So I for one am excited that they're making five new commander decks. The original five were amazing and such a wonderful way of getting ayers to join the fun. The cards wizards introduced were also really great, and the decks themselves were powerful enough to stand their own, contained good cards, co themes, came at a reasonable price, and were sold at most retail stores.
We know these decks will follow suit, and that's a good thing.
What I'd like to start here is some speculation on what the themes of the five decks will be. So far, we know that they're shards color slices, opposite of the wedges last time. We also know a few more details, such as two of the Commanders. With just this tad bit of information, we can start speculating on quite a bit!
Here are some of my thoughts:
Jund Deck B/R/G
Prossh, Skyraider of Kher
- He's a big flying dragon that is also a sac outlet and a token maker. In assuming the Jund deck will play similar to Kresh, the Bloodbraided Edh decks that are current, featuring big creatures, sacrificing, heavy destruction, and a lot of firepower. I'm guessing we will see a lot of tokens too.
Grixis Deck R/B/U
Scourge of Nephalia
- She focuses on spellcraft, and so in predicting a lot of instants an sorceries, likely ones that hit a variety of targets or do a lot of big things. I suspect graveyard recursion to keep your few but strong creatures present, and the a ton of good spells to back them up. Grixis control, anyone?
Bant Deck U/W/G
???
- Bant was all about Angels, knights, and creatures fighting together as one. I could also see an Aura/Enchantment theme going on here, which would really play well with the Voltron Bant style decks in EdH. I wouldn't be surprised to see cards like Rafiq and Eldrazi Conscription.
Naya Deck R/G/W
???
- Lands and Creatures. Tons of them. Big, huge, fatties that tramplestomp their way through the finish line. It's hard to picture the commanders, but I could imagine them being big, or focusing on casting big creatures for a finale. Lands would probably also play a role, and there would likely be ramp cards involved.
Esper Deck W/U/B
???
- The inner Tezzeret in me would like to believe that the Esper colored deck would have an artifact/control theme, but that's uncertain. If not, Auras and enchantments could fit here too. However. I think artifacts would make for a really fun deck: assemble machines and contraptions and then have all these machines working together in some crazy combo control deck. Sharuum, Sen Triplets, Open the Vaults... I could see it.
Overall Thoughts - I suspect we will get a commander for each deck that had an ability that activates, varying on how much you spent to cast that commander card. That seems like a given. The rest are a little bit of a mystery. I hope te rest of tr legendary creatures stray from that cycle, just so we can see some variance in the set.
Now, those are my first thoughts. I'd like to know what you all think. Discuss!
Well two dragons for the RBG deck if we get the invasion dragons. Thought its difficult to not see them mirroring the Invasion dragons off of the PLC dragons from the last release. they seemed to be fine with reprinting the PLC dragons instead of make all the wedge generals new. Wizards isn't going to skip out on saving an idea for a later product that's a sure seller. Like an Esper plane card for the next Planechase product.
I don't think will see the Triplets in the WUB deck since Jeleva dose something similar. And unless the WUG deck is exalted themed Rafiq wont be a general in it. Mayel and Sedris are 50/50 since they can still work enough without the deck being focused on their abilities. Kresh synergizes very well with Prossh, kobolds aside.

WOut of the ground,I rise to grace...W BAfter the lights go out on you, after your worthless life is through. I will remember how you scream...B
Like I said, it's still early to make decisions about some of the cards, but I think Kresh, Mayel, Rafiq, and the others would be really cool inclusions over the old dragons, although I'm not sure if they'd do it. They could still be in the decks though. I really want to see Hellkite Overlord in the Jund deck, just because its my favorite dragon. It doesn't do much from a combo perspective, but it sums up Jund and would be a fun finisher. I expect to see the Shards of Alara Charms, Lands, Obelisks, among others.
So now that we are getting close to spoilers, I think it's time to really start guessing what themes we will see, reprints, etc.
We will be getting the Invasion dragons. Without a doubt.
We will likely also get the Alara Tri-lands.
As for the common color fixers, I think they'll go with the Gates over the Ravnica Karoo lands this time around, just for the sake of variation.
As for the mana artifact that will appear in each deck, I'd say there is a 50/50 chance that we will get Sol Ring again. It is a staple of commander decks after all.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).

I can agree with this. I'm also hoping to see Command Tower return as well! I want to see an artifact theme for Esper and a small enchantment theme for Bant, but I'm uncertain as to how "Alarian" these decks are.
The two spoiled legendaries are from Innistrad and Kher Keep, so it's safe to assume we'll get some legendaries from various planes in the multiverse. I'd say it's almost a lock that we get an esper legendary from Mirrodin / New Phrenxia.
An Esper legendary? From Mirrodin or New Phyrexia? Would they be a Phyrexian? Scary! I think that the Bant one will be from Bant or Theros, while the Naya one could be from Zendikar. Interesting ideas!
I'm super excited for the Jund deck. I've been meaning to get around to building a Kresh deck for a while now and, from the looks of Prossh, I expect the deck to follow a similar sac creatures theme with things like the following, Falkenrath Aristocrat, Blood Artist, Gravepact, Nether Traitor, Mogg War Marshall, Creakwood Liege, various devour creatures, maybe a Jinxed Idol for fun, and so on and so forth. Should be a good time...

Maybe the Naya newbie commander will be something along the lines of:

You may play an additional land during each of your turns.
In the same way you can tell someone is from the XVIII century because he is arroused by ankles, you can tell someone is from USA because he feels nipples disturbing.

I figure they'll go Esper artifacts as well. Do you think they would include any infinite/instant win combos? I can't recall if the original Commander decks had any. It doesn't seem like something they would do since a lot of people consider such things unfun. There are still tons of fun little, machine-like interactions though. I actually like that Wizards kept the original decks somewhat powerful and competitive but not bonkers.
On different note...what's Grixsis going to look like? Maybe multi-mill with a side of reanimator? Perhaps creature/spell stealing? Things like swerve, control magic, animate dead and threaten.
I would like to see a Damnation reprint also, seeing as how I need one more for a play set.

I don't think they'd include infinite/instant win combos, but at least nifty repeatable effects. Just repeatable card advantage, like, for instance, Scourglass with Sharuum the Hegemon and Academy Ruins or something.
Also, I think Grixis will focus on stripping away your opponent's cards and using them to your advantage. It will probably include a lot of elements in basic control, like strong instants and sorceries, as well as powerful creatures that serve as your finishers. I'd expect to see Cruel Ultimatum and cards of similar design.

Mass release only dents the price, and often only for awhile. And the major factor in that is when the sets go out of print.
For example, guess how much a Commander Sol Ring goes for in comparison to when it was first released.

I don't doubt that! I'm just saying that it would be cool if it also sed artifacts. It could still be a control deck as well.
I'm just wondering when spoilers will begin. Anyone think next Monday?
For some reason I think we will see the old dragon charms and the shards charms, as well as maybe the shards ultimatums. I don't want everything to be cyclic, but the flavor and colors are spot on!
