Scars of Mirrodin is quite obviously an artifact set, and it kicks off an entire artifact block. I'd be surprised if we went the whole way through it without a mass artifact destruction spell of some kind. That's the sort of effect that Standard will want to have in it for the long term, or else there wouldn't be a stopgap measure for some kind of crazy artifact rush deck that got out of hand. We didn't put it in Scars of Mirrodin because we thought it would be better to give everyone some time to run amok with artifacts before giving out the nuclear codes.
I doubt Shatterstorm would be back. The strongest mass artifact removal in the original Mirrodin block was Granulate... and with the overall lower power level of the artifact madness this time around, something like that might be good enough to work.
How about
Molten Storm 3RR
Instant
Destroy all artifacts.
Metalcraft- Each creature and each player takes damage equal to the artifacts destroyed by this.
Phyrexia isn't really "black" anymore either - it's blue and green as well in SOM. If MBS is moving to 50/50 mir/phyr then I expect phyrexia to move into all colors.
I should like to see a functional reprint of Fracturing Gust (as I seriously doubt hybrid will be back in this block).
2(G/W)(G/W)(G/W)
Fracturing Gust (Shadowmoor)
Instant - Rare
Destroy all artifacts and enchantments. You gain 2 life for each permanent destroyed this way.
Yes the disk would be nifty but.... You would have to functionally reprint the card due to the name of the disk.
Shatterstorm and purity do just fine so i dont know what else it could be but i think its an awesome kinda spell due to tom lapille just talking about it. If he was just refereing to some old card being reprinted then it would not barely even make the head lines
I wonder the odds of this spell being playable. If it is, I guarentee it's in White.
Sarcasm and *insert this season's dominant color* hatred aside, I see this most likely being White or Red. They both have history with mass destruction, and flavor wise seem to be the 2 main "opposing" colors to the Phyrexians.
Maybe a cheaper Shatterstorm that only hits creatures/non-creature artifacts? Or even better, maybe some sort of utility one with a variant of Entwine to allow for one, the other, or both?
R Citizen Cane (Feldon of the Third Path)

Thanks to zaphod for great sign!!!
Shatterstorm has been already reprinted in 10th edition, so affinity would be destroyed anyway...
I think it can't be reprinted as itself due to the "cannot be regenerate" clause that goes against wizards's policy to reinforce regenerate ability.
They could make a nerfed version a-là day of judgment though, but it would be very boring...
It's strange that so many people choose to be stupid...
Doesn't metalcraft activate upon casting the spell, not resolution?
Man I suck with rules.

Purify
Shatterstorm
I have a feeling the diski is the most likely candidate though.
I like Turtles
I suspect it's an artifact that destroys all artifacts, kinda like a more limited Nev's disk.
Retawesorkram's disk
3
Artifact
ETBT
T, Sac: Destroy all artifacts
[B]DCI Level 2 JudgeIt wouldn't fit flavorwise

Fracturing Gust (Shadowmoor)

A green / white instant with some life-gain would be welcome and would not likely unbalance the set or block given Darksteel Myr, Darksteel Juggernaut, Darksteel Axe, and Darksteel Sentinel.

Champion lives but loses his protection afterward?
meat's Trade Corner
Etched Champion is destroyed. Shatterstorm doesn't target anything, so protection doesn't save Etched Champion.

The Disk isn't reserved. It was in 4th Edition. If they felt like giving blue a Wrath and black a Shatterstorm, they could stick it in M12.
