Boros Charm

  • #1
I would say the charms revealed so far would lead you to the conclusion that we will not see lightning helix reprinted. Most likely I would say a boros charm with similar effects but not both for the price of one. Third effect will probably stop a creature from blocking and/or attacking.

Please dont let this degenerate into any custom card creation. Posts deemed as so will be infracted

Could be something along the lines of attacking or blocking creatures getting some kind of bonus, maybe First Strike, similar to Selenya Charm's 'Lifelink to all' mode. But yeah... it's going to be a long wait for that one, buddy.

The third effect on these cards so far has been a color overlap related effect. For r/w, it'll probably involve first strike and a bonus, or doublestrike.

Ummm selesnya charm doesnt have a lifelink to all mode. It is in the spoiler, and it has 2/2 vigilant knight token, exile target creature with power 5 or more, and target creature gains +2+2 and trample til end of turn

The boros charm will likely deal with combat tricks, as the G/W one does. Red Green and White are very combat-trick oriented with spells. so I could see Boros getting power/first strike and maybe a pro-color mode?

Definitely combat tricks. I'm personally hoping for a Boros Fury-Shield type of effect. It could also conceivably (sp?) be a helix knock-off (which wouldn't upset me. always need more).

Ah, okay, whatever, you got me bro! .. I guess that's the Azorius Charm. Either way, it's the 'white' mode of a currently known charm. "All creatures you control get First Strike until end of turn" seems pretty strong and makes sense in a WR charm, especially considering the Boros are all about combat. But like I said, it's going to be a long wait. Gatecrash is to be released on Feb 1, 2013. That's the crazy thing about getting all this art and know-how about Gatecrash.. it's so far away! Slant

what do we have so far?

Selesnya: +2/+2 and trample, exile >5 power creature, 2/2 white knight with vigilance
Izzet: counter unless pay 2, deal 2 dmg to creature, loot 2
Azorius: creatures gain lifelink, draw a card, put attacking or blocking creature on top of library

I'd say Boros would be more combat oriented, so my guess would be; P/T pump plus first strike for target creature, deal damage to all blocking or attacking creatures, protection from a color of your choice
  • #11
if any were providing protection id have thought gw or uw. RW however doesnt seem very likely to me. I would agree on a first strike thing, as well as a blocking and attacking creatures kind of deal.

I wouldnt be surprised to see some sort of token creation either though like the knight token

Protection does kind of seem like a flavourful Boros ability though, even if not necessarily one you would associate with the combination of red and white in a vacuum. I reckon it'll be P/T + first strike, maybe a Raise the Alarm effect, and either protection or something to do with attackers or blockers as suggested.

However, we've got till Gatecrash before we find out.

    Life gain/direct damage/combat trick

I'm guessing artifact hate will be one of the features. Red, white and green have the most artifact hate, and with selesnya not having it I think boros might, though there's a good chance gruul will get it.

Other than that, I'm guessing give a creature double strike and maybe a mini helix that does 2 damage to a player and gains you 2 life.

I'm thinking a combat trick, some token ability, and destroy an artifact.

Perhaps... Deal 4 damage, Gain 4 life or Creatures you control get +2/+0 until end of turn. I think it would be something along the lines of Lightning Helix mixed with Rally the Righteous

I don't think that it would be similar than Helix. something like 3 dmg or 3 lifes? so.. paying 2 for 3 lifes?? not even a good idea.

Maybe something like.. +1/+0 haste, +1/+0 first strike (or holiday)and destroy target artifact or enchantment..

    really... i don't know...

The Izzet charm already does 2 damage to target creature, so having the Boros one do 3 to a creature isn't reasonable.

the existing charms that it follows suit on are
    Azorius
-Creatures you control gain lifelink until EOT - White ability (not blue)
-Draw a card - Blue ability (not white)
-put target attacking or blocking creature on top of its owner's library. (white/blue ability (hybrid))
    Izzet
-Counter target noncreature spell unless its controller pays 2 - Blue ability (not red)
-deals 2 damage to target creature - Red ability (not blue)
-draw two cards, then discard two cards (blue/red ability (hybrid))
    Selesnya
-Target creature gets +2/+2 and gains trample until EOT - Green ability (not white)
-exile target creature with power 5 or greater - White ability (not green)
-put a 2/2 white knight creature token with vig. onto the Battlefield (green/white (hybrid (while the token is white, vig is hybrid)))

So the Boros charm will have a red ability, a white ability, and a hybrid red/white ability.

Given that the white ability of Selesnya and Azorious don't match I would think it safe to say that the red ability won't do static damage to a creature, and if it does static damage (to a player) it will only do 2 damage.

I would presume that the charm will avoid being similar to Lightning Helix because of how terrible the comparison would look if it had "Choose one -- Do 3 damage to target player; gain 3 life; or Do 3 damage to target attacking or blocking creature."

No, I would bet Dollars to Donuts the spell avoids direct damage and life gain (though "Do 1 damage to each attacking creature" or "Do 1 damage to each blocking creature" would both be fair game). "Destroy target artifact; Destroy target enchantment; or do 1 damage to each blocking creature." seems much more palatable then a poor imitation of Lightning Helix.

Edit: I don't think the Boros charm will be a glorified Disenchant, just that those three options don't involve direct damage or life gain and fit the criteria, they are however not abilities that tie into the guild itself. They are used as examples, and are not intended to be the actual card.

(U/B) is :symbu: or :symub: and the same is true for the other 9 hybrid symbols with their two colors in for the last 2 leters of the code. ((2/B) and co are :sym2b: and (P/B) and co are :sympb:)
    Alternatively {UB}, {2B} or {PB} in taGSaRe[mana](B/U), (2/B) or (P/B)
Q is :symq: and T is :symtap: and Q or T will give Q and T in [mana] tags

I could see the Boros Charm being a mix of Trumpet Blast, Disenchant, and maybe a bolstered (3 damage?) Harm's Way. That could be pretty neat.

Boros charm just got previewed on SCG's the magic show.
I feel like its def one of the strongest charms:

    4 damage to a player;

    Or Permanents u control are indestructible this turn;

Or Target creature gains double strike uuntil eot

    Boros charm is bonkers.
  • #23
put that in RDW with the new shockland instead of searing spear.

Goes to the head more efficiently, and the indistructible thing makes you live to see another day when opponent verdicts you.

The double strike only to make a nice trade or go for the kill?
