isn't it confirmed there is only 3 rare lands maybe 4 now...so im hoping alara tri lands because that would be nice and no rare lands outside of utility maybe a mystifying maze variant.
or potentially some of the future sight non filter lands.
realistically i have no idea leaning towards utility lands being printed.
I still believe that cutting 5 basic land is yet possible, ain't it?
The most compelling argument against 10 duals in a core set is not finding room for it among the lands, but fitting 10 rare lands in a set that usually has 229 non-basic land cards. The last sets to have 10 duals are 9th/Xth with all ten painlands, but those sets had over 10 cards... I really don't know what to expect from M14, but I doubt it will be anything orther than 5 allied corelands/fastlands/onslaight fetches.
Edit - I meant "those sets had over 300 cards" not "10".

And you are going to be disappointed. It is unlikely we will be getting more than four rare lands, from what the Names and Number crunch is telling us, thus it is likely that M14's cycle of mana fixing lands are uncommon, if we even are getting a cycle. It could be possible that we will get a mana fixing land at each rarity, a rare land that taps for any color, an uncommon that comes into play tapped and filters mana into any color (or has a limited number of uses), and a common that fetches (Evolving Wilds). In addition to such a trio, we would likely get a common mana artifact as well (Manalith)

Is it 100% confirmed that we are not getting at least 5 rare lands? Because, if that is so, I am 100% sure that we will get Sunpetal Grove and co. back, downgraded to Uncommon. Which doesn't disappoint me at all
Or the Shards of Alara trilands, but that pushes 5 trios (the shards) and punishes the other 5, and we are in Ravnica standard. I don't think half of the 3-guild combinations should have better manafixing than the other five.

As for the Tri-Lands: Each of the Trilands support three color pairs (for example, Crumbling Necropolis supports Rakdos, Dimir, and Izzet). This alone makes them good candidates for the current Meta.
However, i find it far more likely that we will get 1 5C land at rare, one at uncommon, and Evolving Wilds at common. Coupled with a common artifact mana fixer in the vein of Manalith or Armillary Sphere

Why is a core set a beginner set? That's such a foolish idea. I'm a very recent player to paper magic and before I bought any cards I did my research and found out what made sense to buy. Shortly after getting a core deckbuilder thing, I picked a deck and bought singles to build it. I also only bought boosters with the longest stint in standard rotation.
When I was actually new to magic, I played duels which is infinitely better than buying random packs of a core set lol. Duels teaches you the rules and how to actually play the game and then you can buy into a format. Any other new players I've ever seen at FNM play in a draft or two so that they don't have to buy a full deck but actually get play out of their booster packs. Shortly after that they learn the real value of individual cards like dual lands.
Honestly, experienced players are where money is made. Core sets are not how you create experienced players, duels is. Wizards really needs to change the mentality because the resurgence magic has had over the last couple years is really attributed to the success of duels bringing in new players who actually have half a clue about magic.
Sorry for the rant but it just really bothers me if they use the "new players" excuse to make weaker core sets. If new players don't understand the value of something, they just ignore it and play Shivan Dragon the same way experienced players ignore vanilla 6/4 wurms.

You might be right about duels being the thing that bring more people to magic but that can also not be reflected in wizards market research. What applied might not apply to the majority.
I'm not ok with them printing dumbed down sets for core sets but that has been going on for a while and they seem to believe it is for the best. The sad parr is that expansion sets became much more creature centri in the last year and that wouldn't have been that bad if they would have at least done something to help the limited formats(GTC was so fast that some games were lost by missing a land drop for one turn or by being on the draw)
Still, this topic is about dual lands for m14 and the whole idea was that a set with no multicolor cards whatsoever does not good efficient mana fixing at common/uncommon because people will still play two color decks.
Core sets have always had a dual role. They are a good starting point for magic players(as duels is) and they tie together sets by giving standard enough juice to be a better format. The lack of a core set in block constructed is easily observed. This secondary purpose is important for experienced players also. Even some of the old guys in the game love to see the spicy reprints of a core set and even the new toys they bring. Also, 5 planeswalkers are a lot and everybody loves planeswalkers(maybe not, but still)
I'm not down and out on core sets, I love them. I just want to actually see playable stuff rather than 75 giant spiders/bears/craw wurms.
Players like the current land situation. I don't know that they are going to restrict it very much as long as 3-color decks are the maximum variation for most decks. I could see the mirrodin lands being reprinted (or enemy colors being printed)
I honestly like the lands currently in standard. I think that the current set up 10 shocks + 10 taplands is the best mana base standard has ever had. What I think they should do is reprint all the 10 taplands (5 from m13 + 5 from innistrad) in m14. This would be really awesome to see, but this doesn't look like the case =/.

especially since they said this week they are not printing a cycle in m14, and just about said flat out there will be a cycle of 10 duals of some type in theros block, both to help the mana for the next block format, and more or less repeating the fact that the allied checklands were ONLY reprinted in m13 because they work so well with the shocklands and to be 'fair' to all of the guilds so that every guild would have access to 12 duals for standard
I love how duals are just expected now. Back in my day, we were lucky if 1 in 3 blocks had playable duals.
Honestly, I think good duals need a break from standard. Make 1 and 2 color decks return to standard. Running Basics feels like a punishment for some reason now.
I've heard from a "moderately" reputable source that the Theros duals are going to be Legendary alpha lands. It would make sense, to an extent, but still seems a bit outlandish. Has anyone else heard of this?
