A bit off topic, but I was doing some research on Ancient Greece a few years back, and remember reading that Athens had an altar for "the Unknown God" just in case they missed one. That maybe the case of the RG temple. They made the other nine and were like, "what if we missed one?" So boom, the Temple of Abandon is made.
On topic, MARO ANSWERED MY QUESTION AND I DONT LIKE THE ANSWER
Think it would make sense from Wiazard's point of view to kill a planeswalker from time to time to keep the tension.
Although, regarding Jaya Ballard recently there was some discussion on Blogatog about whether she was killed "on camera" or not. Apparently, she wasn't--meaning that we never saw her die in the story, just heard it through somebody else. Venser, on the other hand, was killed on camera. In relation to these things, Mark Rosewater seemed to indicate that there was a small possibility of Jaya Ballard making a reappearance--"But Wait! She wasn't dead!"--but Venser was more or less dead forever.
I have (a completely unfounded and speculative) feeling that they might want to kill key characters "off camera", to keep open at least some small possibility of bringing them back.

I do kind of like Ajani…
Regarding this, very interesting, but it could mean almost anything.
Imagine you are Mark Rosewater and you get this question. You know Ajani will die. What do you answer?

Well, in that sense you are correct, but I don't see Ajani replacing anyone based on concept (Ajani wouldn't become the god of revelry for example, and it wouldnt make sense for Ajani to be the god of the sun) and like I said, just headcanon, so I don't want to make a debate out of it here, but I see Ajani finding a very strong calling to stay on Theros and in general fulfill some cool character development. My hopes and expectations involve Ajani becoming a RG god (of his own conceptual domain) and that god using his newfound power to target himself and create a avatar of himself, OR Ajani becoming the first (known) tri-color (WRG) god.
That's what I'm saying though, it isn't just an issue of Ajani replacing Xenagos as a god of revels, but replacing Xenagos AT ALL. It's been longer than anyone can remember since there MIGHT have been a RG god that Xenagos took the place of. We, as players, are aware of the missing hole, but that doesn't exist to people living on Theros. There is literally no call for a replacement GR god. They do not perceive a hole in the pantheon the way a player sees a hole in a cycle.
Considering he is GW as Mentor of Heroes, it would be so much more likely that there would simply be 2 GW gods of different domains than for his colors to bend around to be GR.
Well, one thing is fairly trustworthy, by the end of Theros block (and/or Godsend p2) we'll know, and if nothing extravagant has happened, then Ajani & Elspeth will have missed their chance to die or ascend or get Nyx-based upgrade/constellation thing. A little more on topic: I'm convinced that Ajani has more to do, and I'm even more convinced that once the majority of fans are Ajani'ed-out, he'll get some sort of big-time upgrade in responsibility that can't be ignored without consequences, very much alike to Jace's guildpact status considering Ajani is another of the Lorwyn 5 and I can understand have had too much constant spotlight. Becoming a god/avatar of a god/or other divine upgrade is just one example.

3WWU, 2GWW, and 4RWW! These were the mana costs chosen to summon the perfect little angel! But Professor Avacyn accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction! We haven't heard anything from Bolas in an awful long time though. I do wonder what he has been up to. A reprint of bolas would be really touchy. He was already so powerful. It would be a hard gauge to match. Making him less powerful would take away from his legacy, and making him more powerful would be waaaay to broken.

Whats the big deal about black lotus you ask? Well you see, there is no big deal about it. It IS the big deal.
I don't think we'll get a new Bolas iteration for a while. We'll see his agents but otherwise he's mostly a schemer who sits behind the curtain and watch how his plan unfolds.
Yeah so Ajani probably won't be dying to Bolas then. So i wonder how they are going to kill him. He'd better die to someone powerful. Some kind of planeswalker. Not just some normal creature.
Or of old age.
But i think he won't escape the grasp of death forever. And i would rather he die than wizards just stop printing him with no explanation.

The best would be if he could help Sarkhan clear his mind of Bolas' influence and have him redeem himself by blasting Bolas or help trap the Eldrazi again - granted he shouldn't actually kill Bolas but at least cause him enough harm so he has to keep low until a later point.
Ajani himself could also do this, preferably by engulfing all three colors of his homeworld Naya (RGW) and cause us to gain a 3-colored Ajani card to rival Bolas.
If Ajani did that, and helped to free Sarkhan from Bolas (It would make sense as Ajani defeated bolas, making him the biggest BAMF planeswalker there is.) I would also like to see him help lift the curse off of garuuk, because someone has got to do it.
Maybe there is more in store for Ajani than we see, but he is already a mentor.

Let's say Ajani dies, and core sets now have to follow the storyline of the block expansions and everything else. Ajani would be replaced by Elspeth, and Jace, who probably wants to stay in Ravnica, would be replaced by Tamiyo. Garruk is still cursed, so he can't be his iconic mono-green color, and would be replaced with Nissa. Liliana and Chandra stay in their Black and Red thrones respectively.
What do we have? That Motley Crue song.

...Good lord, now I have "Girls, Girls, Girls" stuck in my head...thanks!!
ajani is the only PW capable of taking on bolas by himself. as he is a central character in the bolas story arc, i dont see ajani dying at least until the bolas arc is revisited. even then it would take a whole hell of a lot to kill such a bad ass ol kitty man, maybe something more powerful than bolas even. maybe he will die by giving up his spark to seal away the eldrazi forever or something but i think it would take something that big both story and power wise to kill him.
Not a chance. He's too popular and Wizards is a "Popular makes the rules" sort of company, not a "Let's go against popular opinion!" sort of maverick. They're making product, not art, and Ajani is too big an item.
When Ajani dies he will either sacrifice himself to do... something, or Bolas will kill him. As the only one to face down Bolas and walk away from it unscathed, he will not die to anything small. He probably will end up sacrificing himself in a fight with Bolas.
(Not killing Bolas, just stopping his latest scheme for a plane, similar what happened on Alara)

Get outta here Bolas. Your opinion is nothing to Ajani.
But yeah that seems like the most likely option if he dies at all, that he'll sacrifice himself for the greater good, as every mentor does.
I want to see him sitting with his grandkids on his lap drinking a glass of tea with thick glasses, yelling about how things use to cost less.

Plus, he probably kinda does like Ajani.
[Edit: Since Venser] Mark Rosewater has previously professed no love for any planeswalkers. By saying he likes Ajani at all makes it so he likes Ajani more than any other. That cat is dead.

He wont die... he is a planeswalker in M15, is he not?
funko is making action and plush figures of him for M15... so he will not die
One does not necessarily mean the other. He's definitely getting an action figure... but new data shows he might very well be getting the boot for Gideon again.
As someone mentioned Ajani "mentoring" being portrayed by his +1 ability of giving counters, I can see his ultimate as portraying his ultimate sacrifice.
Basically, him sacrificing himself for the greater good of Theros....whatever that means. Maybe jumping in front of and thus saving Elspeth from an arrow to the knee so that she can still defeat Xenagos.

It doesn't help matters with the fact Gideon is set up to be in M15 by what we've seen of the PAX handout.

So he's the only core walker to be replaced twice? Yeah, definitely not a good sign.
What question was he not asked? I was only ever referring to the question you are quoting.

Apparently Gideon is the white planeswalker in M15 (I think).
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.

... So Ajani will get married to prevent Elspeth from getting married?
Well I suppose she needs her evenings free to stop rampaging gods...
