I was wondering if anyone has heard anything verifiable about M14 lands. Specifically, people at my LGS were stating (as if fact) that M14 will not include the "duals" that have been a part of the core set since M10. Is there any known fact to substantiate this, or were these folks just blowing smoke? I've tried searching the topic and found no commentary...I am at this point assuming that if there were any fact behind this that it would be featuring prominently in the forum.
Nothing on Google. I'd ask them where they get their info.
I found nothing searching the Net either...I never got a chance to grill the guys over it because I was in the middle of a match and then got distracted. Again, I assumed it was garbage to know such thing with certainty about M14 at this early date, but I just wanted to make sure it was they who must be smoking something funny and not I...;)
The only thing we know for certain about the contents of M14 is that Chandra is in it (probably, but not necessarily, with a new card). Anything else is speculation.

If checklands are leaving, it's because Innistrad duals are rotating out... probably makes it as good of a time as any. Who knows could replace it though... the old painlands? Seems weird to have two lands that damage you be main duals. Seems to me that they'd have to have a pretty good design to replace something as ubiquitous as checks.
Still, it's all speculation and completely unconfirmed at this point. This budget player likes having cheap duals in the format.
I really hope not, yes they're boring, but they work too well (in a good way) with Shocklands for wizards not to reprint them at least 1 more time with Shocks still legal. Maybe they leave with Innistrad tho and we get something else.
Maybe we get the Filter cycle (Fetid Heath, Cascade Bluffs), but the M10 duals are a perfect design, and absolutely belong in a core set.

who knows maybe the will print a set of all 10 combos of lands in a core set. i for one would love to see 10 duals in a core set. as far was what they do maybe they could be like the old school dual but they are effected by abilities that would affect either. so you cant fetch them out like you could with an Arid Mesa so search for a Badland
Maro said that he didn't like having to print the checks in m13, but since they synergised so well with the shocks he felt obligated to. I'm hoping that what gets printed in m14 isn't the allied fetch cycle, because having modern level mana in standard for 3 months isn't going to be fun.
They wouldn't do enemy colors in a core set unless they print all ten. Also I don't think fetches will be reprinted since core sets are for new palyers and new players don't like a useless land that just deals one damage to them. (Considering they don't hop directly into competitive play.)

Well whatever they are replaced with will eventually be cheap since they seem to keep them around for like 3-4 base sets these days. They may start out at a fairly high price but once the second and third reprints show up it will be down to the price of the M10 duals now easily.
This assumes they are talking a new set of duals that is in the M14.
Leaving out the M10 ally duals and putting in the ISD enemy duals would be an interesting shift for standard. It would allow the following large expansion to have some good ally duals for balance in standard. Then maybe drop the check lands entirely and replace with something else in M15.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them complete the Nimbus Maze cycle from Future Sight. It plays well with the shocks in Standard and presents as being close to the upside look of the Checklands (one of the reasons they don't like painlands anymore is because new players react negatively to having to lose life.)
I believe it was hinted at in an article that they almost dropped them this year, but kept them going for various reasons, implying something new in M14.
I vaguely remember reading something about them not reprinting the checklands again, but I don't see a reason for them to stop.
One reason would be that they have been printed in four core sets, so they are too commonplace and boring at this time; do you agree with that?
Also, I have been wondering this for quite some time, now: why do those cards not have flavor text? Their counterparts in Innistrad have flavor text, so I find it to be very odd that they do not have such text.

If anything, they may even print Odyssey filter lands.
What lands are those? And I hope that they do not, since I believe that any card that requires a player to spend mana to generate mana is not as useful as a card that can generate mana for no cost (i.e., I would use sol ring or gilded lotus over prophetic prism or any of the Ravnican guild signets).

They are not as versatile as the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor-era of filter lands, but they are much more basic and limited. This would make it more challenging for players running 3 color mana bases, and the allied color theme would compliment the Ravnica block, and possibly even hinting that the next expansion set will have the enemy colored Odyssey variant of these filter lands.
However, I wouldn't mind having the checklands reprinted. They've become a simple staple, and although others consider it boring, I consider it a convenience and an enabler for multicolored decks in standard. They're not bad, they're not broken, and if it ain't broke- dont fix it.
If the Ravnica Signets were legal, a lot of people would be playing them..all day, every day. Gilded Lotus is in a completely different ballpark than the signets simply because of the cost..and obviously you would use Sol Ring over them..you'd use it over a lot of things.
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.
M14 is MTG's 20th birthday (Serra Angel is legal now, and in College.) They'll want to do something special. Possible shocks, or some other awesome dual land. I only say shocks because they want modern to be affordable, they're already double printing them (Dragon's maze having all 10). I doubt it but its possible.
Also we've had checklands for quite some time now, its about time they rotated and we got new ones.

I really hope it's Zen fetches, those stupid things are as expensive as original fetches and in some cases as expensive as the cheaper original Duals. Seriously, when some of them in foil are more expensive than the Odyssey versions, it's a bad sign for Modern.
Granted, I don't care about Modern, but as a cube owner I'm much happier buying a foil Flooded Strand for 90 than I am buying a foil Misty Rainforest with that gaudy new frame.
I could see Zen Fetches reprinted in a core, but not M14 with the Rav Shocklands. In fact this Standard Environment has to be one of the most spoiled ones ever in regards to lands and Mana Fixing (Shards with Reflecting Pool and Vivid Lands is pretty close) but being able to play one Shockland tapped and the rest of your Checklands Untapped (in a 3 color deck) is incredibly spoiled. At least back in old Rav you would have to take a ping of damage to get the color fixing from Painlands.
