Last time I started a thread for Theros and Born of the Gods with a similar theme. I just wanted to start a collective of ideas flowing for our final set of Theros block, Journey into Nyx. Here are a few of the main questions to discuss, but keep in mind you can talk about whatever you want! Remember, you can talk about what you would like to see, what you hope to see, and what you think we will see. All of which are fun to discuss and speculate on. Remember, some of this will be baseless speculation, but a majority will be based on what cards we have seen in the first two sets of Theros block. We have a basis to work with.
- What mechanics and abilities do you think will return for the final set of Theros block? In Journey into Nyx, a large set, they usually drop a mechanic or ability in place of a new big one. What are your thoughts on this?
- What reprints are you expecting, if any, in Journey into Nyx?
- Do you think they will try to remake any cards for Journey into Nyx? For example, a lot of people have been speculating about a colorless Academy Ruins for enchantments. I could see this as a possibility, especially since enchantments are a huge part of Theros.
- What do you think the last five Gods of Theros will do?
- Will enchantments receive a new ability?
- Will any of the other minor tribes of Theros get a lord?
- Will Black finally get it's mass removal spell that everyone has been preaching about?
- With enemy colored Gods in the final set, do you think we will have stronger support to lean for the enemy colors?
- Will Xenagos remain a God?
- Will we see Ajani? Is he going to be our first White/Green Planeswalker?
- Will there be any other planeswalkers?
- Legendary Minotaur?
- 1-2 Drop Minotaurs?
- More Krakens, Leviathans, Serpents, and Octopuses for Whelming Wave?
- What other Greek myths are left to be used?
- Cycles to be finished?
I hope that was a substantial list of things to be discussed. Below is a list of cards that I believe could be reprinted into Journey into Nyx. After that, I will leave you free to discuss whatever you want! As always, have fun!
I imagine we won't see any more Tribute. I expect that there will be a new twist for the "Monster" mechanic for this set.
Scry, Heroic, Bestow, and Devotion will all be back. These are too core to how the block plays. Inspired will likely return as well, though it may also be left by the wayside for a different mechanic.

Hmmmmmm the way the block goes, it feels like scry and devotion are the skeleton. We can be certain they'll return.
I'm unsure about Heroic and Bestow, although MaRo has mentioned bout Bestow being the glue to the block, so I'll pen that in as well for JOU.
I'm also pretty sure we've seen almost all iterations of Heroic at this point, and to preserve design space (or perhaps they've been exhausted of options) Heoric will be left out.
It's time for Monstrous to return in JOU, and like a fairytale ending, Heroic will be replaced by something "cool" to save humankind and restore the immortal-mortal balance in Theros.
Sidestory: Xenagos will be banished from THS and chained to a hedron in Zendikar. lol
I really want a a academy ruins for enchantments and a five color legendary thT does things with enchantments. -if the enchantment is blue draw a card, if the enchantment is white indestructible until end of turn... My dreams... Will probably not become true...
- What do you think the last five Gods of Theros will do?
I'm particularly interested in Kruphix, since I've been playing blue-green. I suspect that she won't mimic the effects of any of the other big rares in blue-green, so no: scry (Thassa), card draw (Zegana), flash or untap (Prophet of Kruphix), extra lands (Courser of Kruphix). Since the ally-color gods didn't grant static abilities, and since the Archetype creatures covered most of the remaining abilities that the mono-color gods didn't touch, I doubt the enemy-color gods will grant abilities to creatures.
What could she do? Well, she's god of time, but I'm kind of at a loss. Blue did once upon a time print Temporal Spring, but I don't think they'd mimic that ability. Some sort of flicker effect on creatures, perhaps? Or bounce your own creatures to dodge removal and abuse come-into-play effects?
- Will any of the other minor tribes of Theros get a lord?
Satyrs, centaurs, medusae, kraken, hydrae?
- Will Black finally get it's mass removal spell that everyone has been preaching about?
They got Drown in Sorrow. That's good enough.
- Will we see Ajani? Is he going to be our first White/Green Planeswalker?
I assume so.
- Will there be any other planeswalkers?
Based on past patterns, no.
- Legendary Minotaur?
That'd be fun, but who? It'd be nice if he could somehow pull you into a labyrinth or something, though that doesn't feel very red-black.
- What other Greek myths are left to be used?
Odysseus and a long journey.
Have we gotten an 'Achilles Heel' card?
Philosophers like Socrates?
Scylla and Charybdis.
Kratos, the God of War.
Xena, Warrior Princess.

Ajani is already as the only planeswalker in JOU since it is a small set.
As for tribal, Leaning towards a Mythic/Rare Legendary creature for either Satyrs or Centuars. for these reasons:
Hydrae: They have Polukranos
Medusae: Hythonia
Krakens: Tromokratis
Cats: Brimaz.
Iroas may be based on the myth of Kratos.
I want a functional or better version of Black Sun's Zenith. Drown in sorrow is DEFINITELY NOT GOOD ENOUGH. I mean come on, U/W gets Supreme verdict that kills everything for 4 and we get a -2/-2 for 3? I'd even settle for a Damnation with a downside, like "Damnation: Destroy all creatures, you lose 5 life". Also I definitely wouldn't consider Drown in sorrow 'Mass removal'.
I also want Keranos and Athreos to have an impact if even small on standard.
I'm going to take a gamble and preorder a box early if I can find them for 85 to 90 bucks. The gods coming out are in casual-friendly colors, we will likely see a GW Ajani, and I feel like they need some "wow" stuff, as well as planting hints for the next block.
God Guesses:
Keranos: Each creature you control has Scry 1.
Pharikos: Hopefully something other than Dredge/graveyard stuff.
Atheros: Hoping for a tax ability. "For each creature that attacks you/planeswalker you control, its controller must pay 1 mana or 1 life".
Iroas: Whenever your creature deals damage to a player, you may deal 1 extra damage to that player.
Kruphix: No clue, but I hope it will be fun. I like UG.
I feel like this could be the "Enchantments Matter" set. With the steady increase of enchantment creatures, 'journeying into Nyx' (the enchantment realm of the Gods), and the still-lack of (non-artifact/creature) global enchantments in the block.
I mean...naming the set after the enchantment realm, there's got to be more of the enchantment theme, right?
Here's two arts from JOU---via the Planeswalker's Guide to Theros and the initial Theros reveal. In the PW guide it says "art", not "concept art", so they must be from cards. Take from these what you will:

that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur

Bestow, heroic and scry are my guesses. These have been in the first two blocks and I'd be surprised to not see them in the last one.

Unfortunately I don't think we will see that land. The set is "enchantment matters", but mostly as creatures so my guess is we won't see such a utility land although I'd love it. I could see them making a card that hoses devotion though, something like "Punish the Believers" that deals X to target player equal to its devotion to the color of your choice.
- What do you think the last five Gods of Theros will do?
Kruphix: "whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may have it become a copy of another target creature you control EOT". 5/6
Athreos: "whenever a creature you control enters the battlefield or dies, all opponents lose one life. You gain life equal to the life lost this way" 4/7
Keranos: "Whenever you cast a spell, if it's not the first spell you cast this turn, draw a card and deal 1 damage to target creature or player" 6/5
Iroas: "At the beginning of you upkeep, something"
Pharika: "Whenever a creature dies, you may search your library for a land and put it into the battlefield tapped"
- Will enchantments receive a new ability?
Yes, no idea rhough.
- Will any of the other minor tribes of Theros get a lord?
I don't think so.
- Will Black finally get it's mass removal spell that everyone has been preaching about?
I know that they develop way ahead of time, but I do think the last 2 sets have been remarkably weak in combination for eternal formats. I think Wizards will take note of that backlash and probably push 1 or 2 cards too much and get into DRS shaman. I also know this may sound crazy, but I think they will print a Jund card. The fact that they banned BBE and then DRS, I think they will print a decent Jund card in this set to offset the frustration of those players a bit.
I'm also expecting the rumored G/W Ajani, and I'm expecting him to be one of those cards that they push too much. I think they will make Ajani the first planeswalker with 2 3CMC versions which will be the flaw.
1GW Ajani
Starting Loyalty: 4
+1: Gain 1 life for each creature you control
-2: Each creature you control gets +1/+1 and gains trample until end of turn
-6: Put an emblem on the field that says: At the start of your upkeep, but a token on the field that is a copy of a creature you control. That token gains haste.
- What other Greek myths are left to be used?
Odysseus and a long journey.
Have we gotten an 'Achilles Heel' card?
Philosophers like Socrates?
Scylla and Charybdis.
Kratos, the God of War.
Xena, Warrior Princess.
We have a bunch of Odysseus allusions. I don't know how you could do a card to sum up the whole story. Gift of Immortality It's invincible except until the end of the turn it died. Vortex Elemental and Scourge of Skola Vale
Keranos is the god of war
Elspeth might be kind of warrior princessish.
Journey to Nowhere will likely not be back since we have a new ability template.

No, it's not just Banisher Priest. It's also Chained to the Rocks and Colossal Whale. It's a permanent change. Now, that doesn't mean a card with the old template will never be reprinted anywhere, but we'll probably never see it in standard again.
I want a Legendary Cyclops a damn Bad¨¨¨¨ Legendary cyclops something like:
Tromopes, Akros's Destroyer 2RR
Legendary creature - Cyclops ( MR) 2RRRR: Monstrosity 2
At the beggining of your Upkeep, If Tromopes is monstrous, you may have Tromopes fight up to two target creatures.
4/4
And a legendary(or simply a non Legendary) demon or zombie that puts Gold tokens.

I'm a fan of the change. It makes way more sense this way, and sure it cuts down on SHENANIGANS(tm), but it makes it alot easier for the new player to understand.
It doesn't really cut down on shenanigans, though. I've never seen it actually happen outside of casual Commander games, where you can do the shenanigans forever, anyway, and they'll probably reprint the old ones in Commander precons. I guess it could realisically happen in limited, though.
We still didn't really get a Herakles (I am not counting Mistcutter Hydra).
As far as I can tell, we have not cards referencing Oedipus. Also missing Achilles, a card with 1000 ships, Perseus' bronze-plated shield, the Spartoi (a dragon that makes soldiers when it dies!).
I know that they had tried to make Persephone and Herakles... maybe these cards were pushed to a future 'Return to Theros' block.
I agree that this set will have even MORE of an emphasis on enchantments and less on the Monsters and Heros.
What would I like to see? Some cool global enchantments.
More creative uses of enchantment creatures, or some cool synergistic enablers to work with them in particular.
More cool Ashiok action depicted on spells and an answer to what she is up to (I miss the comics so much, they were perfect for handling these cool stories..shrug)
EDIT: more camels. did you know there are only two camels in magic? seems criminal!
Man, I hope we do a desert world or remake of arabian nights in some fashion so I can get some cool camels
The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.

but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.

Born of the Gods only had a few reprints: Divination, Eternity Snare, Necrobite, Revoke Existence, Springleaf Drum. I'm expecting to see the sane number (5) in JIN since it's also a small set. It's had to tell what will be reprinted because the reprints are mostly neutral and serve for Limited. That said, Cursebreak, Wildsize and Swelter would be cool.
- Do you think they will try to remake any cards for Journey into Nyx? For example, a lot of people have been speculating about a colorless Academy Ruins for enchantments. I could see this as a possibility, especially since enchantments are a huge part of Theros.

Yes, as a W/G Planeswalker.

Yup, one of each is my guess
