an interesting thing they could do is a cycle of legendary iconic creature from the magic past, like squee and teferi, showing through cards what happened them from the last time we have seen them
How about "You may discard your hand, pay 5 life, rip this card, remove 3 digits from any number of target fingers you control, and concede at the end of the next end step rather than pay It Will Go Through!!'s mana cost.
Serious question though, why does wotc need to do anything?
I believe that WotC should do something to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of Magic: the Gathering because they are the company that prints the game, and thus have the legal right to print new cards or reprint existing cards. Additionally, commemorating this anniversary would be a great opportunity for them to promote the game and also make greater monetary profits, while giving their players something special, as well. In my mind, celebrating the twentieth anniversary of this game would be a win-win situation for all people involved with it: both the players and the makers.

Why wouldn't that be close to the limits of Bolas's power? He isn't even that great anymore- he even got beat by a normal Ajani and his bones crack as he moves them because of severe old age.
We're talking about old walkers. Even just a tiny portion of an old walker on a card would be:
10000cmc
+0: Destroy all creatures
-0: All opponents discard their hands
-0: Win the game
Loyalty: 1
...and a full version would be like:
100000000000000cmc
+0: Remove the plane, everyone loses
-0: Create a plane, start a new game in any way you like
-0: Legally rip up all your friend's decks
Loyalty: 1
I would love Urza, Yawgmoth, etc. but they would have to think of something else rather than just putting them on cards (such as a pretend "if" they came back as a neowalker scenario)... planeswalker OR creature. I bet these days if they had an old walker like Bolas as a creature it couldn't be a 7/7 get an opponent to discard a card on hit, it would have to be a 1000/1000 shroud indestructible protection from everything.
I'm not sure why you're focused on the part of my post that talked about Bolas being an Oldwalker and skipped the part about how Lilliana and Sorin are also both confirmed oldwalkers.
I don't understand why people speak about the oldwalkers as if their very presence would warp the land around them. Yes they were very powerful but they were also very capable of suppressing that power. Karn has a very game changing effect but unless you are focused on it it's not "win the game". Venser has a powerful ability but unless you build around it it's far from game breaking.
If we haven't even seen the boundaries of a walker like Ajaini, who's to say that a balanced oldwalker couldn't be printed?

Jeska was red, with a little bit of black. But she doesn't have as much story prominence outside of her role as Phage and Karona. Her only documented acts as a Planeswalker are depicted in the Future Sight novel. That being said, "what if" planeswalkers is indeed a delicious idea and I recall an Ask Wizards post saying that the option isn't off the table.
M14 should be a Homelands reprint. That would be epic!
You're one sick puppy. I still have some Homelands cards, and every time I see them I get a little depressed.
They're not going to reprint anything off the wall, because they're actually trying to nurse a new eternal format: Modern. They're not going to open up Modern to Swords to Plowshares, Dark Ritual, or Counterspell.
I do think they'll do something special for it; perhaps a foil in every pack?
I thought Kamahl's sister Jeska is a planeswalker.. after her spark ignited.
She became part of Karona. When Karona was destroyed she became a Planeswalker and pupil of Karn. She died fixing the last time rift and bringen about the Mending.

A balanced old-walker could be printed, but if it were urza(Note...Yawgmoth was not a planeswalker even though some of you may think he was...) it wouldn't be very true to the story in that while Sorin/Liliana are Old-walkers and have been printed, they were alive after the shift from true Old-Walker (All powerful nearly god planeswalkers, also note this change happened during the mending for those of you who wish to look it up.) to neowalkers (the ones we have now which are still powerful, but where they have limits) and as such their power was GREATTTTTLY lessened. As would Urza's be IF he were still alive, but he is not, therefore any card printed of him would have to reflect the walker that he was when he was actually alive (Before the power shift...when they were god-like/Immortal) which in my opinion is not possible on a real card due to game balancing issues.
Have a helicopter drop you off out front. Light your cigar with a small Indonesian boy holding a black lotus. Then bust out a craw wurm deck with no sleeves. Raw dog shuffle, loose terribly, flip the table, leave in a hovercraft.

They could still print a powered version of an oldwalker, but make the mana cost so prohibitive that he would only be EDH-viable.

"De potentia juvenis somniabat, nunc de Mundo somniat..."
It would be really hard to capture Urza as a planeswalker card, but they did a great job with Karn and Bolas, so maybe it's possible. I agree that he wouldn't be meant for competitive play.
Last core set, they threw in cards that 'belonged' to a specific plane. What if the next core set is entirely that? A mish mash of references to older settings? In the last 10 years, we've visited 8 different planes, including Dominaria. Would be a way to 'celebrate' magic via the worlds that have been created.
New card face
The set will have a card from each set
What else
Ah whatever, basically what they did for the 10th anniversary lol.
Nah, just messin with ya, but I like the idea of the visit every single plane thing. The should probably give it the alpha vibe again, rather than disentomb, they print raise dead, and other cards that "magically" went away with the big M10 change.
I don't think they are going to do a straight up nostalgia block like Time Spiral. Especially not right after a vaguely nostalgic block like R2R and even SOM wasn't that long ago, which was another "revisit nostalgic-esque" block.
Time Spiral (while one of my favorite all time blocks...) was so "out there" that new players just had a rough time connecting with it. When every card is a reference to something old and you're just getting in the game, and you have to ask each reference or try to understand so many mechanics it just wasn't fun. The only thing I can really remember so much about Time Spiral was people forgetting Echo costs, what "morph" did, how Madness worked, and what exactly is "Shadow"? (and all of this was at the Time Spiral prerelease.) I knew a lot of "newer" players at that time and they just had a hard time with all the mechanics, they might as well have been new to them. A few of my friends and I had a great time because we remember all the mechanics and playing with all those cards. Not everyone had that experience with TSP block.

I just want people who redraft to admit this:
"I can't draft objectively unless I am able to guarantee that I receive at least 3 rares. I am also better than most average/new players so I want to make sure that I get the best rares and they end up with worse ones. I care more about the monetary value of cards than actually playing the game for decent prizes."

M14 will end up being Fifteenth Edition. They'll switch to the Future Sight card frame. Urza, Serra, and Avacyn will be printed as planeswalkers. They'll go back to white borders for Core Sets, and reprint 8ED-14E with them. We'll see a third Unset, perhaps called Unscrewed.
An extra big tournament, creative writing assignment and white borders... pretty underwhelming. I could see either Tarmogoyf or Force of Will reprinted in a core set at mythic to go along with a 20th anniversary sealed tournament and some kind of retrospective on their website. Not too much more.

There are 10 types of people in this world, those that understand binary and those that don't.
This seems likely to me, for one. Even ones that already existed with progression. Venser, Shaper Savant + Venser, the Sojourner, Kamahl, pit fighter + Kamahl, Fist of Krosa etc.

Being an Oldwalker doesn't mean anything anymore since the Mending. All walker are on the same page now. Except Bolas.
