If you have seen the new Commander set, you may notice something odd. Sliver Queen is in it. Even though it's on the Reserved List. What does this mean? Either special products can now break the List, or they are finally giving up on it. Or they just might be idiots, and forgot.

Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.

I for one welcome my new Functional Reserved List reprints, functional as drink coasters that is !
(no seriously what else should I do with oversized commanders that I dont even have the original card for)
Ah, but you can use the oversized card as your commander. You aren't required (in fact, you can't) to have the actual card in your 99 cards, and the oversized serves as the commander.

It SEEMS like Wizard's has been slowly trying to make more identical and functional reprints of card's on the list, slowly going from off color or changing mana cost and abilities slightly to flat out changing just a single line.
I'm sure (and fully realize) it's wishful thinking on my part but I'm really wondering and hoping. Anyone else noticing this thinking what I think? To me Fork/Reverberate don't have a lot of difference other than the changing the spell to red that Fork specifies......

If you ever go to a tournament you will also need a normal sized one if you are ever deck-checked.

What you desribe is no reprint, they did that for all time of magic.
Powerfull effects see reprints in new form, like we have a trillion time walk effects, a trillion draw 3 effects ala Ancestral Recall (just tons worse, but still worthy), and a ton of burn ala Lightning Bolt (Rift Bolt and all that stuff).
Thats nothing about reprinting what you say, its just fixing old cards, either as the wording was off or the card was too powerfull or too bad.
Thats totally fine, and it does not hurt the old cards, which are mostly more powerfull than its reprinted version.
Sliver Queen however is iconic as its the first 5 color card and actual a pretty decent one with the sliver brand that makes the card overall more magic history, cool and playable.
I would have killed for a foil old-school artwork one in the Sliver Box, but they didnt and that was the biggest chance they had.
@mozerdozer: There are sanctioned EDH tournaments?
In any case, I think its cool that they included Sliver Queen as an oversized. She's a very popular Sliver general and this gets her past the reserved list rulings.
Hmmm so all you need to do is get an entire 60 card deck of over-sized cards, housed in over-sized sleeves and..... Voila! Functional Sliver Queen reprint!
The Special Purpose Reprints section of the reserved list specifically allows oversized reprints, since you can't use them in tournaments, so they are not worth as much. There are already oversized versions of lots of old, expensive cards, so Sliver Queen is not unusual.

The only good thing about this post is the edible chocolate roaches they gave out! Mmm mmm!

Wait a minute, edible roaches don't crawl! EDIBLE ROACHES DON'T CRAWL!
I'm starting a business that sells oversized sleeves just for this purpose.
[Not really - but it would be amusing if oversized variants and normals were allowed if you had all oversized sleeves - anyone know that ruling? Would imagine there isn't one since all sleeves technically oversize your cards already (just not to the same level)]

Are these the same size as Planes and Schemes? Because they do make sleeves for those.
Do people really use the oversized cards? I don't mean collect them (I can at least understand that), but actually use them in gameplay?
No one I know uses them. They all used them for the release day tournament held at my LGS for Commander, but since then no one has bothered.
They are particularly awkward, because even if you have a sleeve for them, they don't fit in normal deck boxes, or long card boxes. Transportation of oversized cards just isn't very compatible with most current methods of carrying normal sized cards.
Going to FNM, I have a long box for my cube, and a smaller box that holds cube basics and an EDH deck. I'm not sure where I'm supposed to be fitting a giant oversized card.
I seem to remember some wizards article or something where someone played a game with an oversized deck.
Yeah, I remember that article! They did a draft with oversized cards and the winner got a single digit DCI number. Naturally, the guy who drafted Chaos Orb won.

I completely get how they remake/reprint cards all the time, whether functional or simply tweaked.
My point is that a 1RIncinerate or a Searing Spear may both do three damage and may each be the same spell tweaked, but Incinerate isn't on the Reserved list.
However a RRFork or a Reverberate that each are Instant's that both change the target of any spell, they are both ALMOST functional reprints of the same spell minus the 'change the spell to red' clause on Fork. So close that it's really hypocritical to claim that it doesn't violate the reprint policy. I mean, if that's all it takes to get around it, why even have such policies on paper?
Like I said in my original post, I'm hoping (and questioning) whether WOTC is just testing water's to see if they can get away with making ALMOST identical reprints and get away with it if all it takes is to change a single word or two (which seems to be the case).
However, I know it's a pipe dream, but I'm hoping beyond hope that it's true, though I know that the list is here to stay unfourtantely, which is a shame considering they are killing entire format's that most people would LOVE to get into but can't because of it.

Surely if you are playing CMDR with friends and if it ends up in the deck you use a tips card with a sleeve then no one would be that fussed?
Usually, we don't have room for that oversized tomfoolery. Get yourself a real one and put it on the table.
