantee that someone will make a new thread exactly like this, predicting Zendikar in Fall 2016.
And no matter what 'clues' you find or how the zodiac is positioned in relation to the Halbot's comet and there was explosions in the second tower when the sun aligned with the moon, unless MaRo explicitly states that Zendikar is the next plane - it's not.
So yeah, but no.

Old enough to know better, much too young to care.
Seriously, the 'return to Zendikar' cult is starting to be as annoying as 9/11 truthers or Doomsday predictors.
"Hey guys! did you see that "July" has 'ul' in it!? That's so similar to ULamog! Zendikar coming next plane CONFIRMED!"
I would opt for the people who claim Damnation is going to be reprinted are pretty annoying. They never let up and I have been hearing it before M13 was spoiled. I hope WOTC just prints the damn card (no pun) just to quiet these people.
So are people not considering the Nissa thing at all?
Wizards had the apparent opportunity to commission six figurines. So they do the Lorwyn Five, duh, and... Nissa. They chose Nissa, a one-shot bit character with less relevance than Tibalt instead of any number of more popular Planeswalkers like Sorin, Gideon, or a Theros tie-in with Elspeth. This obviously means that she's going to be in M15 in Garruk's slot (since Garruk is probably getting special G/B treatment or something), and she's most likely in M15 to keep up with the continuous Zendikar tie-ins/reminders we've been getting every new set.
So yeah, if 2015 is a Return plane, it's not going to be Alara or Lorwyn. It ain't gonna be Dominaria either, since they would foreshadow the hell out of that. All signs point to Zendikar.
My theory was that if a film is coming out next summer, Zendikar 1.0 would be a good film candidate for a few reasons:
- Jace and Chandra are involved in Zen 1.0's storyline; the two flagship characters (face it). Sorin and Nissa as cool secondary chars.
- Monster Movies are generally popular (Eldrazi are awesome).
- The style guide of Zendikar isn't too out-there, pretty generic fantasy compared to some other planes, so it won't alienate non-Magic players.
- Zen 2.0 could come out the following Sept (2015) and continue the story, giving movie-goers/new-players a direct transition. Movie goers will expect the card game to tie in, anything else doesn't make sense.
The toy of Nissa only confirms she's coming back, and her only function so far is Eldrazi-related. It's strong, but there could be a middle-man block where she does something else. I'm expecting her M15 card to be that middle-form to hold us over till Zen 2.0 (and remind us she exists).
I'd love a thematic return to Time Spiral, but admittedly it's motivated by a mechanic-love for the set rather than the storyline per se. ( Flashback was brought back well in Innistrad, just give me some more Suspend to splay with, and I'm happy. )
You have three main villains in MTG. You have the Phyrexians which were the bad guys in the traditional Dominarian Story Arc and the Mirari Story Arc. The latest portion of that story was in Scars of Mirrodin Block. If I recall correctly the Phyrexians now have the Mirari... Or will if Wizards remembers that they probably have it.
Then of course you've got the Eldrazi. Big scary cosmic horrors of awesome. Last and only time we saw them was on Zendikar.
Then you have the Elder Dragons. They're all dead except Nicol Bolas who is a Planeswalker and general evil genius. He's sort of everywhere and no where. He's a puppeteer. If there aren't Phyrexians or Eldrazi its probably him. Even if you have Phyrexians or Eldrazi, still probably him. If something happens in the Multiverse its probably because Bolas wanted it to happen.
So will the Eldrazi become an issue again? Yes. Will that be a return to Zendikar? Probably. Is it Fall 2015? Maybe.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
They really need to do something that they were going to do with Scars of Mirrodin block, but they didn't do. They should make a plane, then in the third set or so, reveal that it was revisited plane.

I'd actually love if they did this as the return to Innistrad. I'd like a return to Innistrad eventually, but I'm worried they'd get caught up in trying to recapture the horror theme they started with rather than expanding on the world post-Avacyn. By concealing somehow the true identity of the world, they could make a "standard fantasy" setting and then reveal at the end that it used to be Innistrad.
I'd love to revisit Lorwyn but I seem to be in the minority. It was a truly epic block, great cards, great mechanics.. It was the first iteration of Tribal done right, which they have perfected in Innistrad. The tolkien-esque themes were a refreshing break from the grim-dark nature a lot of blocks wind up in and the story-telling just from the cards was well fleshed out.
I'm with you on that one. If we remove the Faerie-overpowering, the plane and sets were quite enjoyable. Half the art didn't befall my taste but I also kinda liked the childish art-style in some of them. The overall largest satisfaction was actually to see creatures without huge P/T criteria but rather a lot of utility and interactions. And indeed it was tribal done right (if we forget those pesky Faeries that they pushed too far).
However it did kinda turn dark and gloomy in Shadowmoor and Eventide.
Sorin, Lord of Innistrad played a major role in Dark Ascension and was trying to restore balance on Innistrad, like he did for Zendikar long ago Jace, Architect of Thought was the protagonist of RTR block and was on Ravnica to try and learn what was going on on Zendikar Gideon, Champion of Justice was on Ravnica looking for help to kill the Eldrazi Kiora, the Crashing Wave was on Theros looking for sea monsters to kill the Eldrazi
Sarkhan is going to play a major role in the next block, Khans of Tarkir
Nissa will most likely be the green planeswalker in the core set since Garruk is going B/G and she has a Funko Figure
Seems like every block except Scars of Mirrodin has had major ties to Zendikar...

I agree that zendikar is due to revisit soon but the expectation for that set is such a sure-fire seller that much like ravnica, they won't want to do it too soon.
I'm right there with you, but Rosewater's tumblr seems to imply that Wizards doesn't really like tribal. That, combined with the idea that the plane has been drastically altered by the time the block ended, makes our dream unlikely.

Personally, I've found the "Return" sets have not been as fun or memorable as their originals were. The new places we've been to have all been great though.
With Sarkhans plane being visited I expect either Bolas and/or Tezzeret to show up especially with the dragon theme looming overhead. We may ultimately get a villain walker block after theros 3 heroes and 1 villain walker set. So what hero walker shows up in Takir? I'm thinking a new walker with 3 returning villain walkers. It might be a set up for a return to Zendikar. I would like a multiplane block where the Eldrazi break out and invade another plane maybe meeting the phyrexians in the process. Image that epic battle with Zendikar walkers caught in the middle

Don't expect to see a more direct answer than that from MaRo than this: Zendikar block was very popular you it’s on the short list for planes to return to..
Zendikar was a very popular set which makes a return a real possibility.
