Well, I don't think he was implying it would be a good deck, but Wakestone Gargoyle was in the Azorious pre-constructed deck, so someone obviously likes the effect.
It's tough to say. Those words in the Orb make it seem pretty likely, though it seems like current templating favors "CARDNAME loses defender." We would definitely need some defenders with higher power, though. The highest power spoiled so far (granted, out of what, like three?) is 2.
Personally, I hope there isn't something like this, just because it messes with the "Zendikar needs to be on the defensive now that the Eldrazi are loose" flavor. It's like oh, not really, they can focus on attacking now if they want to. Zendikar's probably fine without them.

Cards that let you break fundamental rules are fun, though. It's just like when we had the legendary theme in Kamigawa, we had Mirror Gallery. Back when we used to have a ton of walls in Magic, we had Rolling Stones. It's no different than cards that graft every keyword in existance onto every card it could possibly go on. As long as it's not likely to do something broken (or have some kind of practical issue) it tends to get printed.

isn't offense the best defense though?
i mean, they can't get rid of the problem without attacking
I was thinking a reprint of Word of Blasting, or an aura that lets creatures destroy Defenders when their blocked. Maybe an equipment:
Demolition Pack 2
Artifact - Equipment
When equipped creature is blocked by a creature with Defender,
destroy that creature.
Equip: 1
I doubt we'll see anything that strong. I'd say something like Ogre Gatecrasher would be more reasonable. There should be answers, but we want the defender theme to actually be good even if it's only in limited.
Plus we havn't seen any stellar defenders yet and I wouldn't think that people would be too happy with a rare wall. It all depends on how many more walls we see.
I want a creature or enchantment that helps lose defender and helps out standard that way with all these defenders running loose. But rolling stones, "we take it for granite" will have to be reworded to allow for all defenders
Like this: Creatures with defender can attack as though they did not have defender.
There will also be a defender that pumps. A 1W or so that grants +1/+1 to all defenders. Maybe the two will be put together
I would be happy with a non-Ultimus, non-Changeling wall that can attack. Or better yet, a wall that has to attack every turn if possible. "How aggressive are Zendikar's defenses? The wall never blocks, only attacks!"

If a wall attacks, it would logically have pretty high power, though. Of course, something like this would be hilarious:
Enraged Wall 3R
Creature- Wall
Trample, Defender 1R: Switch Enraged Wall's power and toughness until end of turn.
2/7
Maybe it just seems counterproductive to me to pay for a creature, then pay more so it can attack. Why not just pay for a creature that's a good attacker in the first place? Not that I want to be the guy that discourages fun casual decks. I'm all about the fun casual decks.
However, I would like to see some kind of Invert the Skies variant, where defenders lose defender and everything else gains defender. Hopefully on something permanent like an enchantment rather than an instant, though.
Sounds like it would be printed at Mythic because it changes the standard rules of the game. Maybe a Mythic with with/without defender or an enchantment that allows defenders to attack with some other ability?
I seriously doubt it would be mythic. Rare usually gets the weird cards. Of course, in a set with a heavy defender theme, it could possibly pass as uncommon. It would just depend on whether there are enough walls you'd attack with in ROE to make it a possible draft archetype.
I said it in another topic, but I'll say it again.
I don't think they are trying to push a viable Defender deck in constructed, it's more built for limited. Some of the walls are good, but nobody is going to be attacking with them in t2.
I would love to see this too... It would be really really awesome if it costed 2WW
Moat would curbstomp aggro decks in Standard. This is better than Moat at that cost. TBH, I wouldn't cost it at lower than 4WW or 2WWW.

Moat would wreck a lot of current standard decks, but this hypothetical card is nowhere near Moat. Moat doesn't require you to have blockers in play to be useful.

Creatures without defender can't attack is more powerful than creatures without flying can't attack. I don't see why you would need blockers.

3WW
Enchantment
Creatures with defender may attack as though they didn't have defender.
Creatures without defender can't attack.
That's... actually really sick.
Since we don't have any multicolor besides Sarkhan, we would have to presume that it would be mono white....so....
3WW
Enchantment
Creatures assign damage with toughness instead of power.
All creatures that have defender lose defender.
