So, I was conversing with one of the local storeowners today about the success of the Commander decks, and he said that at a recent "vendor's fair," wizards stated that they would be releasing more decks in the very near future. His exact words were that they intended on releasing a new set of five decks every six months for a while. I was very skeptical at this point.
I've got nothing more to go on than his word. I personally don't believe, but it's not unfathomable considering the success of the product. I certainly wouldn't be unhappy if it did happen. This is just a rumor, and I was wondering if anyone else, vendor or otherwise can confirm any news they have heard about future releases for more products aimed exclusively at the Commander format.

I would love for this to be true, but at the same time I don't want it to be. I've already got two Commander decks and have three more in progress. Getting cards for these decks is killing me.
1) i think it's a given that there will be more Commander decks. at this point i do think it's more speculation than rumor... but given their success and the popularity of the commander format right now... i think it's safe to say that THIS WILL HAPPEN.
2) if/when more commander decks come out... i think it will be longer in between than 6 months. 5 decks at $30 each every 6 months is tough on people. i personally think they would do them once a year. this gives them the opportunity to do something like ftv in the early part of the year, commander decks in the middle, and faction decks at the end of the year.
3) i would also speculate that the next commander sets will be shard-based. then in the future i expect to see allied color decks, enemy colored decks, and then 4 color decks (not necessarily in that order).
Are you sure he interpreted it correctly? They could've meant more commander decks in the sense of a new printrun from the same decks(because at least over here everybody's running out again).
I would have to imagine that it has to be the same print runs of the same decks. They seem to sell like hotcakes, and every 6 months for 5 new decks is putting a lot of work into the hands of the summer magic dev team unless they are no longer responsible for the summer magic release product and only commander.
More commander decks is a given due to the massive success the five first have been. However, five new commander decks every six months seem unlikely. I find it more likely that they will print five new decks yearly, as well as putting more cards that are useful in multiplayer in the various regular sets (I.e. more cards like Exsanguinate, rather than Consume Spirit).
Additionally, it is likely that future blocks will contain a number of legendary creatures (say 10-20 per block).

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).

From what I recall from the PAX East panel, the current Commander decks were meant to stay in print for "a long time". I believe that the plan was to have a 3-year rotation, so next year we should be back to Planechase. He was probably talking about another print run of the same decks (hopefully on higher-quality cardboard).

Releasing every 6 months means we would have already had an announcement by now. Look at dual decks for example. We usually know when the next one is coming before the new one even hits shelves... AvsNB isn't here and we just heard about Koth vs Venser.
Too much design is involved in these products for them NOT to shout at the top of the roofs this was happening. Once a year I believe, esp with the success of this product.
@Knick I think I've heard that same plan... though since Commander was so popular, we might see it pushed up to every other year (that's my speculation).
I really hope it doesn't end up being Shard Commanders, there's enough of them as it is. On the assumption that this rumour is actually correct, obviously.
EDH, on the other hand, is more like a monster truck rally. It's more about the spectacle than the race, the games go long, and it's not usually clear who's in the lead until there's only one truck left.*
Single player EDH is like two guys smacking each other with pillows... until one of them pulls out a shotgun.
Last 3 years we have had 5- 4 decks of multiplayer product every June so yearly release of multiplayer product is likely- 5 more 100 card Commander decks? Not sure it would do as well as the first release but would still sell well.
What about a multiplayer 'expansion' set or packs with some new multiplayer designed cards and somehow new Planes, Schemes and Commanders?
Would like to see Nephilim errata for legend classification or new legend Nephilim for 4 color commander. Wizards look at these but said 4 color had no identity. I would design 4- color with the effect of the commander puninshing opponent playing the missing color or color effects. Say u are playing the non-blue one -effect that punishes opponents for card draw / mind control effects. Non- green punishes opponets for ramp / extra mana effects. Black - tutor and returning from graveyard. white anti- lifegain and?Red haste and would say direct damage but that is not good in commander usually. Maybe anti chaos effects.
For those that are speculating on the next release being Shards I would say that it seems that they're trying to print things to fill in the gaps (I.E. Wedge Generals). Maybe they would do Enemy Colored next since there aren't so many enemy colored.

This! I would love to be able to by packs of planes, schemes, and vangaurd. Or expansions based on the multiplayer formats. Shoot, even if they did it more like an un set but just kept to a multiplayer format, letting only a portion of the set be ridiculous would be fun....and I like the look of the silver border cards.
But all seriousness, I think that this would be a fun way for people to expand there multiplayer decks/utilities.
But back on topic. I have to agree with everyone, 6 months seems a bit harsh, and it makes it for no room for the other multiplayer goodness. I mean if they have a set of EDH coming out every six months, that really doesn't leave design time for the fans of archenemy or planechase (which I fall into that last category). And we will never see the third unset ever happen, which would be a crime.
As said before, they are probably going to keep a print run of the EDH decks every six months, printing the same ones over and over for the three years. Which in my opinion was the big problem with the other multiplayer media. It was a pain finding the last two of my planechase decks due to the lack of them being printed after a certain point. Now it would be cool to see them come out with more....just not this early.
I predict (as someone else said earlier) a 3 year rotation between planechase/archenemy/commander.

Panda, that's entirely possible. I do hope that they take market research into account and deliver what people want rather than forcing something that may be unpopular (personally, I like all three products, but I'm OK being in the minority).

As much as I would like new Commander decks in 6 months, my wallet wouldn't. Next summer, sure, that'd be cool. As for speculating what they'd be if WotC were to actually make new ones, like aregand, I wouldn't mind five 4 colored decks. Each deck would come with three 4 colored legends, one of which is a Nephilim that's errated to be legendary.
In the commander panel at GenCon they said that they would love to do some 4 color generals, in fact the set was supposed to have them at first but they found that designing 4 color generals was way to hard to make them feel liek 4 color generals, they mostly ended up feeling like generals that were just missing a color, more defined by what color they didn't have then by the four they did.

Also given the fact that the decks are all heavily dependent on basic land, mana fixing would have been a huge pain.
