I mean it seems like they are making Tezzeret a bigger deal... (New Tezzeret soon... it seems) so I wouldn't be shocked if Tezzeret replaced Jace in the next core set.

Tezzeret and Nissa are probably too specific of niche cards to go in a core set. Elspeth is too strong to be reprinted for a while. Sorin Markov would be cool though.
We will get random creatures (i mean, mythics are supposedly flavorful, but the titans didn't evoke any feeling of high fantasy. They were just undercosted creatures with overpowered utility effects. Even the art didn't do much to suggest titans are awesome) in the mythic slots for 2012. Hopefully, they will be like wurmcoil engine rather than Grave and primeval

I think Magic is a pretty cool guy. He brainstorms every turn and doesn't be afraid of anything.
Actually, there were 8 reprinted mythics, except Protean Hydra got marked down to just a rare. There's a good chance we'll see something similar in M12. I doubt the Titans will get a reprint. They were one of the big things for M11 specifically. M12 will have its own new thing.
I think the 5 original PWs will stay as we already have Chandra's Phoenix confirmed for M12 and BSA will be out as I understood from MaRo's article Magic Goest To Eleven
At first Lightning Bolt was removed, but there were fans in the Pit that lobbied for its return. Then Baneslayer Angel was removed but there were concerns that it was wrong to take a card that's valuable in so many decks and only allow it in Standard for a single year (okay, fifteen months). In the end, the development team decided that both had their reasons to return and kept them both.
Then you likely misunderstood the quote. That was simply a story talking about switching out two spells that are now iconic parts of the core set, Lightning Bolt and BSA. Is there a chance they'll be booted? Yes. But because of how strong the cards are and how useful they are in general (in other words, they're not narrow, like say...Devoted Lightcaster) they'll likely keep getting reprinted.

Perhaps I misunderstood it, as english is not my first language, but if BSA only stayed because it was too early to remove it I think M12 will be the perfect time to do it (I think a lot of people is already sick of it)

In my opinion the core set should only have 5 mythics, the 5 original walkers. Core set cards should complement the expert sets on each side of it, not create archtypes on its own.

I know what you mean, but as soon as they started putting new cards in the core set they added an additional function to it. The core set is now also a place where Wizards can add cards without needing to make them fit into the current setting of the current block. (Say a goblin when we're in a block set on a world without them) It gives them freedom to print more cards that would otherwise get put on hold (and possibly never get released). This applies across all rarities, and as such will occaisionally release cards that will have a significant impact.
After two sets, I'm thinking that Baneslayer Angel is going to get the Protean Hydra treatment and get knocked down to rare. Even this thread has a couple examples to show that the card just doesn't wow people anymore. It isn't going to be a card that moves M12 packs on its own.
I mean it seems like they are making Tezzeret a bigger deal... (New Tezzeret soon... it seems) so I wouldn't be shocked if Tezzeret replaced Jace in the next core set.
If wizards were smart they would boost there M12 pack sales and have the following 5 Walkers return.
That will NEVER happen. Wizards reprinting Jace? Nope. Same with Gideon. They like sticking with the cycle of 5 and adding new ones. I hope they don't reprint Titans or we'll have the most boring meta ever. I am betting on a baneslayer reprint though.
About a year ago I had a debate with my friend.
He said Elspeth, Knight-Errant would never be reprinted and we should pick up copies as soon as it rotated.
I said she'd be in a duel deck or else core set.
He scoffed and said I didn't know nothing.
Guess who was right?
Reprinting Big Jace is as easy as going "HHHHMMMMMM... Lets make Jace fight Tezzeret in the next plotline!" Then bam, Duel Deck central.
I mean, it won't happen for a while, to be sure, but never, never, never say never. (barring reprint list stuff)
i actually think that if they did reprint BSA she needs to remain mythic.. the only real reason she doesnt still dominate games right now is because of the titan cycle. shes too "small", and doesnt have abilities that effect the game immediately

I agree that Lorwyn walkers would most likely see reprinting, but it would be cool to see their 2.0 versions (Chandra and Jace, remember Ajani Goldmane is the 2.0 version timeline wise). It would give the game more of an evolving feel since they are suppose to be the 'core' walkers.
If they keep reprinting the same walkers over and over then they will lose people buying packs. Isn't that part of the reason they changed it so that core sets were 50% new? To keep it exciting for the players? Soon the original walkers will be considered junk mythics and nobody is going to want to buy packs for fear that if they get a mythic, it will be one of those 5.
Considering that at least 1 or 2 of the other mythics tend to be "junk" which makes about half of all the mythics being "junk" if they reprint the 5 walkers.
Now if I buy a box and pull 4-6 mythics, there's a good chance that 2-3 of those will be the "junk" ones, and I don't know if I would be willing to shell out for a box if that were the case.
I know that Wizards says that they don't care about the secondary market, but they have to at least consider it... and consider how it will affect people buying their product.
There are a couple of scenarios I could see playing out. Probably the most likely one is the reprinting of the five original walkers (with perhaps the newer Chandra or Jace since those are mono-colored) and two other mythics. I doubt one will be Baneslayer Angel, as I agree that MaRo's article seems to imply that she's likely to rotate out next time. I wouldn't be surprised if they reprint just two of the titans, perhaps the ones that saw the least play to give them a second chance to shine... either that or the two with the most hype to move packs. I remember several years ago they only reprinted some of the Prophecy Avatars in the core set but not all, so it's not inconceivable.
They could also do the opposite, and reprint all five Titans and then throw in two Planeswalker reprints, likely of those planeswalkers that will be featured in the upcoming large set. MaRo's comments on Baneslayer/Lightning Bolt make me think this may be possible, since they didn't want to take out the cards that excited people about M10 after only one year, and the Titans are the cards that did that with M11.
Of course these aren't the only two options... they could up/lower the number of mythic reprints, they could do with the Titans/Planeswalkers like they did with the Leylines and make part of the cycle reprints and part new cards. Will be interesting to see what path they take on this.
Titans are likely out as they are M11's identity cards.
The original 5 planeswalkers are doing its job as representative of their own color's abilities. Most likely to be reprinted.
BSA will go I think, as they said that they are planning to remove it but gave it another year; but hey, they could give it another year or so.
The other mythics are not working.. meaning they are not giving the proper impact the mythics should have... most likely they will be replaced.. unless playtesting shows the new environment makes them stand out.

I meant NEVER in a core set. I could totally see big Jace in a duel deck, but they don't want him conquering the meta for that long. Elspeth is obviously no longer legal in Standard. So they would wait till Jace is out. This thread is about M12.

While a lot of people are sick of it, there are a lot of people that use it as the fantastic finisher it is. It wasn't kept simply because it was too early to remove it, it was kept because of how useful it was, and considering it's still very useful, I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.
the truth is, im stick of core sets every year already, i liked it when wizards did a core set every other year and then tried something new every other year. it just kept things fresh and fun.
I really hope the Titans are gone... Sure I don't like the fact that we have so many staple mythics, and that every colour gets a very similar set of cards, but what I dislike the most is that the Titans are just good enough that they bump out pretty much every other creature that's around the same cost. It's not that they are overpowered, it's just that they are pretty much the best for their cost to the extent that we lose the option to run things like Wurmcoil, Steel Hellkite, and Jwar Isle Sphinx as a finisher. I mean sure, we can run them, but it's very hard to justify it, and to this extent we get a much more bland meta as opposed to decks like Solar Pox because there wasn't a right choice of big creature to run... Seeing as you could run various creatures and each fit a different role but none of them was a catch all like a Titan is right now. Such in that Skeletal Vampire filled a different role than Angel of Despair, but you could run both in the same deck and feel fine for the most part, and also feel a little nervous about which one you got during which match up you played.
Why are we so certain this is impossible? While I don't see them creating entirely new (storywise) planeswalkers for a core set, they could print, say, a Baltrice, Planeswalker card. Or even Ajani 3.0, or Garruk 2.0.
Has Wizards said somewhere there will be no "new" planeswalkers in core sets, and I just missed it?

I sure hope they dont take your approach to the yearly core sets. The titans were pushing the limit on mythics. They should have just stuck with the original 5 and never printed any other pws.

...so the only planeswalkers ever printed in the history of Magic, in your opinion, should have been the LOR 5? Yeah, no. Stop trolling. That'd be like saying the only Angel that should have ever been printed in the history of Magic is Serra Angel. No other angels. Not even Akroma. Just Serra.
Don't forget there are two Chandra's though... which would be my guess as to which new school red planeswalker would get reprinted...
My guess / hope is M12 will have these planeswalkers.
