as long as its not a FNM player that magicly fall into the Mtg multivers and use his card knowledge to defeat Nicol Bolas, I'm ok. (I truly fear this though)
It won't be for above stated reasons, the primary of which is that: They want a franchise to rival LotR and the Harry Potter movies.
Also, they guy they hired to write and produce the movie is effectively a cash cow, even his worst movie (X:Men the Last Stand, which was butchered by the demands of some of its stars, and one of them walking out halfway through filming...) was still a hugely successful movie (Seriously, of the original X-men Trilogy, it was the most profitable, making over 400 million in US theaters alone).

Well, since the movie company wants to start a franchise, and they've chosen a writer/producer that has the golden touch (in that, everything he is involved in tends to become a success), it will probably be pretty good.
What it is going to be: A good high fantasy movie, following the ascent of a neo-walker that gets involved in a world saving adventure. Expect cameos of existing characters, and the establishment of a recurring villain. It will probably start on either Dominaria or Alara (Bant) as they are the primary high fantasy settings of MTG. Although it will start on a familiar plane, expect the main character to travel to another plane within the first 30 minutes of the film, and the majority of the action take place on the second plane.
What it is *not* going to be: Brothers War, Eldrazi, Ravnica, Kamigawa, Mirrodin, New Phyrexia, Old Phyrexia, Theros, Innistrad, Rabiah, Old Walkers, a Dungeons and Dragons rehash, set in the real world in even a minor capacity, Lorwyn/Shadowmoor, the return of Urza or Yawgmoth, or killing of a major villain such as Nicol Bolas.

I'm betting on some kind of fantasy adventure involving the Lorwyn five, mostly told from Jace's POV. First movie villain is Tezzeret, and the post-credits will tease Nicol Bolas. The most WTF plot I can think of is a three-stooges style fantasy comedy featuring the multi-planar hijinks of Timmy, Johnny and Spike.

Tying the Lorwyn Five to the movie franchise is unlikely for a number of reasons, for one, several of them don't even know each other, and one of them is a *Villain* (Yes, Lili is a villain, get over it). Not to mention that tying them to the movie franchise would preclude WotC from using them in sets, which is something they are unlikely to allow. That said, it is quite likely that several already existing planeswalkers, including any of the Lorwyn 5, will make minor appearances in the movie, but they are unlikely to have a major influence. It is far more likely that the movie will revolve around new characters.

I hear ya on all those reasons, but in one of MaRo's podcasts he specifically mentioned that past movie deals did not push through because they had no "Mickey Mouse" -> an iconic main character that the movie can be built around. They created Jace partially so he could be their "Mickey". So assuming that's still true, and Jace really will be the centerpiece of the movie, the rest of the Lorwyn five would have to be there too.

I highly doubt that Jace will be a central character in the movie due to his prominence in the sets (And that he is a base breaker).

Direct quote from MaRo's podcast:
Oh, let me explain this, this is another—a lot of things going on at once is, so we for a long time have been trying to go to Hollywood and say, “Hey, let’s make a Magic movie.” And one of the problems we always would get from them is “Well, who’s your Mickey Mouse? Who is your most identifiable character?
And then in Worldwake we’re like “Well, let’s start with Jace,” because Jace was our Mickey Mouse essentially.
I can't imagine the movie having a bunch of characters with meaningful roles that aren't important in the game. Why would they make a Magic movie with plot/setting/story/characters/etc detached from the source material. That is like Marvel making movies about characters not in the comics or making Harry Potter movies without Harry Potter.
I think this is the best scenario for a movie about Magic.
Probably the movie is going to be based around the following set after Theros, no matter if it is Zendikar again or another old plane; the thing is that as some people say is a good focus point to gain interest from new players as for the old ones. I srsly hope the movie is about Planeswalkers joining together and fighting each other instead of just some guys dueling "yugioh" style.
Very probably they even cut the ending so the players don't know how the set is going to finish, because if the movie was released in 2015 it would depict the beggining and developtment of the story, as for if it is shown in 2016 it could explain the whole set in a single picture and reveal the true ending (thing that rarely happens in Magic sets).
I'm also looking forward to see classic cards that everyone can identify like naturalize , doom blade or token summoning (guys or beasts appearing out of the nowhere)

Yes, but that means very little in the grand scheme of things. After all, every Disney™ movie is not centered around said Mouse, heck, none of their feature films do. He had a minor role in *one* feature film. Emphasis on minor, and that was in 1940.
Also, this time it was not WotC that was trying to get an M:TG movie off the ground, but rather a movie company contacting them wanting to build a franchise with their IP.
It is most likely that the movie will star new characters, with cameos/minor role inclusions of already established characters such as Jace, Gideon, Chandra, et.al. Much like was done with the comics.

This is not how bans/unbans work. Its always the enabler that gets the ban, not the card that is being abused. If you would have Yawgmoths will + whatever cards - it would be Yawgs that would be banned. If you would have Stoneforge and batterskull - it would be stone who would be banned and that is exactly how it works. Furthermore, banning a card in order to unban a different card is a thought process that was and wont be never applied in practical means.
The logical thing to do is for the movie guys to make their own story about the neowalkers and for Magic R&D to build a set around the movie. That way newer players can be introduced to the game right where the movie leaves off, and older players can be happy watching a new set unfold on screen.
This is exactly what I think will happen. Depending on the production time frame, this movie could come in time as an early summer blockbuster to build hype for M17 and the "Lock" block (whatever that will be) which - coincidentally? - is also the end of the 2nd 6/7 year plan MaRo has talked about. It's just the kind of synergy that Hasbro is trying to create amongst ALL its franchises (Transformers? TMNT?). The worst part of it all: it will more than likely be directed by Michael Bay...

Nah, he's busy with the TF and TMNT franchises (unless the latter ends up a flop, in which case he'll be kicked off it. And considering the success (or lack thereof) concerning earlier TMNT movies.... Heck, even the good ones tend to be flops on the big screen...)
Anyway, considering who they have tapped for scriptwriting duties, there is a very good chance that the M:TG movie will be a huge success (seriously everything he touches turns to gold).

Who, Simon Kinberg? I don't know, that guy is credited with Mr. and Mrs. Smith and the past two X-Men movies... Yeah, great examples. I like a little more storyline than, "here's two people/groups of people that don't get along for some convoluted reason. They have an epic battle that causes seizures in epileptics and the elderly." I mean, I know we are in the age of the soundbyte but I think a story with as much rich history as M:tG deserves a little better but I don't know enough about the biz to say who.

X-men: The Last Stand got screwed over by the demands of certain of its stars (*cough* Halle Berry *cough*) and that one star walked out a third of the way through filming for a bit part in the Superman movie filmed at the same time, and yet it still out-performed the two previous installments combined. Not one of the movies he has written the script for has been anything other than an economic success. And that is the primary reason why he was chosen to do the script. Fox wants a franchise, and they want it badly, as such they have picked the one writer they have access to that has made nothing but successes during his career, and they will likely use the same criteria for the director and producer(s). Also, WotC *is* involved in the process from start to finish, so we won't get a cinematic abortion like the Dragonball Z and Avatar: The Last Airbender movies.
And no, "The Real World", I.e. Earth will not be involved at all.

- A chain of meet-and-greets to expose the audience to the main planeswalkers and planes. Gathered walkers to fight big baddie (Bolas for sure).
- A focus on just a couple characters, with hints of the others (Zendikar 1.0 story).
The former is a weaker film, but more 'entertaining', since eye-candy is what sells these days. I'll tolerate this kind of film if they choose good characters to introduce.
The only way I see this connecting to the game is if the film recaps the block that just finished, or is the prologue to the block starting. For example, Zen 1.0 the summer before Zen 2.0 begins. With a return, there's less mystery, so a film spilling the beans isn't so bad. Likewise, getting a film that recaps Theros block this summer would have been pretty cool, if the trailer was out by now.
Well, that's the beauty of movies: it's so easy for everyone involved to point fingers in some bizarre cat's cradle. Not everyone does, but I guess if you measure cinematic success purely in dollars, then you could count those movies successful. I know that I'll be sad if the rich and vibrant stories Magic has been capable of telling (not always superbly) ends up as just more canned ham.
I'm pretty sure the long aim is a trilogy since they know they have guaranteed income with something as simple as a promo card with each ticket. As for sticking to the story/block structure, I know they have been working very hard on timing lately which is why we see such delays as book releases and new block announcements. This could be in preparation for some serious messaging blitzes in coming years.
