Over the past few years, we've seen a British Isles tribal block, then a allied-wedge color block, a land-centered block, a return to Mirrordin with it's artifacts and poison(?!), and now we're headed for some psuedo-Victorian graveyard horror block. Next stop, Ravnica, again.
Seriously, though, what sort of themes, sub-themes, mechanics, and flavors are you just sure we'll see in the next several years?
I figure we're about do for some Legends lovin', though I'm betting it I'll show up more like ISD's tribal, as a sub-theme. I figure Grandeur is key-word ability that has plenty of ripe design space, and it seemed like a mechanic plant back in Future Sight.
We'll see slivers again, though probably not in the first of the almost guaranteed 2-5 multi-color blocks we'll see in the next 5 years (Wizards can't keep their hands off gold design). With allies just rotating outta standard, it's a little early for slivers again, but I hope they don't take too long, as I think a lot of EDH/Prismatic players are waiting for a Sliver Queenesque planeswalker.
Enchantment based block is coming down the pipes... Enchantment permanents and Aura Swap are nigh!
You know, Enchantments would be a reasonable theme for the Ravnica return, since the dissolution of Guildpact takes away a lot of the multicolour justification and Ravnica the First had an Aura subtheme...
I would like there to be a greek-esque block with a nice legendary theme (y'know, greece and their heroes and demigods). Grandeur is a mechanic too solid and open to leave alone
Ravnica rumor aside, I'd like an enchantment/legend block done right the next set
Without the guildpact, I expect at least one of the guild-specific keyword abilities to make a comeback with less-skewed color distributions. Dredge would certainly demonstrate some of that interblock synergy we seem to always be hearing about, but I think Convoke and Replicate are a lot less broken and therefore probably more likely.
I'd sure like to see a wall-subtheme in Ravnica. That always bothered me the first time around. Here we were, in this city that comprised an entire plane, and there aren't any walls in the set. How do you have a city without walls?
Question. Where has it been confirmed that the next block is Ravnica? What's the proof?
Afaik, a return to Ravnica has not been officially confirmed; a couple anonymous "inside" sources told the mods, and the mods seem to feel like they're trustworthy (but certainly not 100%)

In the pudding, perhaps?!? Sorry, couldn't resist.

"Here only miracles. Here, only the rising of spirit. And yes, love if it was pertinent (which it was so often); and sometimes bloodletting. But never the prosaic, never the trivial. Here the man who brought the strangest tale was the most welcome. Here every excess was celebrated if it brought visions, and every vision analyzed for the hints it held to the nature of the Everlasting." - Clive Barker's Imajica
Ravnica's return could show anything since it was a block with 10 keyword abilities...
Also, they won't change Ravnica to a legends theme since it was one of their worst blocks. MaRo said himself he won't focus so heavily on legends anymore.
Also, since I just noticed... 1000+ Posts.... and it only took 7 years!! /relevance

I don't understand why everyone's so reluctant to believe this rumour. Is it just that we can't confirm it for ourselves? It's just to me, if an MTGS rumour mill mod has a source who says something (in fact, I understand there's more than one source saying the same thing), chances are good that it's true. Sure, it's not confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt, but I consider it fair evidence until better evidence says otherwise.

I'd argue the original Ravnica block had a legend sub-theme, what with 2 for every guild. At the least, it seemed like a legend-heavy block.

Well, we also had an anonymous "mod confirmed" source that Liliana was the 5-ability planeswalker...
Flavor
1) A lot of earth-cultures: greek, egyptian, norse, mayan (we got some in Alaran leonin, but we're bound to have more).
2) A piracy flavored plane.
3) A stone-age flavored plane.
4) A religion-centered plane.
Mechanical themes:
1) Enchantment is so awkward they never done it.
2) Hand-size matters
3) Size matters (mana cost for spells, P/T for creatures)
4) A focus on a specific tribe (remember Spirits in Kamigawa?)

Ravnica had a legendary subtheme, with each guild getting two legends.
Anyway, a legendary theme does not equate a legendary permanent overdose like was done in Kamigawa. Had the number of legends in Kamigawa been about half of what it was, the set would probably have been more well received. Much like Legends was.
A legendary theme for a future set should not be ruled out as long as WotC don't overdo it. For example, if only half of the rare creatures in the set where legends, then it wouldn't be bad.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
Dang it, WotC, where's my legend-themed, Greek flavored pirate block already!?

1) Symmetrical tribal effects are a no-go.
2) Sets are focusing more on instant recognizable flavor to non-MTGers... slivers ain't it.
3) Time Spiral featured slivers among other things, and sold very poorly.
Another "X" tribe at some point with the template "all X you control gain Y?" sure. But I just don't see it being slivers.
There are already enchantment permanents. They're called "enchantments" :-þ
Edit: in case it wasn't clear, I'm kidding of course. I know you meant enchantment creatures and the like (enchantment lands?)
Edit 2: ha, jinx
*Facedesk* Like "enchantment creature" or "enchantment land" super types.

Right. Okay then, I'll believe it when I see it.

*Buys a drink* Good get.

I don't think he said that an Egyptian theme is guaranteed... Just that he wants to do one.
(And the enchantment block question, from feedback week, was my question. So happy.)

Urza Block was enchantment based, not artifacts. And frankly I think they did a good job with that theme there.
