I also agree that it's an interesting theory, it's just one i don't want to see happen. having purple added to the game *not counting the timeshifted purple, of course* would be what would force me to quit the game. Not because i don't llove the game, but because it would just destroy it as we know it. But, again, very interesting theory.
Would there be any point in adding a sixth color? It seems like it would be a shake up for the sake of shaking it up rather than any meaningful addition. Pretty much everything in Magic is based around the color pie and the relationship the colors have with each other. There would be a ridiculously incongruent break in card design direction at the point a sixth color is introduced because you'd have to make a sixth land, sixth philosophy and a totally new color relationship.
Stuff like Eldrazi was not very difficult to implement because it was easily done within the current structure of the game. Not even Future Sight contained stuff like a sixth color.
Looks like people are more worried with blindly shooting down the idea of it that appreciating the effort you put into looking into it. Not sure how I feel about the idea either, but certainly think it's interesting and a fun read.
Thanks.
It's expected though, because it's a natural reaction to change. Many people don't like change. I don't fully buy into it myself honestly nor am I campaigning for the idea, as I said earlier. I'd need further proof before I ever go around sporting the following avatar:
This has to be the greatest prank ever pulled. InQuest printed an article about 13 years ago stating that purple was going to become a sixth color. People have believed it ever since. It was a JOKE. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go find the thread talking about Force of Will being reprinted.

Haha... certainly, but I saved the image just in case.
What you labeled "black" is a moon for the red planet. The "purple" planet is the one that is there to represent swamps. There are other bodies such as an asteroid belt there too so it looks more spacey. notice how the blue planet has rings around it, unless you want to argue that those too are new colors I doubt you can make this connection. It's just artwork, and an exceptional claim that they are adding a sixth color needs exceptional evidence.
Yeah because wizards never teases anything about magic ever, and it so makes much more sense that it's an awkward moon randomly in the middle of the picture, instead of having a smooth ally ring and the whole explanation of the green planet exploding. Totally makes more sense.

Even the ally ring is open to interpretation. To me (and I think a few others have mentioned it in this thread) the blue planet looks like it's in the background, placing it between the red and green planets.
And how about we wait for the card before trying to figure out why the green planet is exploding?
You never know if they came up with a super cool idea and found a way to make it work.
Well I have read somewhere on Wizards they have had some cards and ideas that where postponed for a long time before seeing the light of day, who knows, maybe the reason for failing to reach Planar Chaos has been solved now and they will come up with a 6th colour.
I think this is a fun topic to discuss but in all honesty I am a bit sceptical about it and I aplaud you for finding the things you did OP but I think, like many others before that the 6th planet is in fact Black and your Black planet might be Artifact or Colourles
I think it would be interesting if they were to make a 'pseudo' 6th color which would be colorless. Not 'pick any colored mana or a non-colored mana to make this' but 'you can only pay colorless mana to pay for this'. That would be LIKE a 6th color without actually stepping on any toes.
A sixth color would definitely add to the game in both revenue and depth. Really adding it in would counterbalance the issue with counterspell power in the game especially. The main issue with blue is that it is really the only color that can counterspell.
From a mechanics stand point it makes perfect sense that after the exploitation of colorless we get a new color. A new color means new mechanics, new planeswalkers, new hybrid colors, and new deck ideas.
The storyline with Mirrodin with the Five Dawns and having a Sixth Dawn with a cityscape would apply to the storyline mostly. The real question I have though is what sort of "style" the city would have in general and characters.
The change in the formats for hastening up extended's rotation would line up with the addition of a new color as well, because a large card pool would drown out the awakening of a new color.

Based on articles and tweets mentioned, I would lean on the fact that there WILL be purple cards, but it won't be a COLOR purple. It looks like they are referencing the type instead, more like Timeshifted cards.
The hints lead it to be Alt. Reality cards, and I would expect it to just be random inserted cards that are alternate reality cards, like Damnation over Wrath of God type things.
a sixth color is a terrible idea. It would need an entire block devoted to it for introduction to the world. They could drop it for the next block if it fails, but it would be a strange block gimmick and possibly ruin drafts.
If purple was just for one block, when the next block comes out there will be one purple card that eternal formats want and the rest will be ignored.

I am looking for Date Stamped promos from Khans of Tarkir block so I can finish my set. Check my wants if you have any.
Currently offering 2 non-foil Kolighan's Command for a Date Stamped foil!
It would make sense that they would add timeshift like cards to a set when we are revisting an old plane. Possibly something caught in a rift between what the old plane was, and what the new plane is. The precedent is there.
As stated earlier, Purple is generally Blacks representation color wise in art.
As for them bringing in purple... the evidence presented really isn't sound or pointing to it in any degree really, just wishful and extravigent speculation, nothing more.
Edit: And besides, what would it even do that the other colors don't already?

Brian Tinsman, Set Designer :?mana::snow::snow:
Legendary Creature – Human Designer (MR)
Brian Tinsman, Set Designer can only be cast during the third set of a block.
When Brian Tinsman, Set Designer enters the battlefield, ignore all flavor and mechanics of the first two sets in the block. "Ok so what do we have here... gothic horror? Scrap it. Expand the Devine Vs. Demonic duel deck to 244 cards and print it!"
2/2
1) Planeswalkers were supposed to be in time spiral but they weren't because they couldn't get it right at the time, so they were postponed.
2) It seems wizards have been trying to have a "6th" color for awhile; the snow lands in ice age, and then they reintroduced it in coldsnap. Snow never really caught on, so maybe they want to finally add the new color.
3) The back of the cards should have already been changed. The tm should be r, and there shouldn't really be deckmasters anymore. Even if they were to change it, competitions require sleeves to play.
4) If they did add them, it will not be "the end is nigh." It would enrich the game, like 'walkers did.
I always thought they might do a 6th color as a sort of cosmic color. But I don't think the pic means anything. The 5 planets are clearly the color wheel, I don't see how anyone can refute that. It wasn't just by chance the artist drew 5 planets of the right colors in the right order in a circle. Now the purple planet doesn't necessarily mean a 6th color; it could simply be the artist filling up space, or maybe it represents colorless, or maybe it really is foreshadowing. It doesn't mean there will be a new color, but it doesn't mean there won't be.
I could see purple a likely color for an expansion set, maybe simular to snow lands.
Although I'd wouldnt be too surprised that this purple expansion set is just another unglued/unhinged... And wow... unhinged really sucked with all that 1/2 mana and 1/2 damage crap, totally unplayable set even for fun.

About that, the reuse of a common everyday phrase is very poor evidence for anything.

Rosewater has written two articles named Slow and Steady. This was confirmed a mistake.
Also, despite saying he's become mindful of it, he has still repeated some of his plays on the phrase "Eight is enough" within his articles.
He forgets what references he has made.
You're quoting something from four years ago. In R&D time, that's like 6 years ago.
