oh good, someone thought it was burning his hand... Makes sense for there to be a security spell that just lights anyone who isn't the caster on fire...
which makes me think he's stealing from Chandra... the OTHER planeswalker thief... (Granted, i see Chandra as an ordinary magician who goes around stealing other people's precious things.)
Name seems like he could be a Star Wars Bounty Hunter.
This. Or a smuggler.
And if you'll excuse me, i know which name i am going to be rushing to claim when The Old Republic comes out... and yeah, i think Luke's gunner on Hoth was named Dack... or something that sounded like it.
Also, yes. The Alt-art cover DOES look like what you would see on one of those... what's the term I've heard? Bodice-ripper romance novels. I'll pass.
Also: All it says is that it's an alternate-art playable card. This comic is slated to release in December, and Dark Ascension is set for the beginning of Feburary... so it's possible that it's a promo for Dark Ascension, given that it's roughly 2 months in advance and seems like a good time for wizards to release a preview card for us to grab, but there's an equal or greater chance that it's a reprint.
Calling it right now, the promo card is... Master Thief
Seriously, though. Whats the chance that they put a card that will actually get played in there?
What's with the spate of hot guy Planeswalkers lately? Venser, Gideon, this guy. Are they trying to compensate for the fanservice of Liliana, Chandra and Nissa?
Come to think about it a Planeswalking thief could probably make a pretty good and relatively safe living, especially with how limited planar travel is now. Just base yourself on Ravnica and never steal from there then go out stealing from other planes and returning to Ravnica to sell your loot where no one's the wiser. You could probably hook up with the IC to sell "your" stuff through a third party coving the trail even further.

So why is the guy looking directly into our eye's in the cover of the comic? Looks really creepy, if you ask me.
Because he's a terrible, terrible lover. Seriously, she must be under a spell for her to be loving on him like that, and not notice he's not returning ANY affection AND stealing her necklace... Which makes him all the more the jerk, because you could just use magic to steal the necklace and not force someone to love you.

I like the flavor of Dack. Obviously he's run afoul of magical traps or was even subjected to some sort of legal troubles. It would account for the red hand. Heck, maybe its a mark of his local thieves guild. Seems counterproductive to be a red handed thief though.
@Romance novel cover: it's not even close. There are two kinds of romance covers: ones with a couple and ones with just the guy. On couples covers they always look at each other and Dack is clearly not interested in the woman. Dack's overall demeanor fits a cover featuring only him, as he is looking towards the reader. I've been reading romances(to my everlasting embarrassment ) for 16 years and so I've seen my share of covers.
I think it's a really, really, REALLY inappropriate cover for a Magic comic! I mean think about it - someone who isn't familiar with the franchise is going to look at it and dismiss it as a trashy romance story.
I really don't know what they were thinking with this particular cover >_<.
I'm still gonna get it though just because it's Magic comics, but I worry greatly about the impression it's going to make on someone who doesn't already know the franchise =/.
This brings up the question: Which is worse, to be caught reading a Magic novel, or a romance novel?
C'mon, how about like a knight fighting a zombie or Jace punching a dragon or something?
Because Jace punching a dragon would be too amazing to depict in a standard visual medium. It would be too hilarious to see a now-notoriously-overpowered planeswalker fail at using magic to solve his problems and resort to physical engagement, especially when they're as scrawny as Jace. Garruk, I could see punching his problems. Jace? I bet Jace would never willingly stoop so low

Eh, I read the novels in public all the time :P. Maybe it's just me, but I don't consider that to be something to be embarassed about...well, unless it's written by Robert Wintermute. :S

I'm glad SOMEONE bloody well said it. It's obvious he's shooting a smug "check this out while I'm taking this lady's necklace" look at the camera, not the smoldering, staring into each other's eyes amore look. It's the suave rogue, not the intense lover.
Wow... "Dack Fayden"? Really? I guess we've got a new winner for the "Worst character name" category. Sorry, Nicol Bolas - your first name may be fitting for a little girl and your last name may mean "balls" in Spanish, but not even you can trump that.
Aaaah
Yeah, what a bad name. Ral Zarek wasn't fantasy enough, I suppose?

To be fair, Bolas is not an uncommon surname, and I'm fairly confident that there are people with the name "Nicole Bolas" in real life.
With that having been said, Dack Fayden does seem like an unusual name.

All in all, an interesting find. Something new to look forward to.
What's his catchphase? "Hey bad guys, get ready to suck some Dack!"
What a terrible, terrible name. I predict bad things for this comic if this is the quality of the writers imagination. Jeez, any randon online D&D name generaotr can do better than that.

It's such a generic sounding name. But names can grow on you if the character/story's good. I'm just going to wait and see.
