Fanatic dies damage to a player, Skred (and this "Shred") to a creature, so there us no overlap :>
Instant is fine. Even at instant, it's still worse than Flame Slash, which didn't tear anything up.

Having a pressing creature threat is something every deck do in modern and in standard. Even control in standard have to tap out to play threats.
I am getting a little sick of every set having a "variation" spell on a previous staple. Is Lightning Bolt too powerful a staple? Then stop printing it and replace it with a new staple.
But don't reinvent the wheel twice a year to keep bringing us new variations on a watered down former-staple. It gets old.
My guess is nothing since two card similar to "lightning strike" at the same time would be a little crazy (but remember the days when Standard had both Incinerate AND Lightning Bolt?)
I'm actually thinking maybe Lightning Bolt was too powerful for Theros limited which got us Lightning Strike. Afterall, instant removal gets even better when you have an aura heavy format like it or ROE. You want your themes to at least not suck in limited.

You play Nacatl, i let it stay because it doesn't matter, this is the same deal. but definitely 1 mana, definitely 3 damage, and definitely a new name

Modern BURN needs another 1 CMC 3 damage like Lava Spike in RED, no more 2 CMC 3 damage, Incinerate is better than Searing Blaze/Lightning Strike, both dont see play in Modern

I want there to be a lot of cool things in this set just because they redesigned the borders and a bunch of things. That makes me want to believe they'll put a bunch of cool cards in this set, but that's not any real support to say that they will.
I think a Sorcery Speed Lightning Bolt would be pretty cool. Chances are they'll never print it because wizards is afraid of everything. My vote is Searing Spear could come back just so we could have lightning strike and searing spear in the same standard for awhile, which would be cool.

It costs 7 mana. And at that rate, 3 damage is a pittance. I'd just as soon run Think Twice and Lightning Bolt together.

That seems quite poor compared to Blazing Salvo.
How is that too strong? In Standard right now, we have Thoughtseize, Pack Rat, Nightveil Specter, Lifebane Zombie, Desecration Demo, Gray Merchant of Aspohel, not to mention a ton of decent removal. If anything, having access to all those cards at once in Standard is too strong.
