I'm not sure if this is the correct forum -- so I thought I would just throw it in speculation here.
Going through the thread for the most recent fake card yesterday -- I saw that someone said that WoTC was going to print hate for Thragtusk
Now, I don't believe that it is necessary, but, I was just curious if someone had a direct link of them saying they are going to do so? Or was this just the hopes and wishes of another user here on MTGSalvation portrayed through them saying it was confirmed to happen?
Someone from R&D mentioned that there would be some kind of hate printed. I'm not sure what the answer will be though. I suppose that some kind of anti-life gain would be a great way to slow down Sphinx's Revelation and Thragtusk. Since Havoc Festival was just printed though, I wouldn't expect a card in GTC to do this. Boros and Gruul don't really feel like they would have any anti-life gain cards anyway.
I'd like to see a Rain of Gore reprinted in DGM I guess. It makes it so that Sphinx's Revelation, Thragtusk, and Centaur Healer become bad deals, and you might not even want to play them while Rain of Gore is on the battlefield.
Or maybe something like Humility, except instead of turning everything into 1/1s, they become 5/5s. That could be pretty awesome. Something like:
2GG
Enchantment
All creatures lose all abilities and are 5/5.
Or maybe something like:
2GR
Enchantment
All creatures are 3/3, gain haste, and lose all other abilities.
I don't know what they could print as a hate card specifically for Thragtusk since it has both an ETB and LTB effect. Some super cheap counter for creature spells is all I can foresee.

Voidslime was in Dissension....but I don't see them reprinting it outright. Maybe some kind of static effect that prevents Triggered Abilities from happening period? Seems like it could be a little too OP.
As far as anti-lifegain goes.... Orzhov might have something. I don't see that happening either. I think we may have to wait until DGM to see something real.

I don't think it would be too hard.
Something like,
You may play this spell for free if an opponent gained 5 or more life this turn. Destroy target creature, gain control of the next token creature to enter the battle field this turn.
Or a burn spell like.
R2
Instant
Do three damage to target creature or player. Players can't gain life this turn, tokens can't come into play this turn.
Or a conditional threaten effect where the creature is saced while you control it.
A 40 dollar mythic rare would constitute a must have 4 of that goes in many decks.
Stats About Mythics
-Mythics are on average 40% rarer than pre-mythic rares
(old blocks about 200 rares, Mythic blocks 35+ mythics)
-They are printing more new cards a year not less
(about 665 now vs. 630 in most pre-mythic block)
-To drop the value of a rare by $1 a mythic must go up $2
-In a 3 year time span deck prices doubled. I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause.

a "loses all abilities" + 3 damage burn effect would be nice.
Unfortunately...that seems like more of a U effect on the "loses all abilities" -- I don't think they would print a mono-R spell that would be on the effect of that....and that doesn't fit any kind of Gruul or Boros sounding spell.
The LTB effect al-beit good....maybe a functional reprint if not a reprint of Torpor Orb?
Or a 4 drop creature for Simic that's similar to Linvala, Keeper of Silence instead for ETB effects or Triggered Abilities (Triggered Abilities would be quite OP though....maybe the first Triggered Ability of each turn?)
a good anti lifegain spell like rain of gore would be the best solution. but they already printed havoc festival, which is horrible, but has this anti-lifegain effect, so i kinda dont think that they will print another anti-lifegain card.
also rain of gore would totaly destroy every controldeck which depends on sphinx revelation. so im not sure if it wouldnt be too strong of a counter. it would also completly destroy thragtusk. i mean, he is basiclly useless if you have rain of gore vs him. i would love to see my green opponents play thragtusk while i got rain of gore out. lose 5, good deal.
why should zealous conscripts or traitorous blood be hate for thragtusk? they are not stronger vs thragtusk than vs any other creature card, if you cant kill the tusk while he is on your side.
i wouldnt call it hate.
real hate for tusk would be a good anti lifegain card like rain of gore.

The Internet was a revelation to me, I never imagined there are so many idiots on this planet.
The -3/-3 sorcery could be worded as "until the end of turn, creatures you and your opponent control get -3/-3 (this effect remains constant through the turn)"
I think the colors that need tusk hate are U and B.
Basic discard can handle a tusk in a somewhat efficient way.
Dimir had a discard mechanic before.
I'm thinking it's gonna be a discard/mill effect that doesn't work all the time...
That would, in my opinion, make it even worse. It wouldn't be instant speed, and could be countered AND destroyed before it took effect, unless I'm missing something...
You could give the enchament flash or possible create and emblem like they do for planeswalkers but have it last until the end of your turn

~ deals 3 damage to target creature. A creature dealt damage this way loses all abilities until EOT.
Well done, it looks generally useful. I want this so bad. My first thought for Thrag hate was Humble. These don't negate the 5 life gain, but at least I won't have to use two cards to get rid of one creature.
Also, I bet Boros will get at least one creature with power 3 and first strike.

All creatures get -5/-5.
If a player would gain 5 or more life, that player exiles the top three cards of his or her library instead.
3 power first strikers are a much, much more elegant way of shutting down Thragtusk and turning it into a Angel's Mercy than weird wording. You could even push the power and make it cost just Boros and you'd have a (probably) constructed playable card to boot.

There will not be a permanent with "X loses all abilities." Maybe an instant or sorcery. Maybe even an ETB or LTB effect, but not a static effect. Why? Let Maro explain:
So what’s the problem with Humility? It’s also seen plenty of play and it has a cool effect. What’s wrong with it? Just a little problem called “the rules”. You see, there are certain things the game handles well. A lot of things actually. But there are also a few things that the game doesn’t handle that well. One of those things is cards with the phrase “loses all abilities”.
I would guess it will be a Flames of the Bloodhand variant. I'd like one that only targets creatures. Maybe:
Crushing Blow
2R
Instant
~ deals 3 damage to target creature. Until end of turn, if that creature's controller would gain life, that player gains no life instead.
It would be very gruul as they want a fast game. They are not known for life gain. That's more Selesnya, Boros, Orzhov, Golgari, Azorious, and maybe Simic (though I wouldn't as a designer).
*edit*
Though thinking on it for several seconds, I would love to see a mill spell ala False Cure:
Senility
BB
Instant (r)
Until end of turn, whenever a player gains life, that player puts that many cards from the top of his or her library into his or her graveyard.
Sometimes I feel like the word "interactivity" around here is akin to the word "electrolytes" in sports drinks. The public doesn't really know what it means, but they figure it's a good thing to have.

A static effect that takes away all abilities is too difficult of a ruling to explain. They won't get rid of Humility, but they won't recreate the headache again.
