Sword of Earth and Steel 3
Artifact - Equipment
Card text: Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and gains protection from green and from artifacts. This effect doesn't remove Sword of Earth and Steel.
Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, put a 2/2 green bear creature token onto the battlefield and tap or untap target artifact.
Equip 2
The cycle is incomplete though without an equipment that protects against green. I think an equipment like that would see a ton of play in Extended and Legacy where Tarmogoyf is played in most every deck.
And just like Red is the opposite of Blue and White is the opposite of Black, Green is the opposite of Artifacts.
Green hates artifacts. It hates anything artificial. And artifacts almost never have green like abilities. So it would make perfect sense.
So how long do you think it'll be before wizards prints something similar to this. I think they pretty much have to, especially considering how badly Extended and Legacy want and need a card like this.
If you don't believe me about how badly Legacy wants to see this card, just take a look at this thread.
I don't see it happening. The flavor imbalance is a little weird, but it made sense in the Mirrodin context (where there were only four moons - white, blue, red & black.) It's like how Coral Net seems weird now, or the fact that the Enlightened Tutor/Vampiric Tutor/Worldly Tutor/Mystical Tutor cycle was never (really) completed, or how the Guildpact guilds had one less rare than the Ravnica/Dissensions guilds - just one of those weird historical irregularities that gives the game its flavor.
P.S. Giving it protection from artifacts would cause the sword to fall off. ('Nathed, natch.)
Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and gains protection from green and from non-equipment artifacts.
Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, put a 3/3 green Beast creature token onto the battlefield and tap or untap target artifact.
This. I like the idea, but to keep it from being broken with unblockables and things to the effect of Finest Hour, keep it untapping or tapping a permanent other than the equipped one.
But its the creature that gains the ability so it would still protect against the equipment.
Also the four origional abilities were around the same level of power as a 1 cost spell in its colours, red: deal to damage to target creature or player. Blue: draw a card, White: gain 3 life, Black, raise dead.
While making a 3/3 is that of a weaker 3 cost or stronger 2 cost card, and the twiddle effect feels out of place

You're right. I made it a 2/2 bear instead of a 3/3. I suppose it could even be a 2/1.
I didn't mean that the printed card should have these same exact abilities, though green making a creature token make the most sense. The twiddle effect was the most artifacty ability I could come up with, but I'm sure wizards can think up something better.
I just meant that Legacy and Extended would love to see a Sword equipment that gives creatures protection from Tarmogoyf. So it seems like a no brainer that they should print it.

Still waiting for a spell "exile target creature with CMC 2. Search all zones for copies of that card and exile them."

You said basically what needs to be said with the four moons.
Not counting conditional abilities or cards from futuresite.
There are 6 creatures with pro-green
21 pro white
13 pro blue
39 pro black
33 pro red
Pro-blue is low because frankly to beat blue you usually need can't be countered (12 creatures btw)
There just isn't a lot of pro-green because the flavor of green is that they beat you with big creatures.
Or you could just use Shield of Duty and Reason like I did back then.

"protection from artifacts you don't control"
In 99% of cases, it does what you want it to. Plus, it lets you have a creature that's carrying all three of the swords...
Look at the pictures from the two Mirrodin swords. They are both being held by the same thing, that elf or whatever it is. There are only two swords, because he only has two hands. There's also the deal with the four moons, AND the fact that pro-green doesn't make any sense whatsoever. They beat stuff up with big dudes, so pro-green would effectively be having a large toughness.

I've always thought that Gamble completes that cycle
I've always thought that Gamble completes that cycle
Gamble was actually created specifically because so many people complained to them about the cycle being incomplete that they wanted to "finish" it up later.
You know, it's a cool idea to complete the Sword of "Insert Two Opposing Things Here" cycle, but it also seems like something of a bad idea. What use would the card have? Yeah, pro Green and Pro Artifacts can be relevant and useful as sideboard cards, but unlike the other cards occasionally having a dual benefit when playing multi-color decks, this sword would virtually never have the same. You would either get Pro Green OR Pro Artifacts. Oh, and I forgot to mention, the main difference between having Pro Red and Blue or Pro White and Black to Pro Green and Pro Artifacts is something very important: the latter two have protection from relevant removal colors. There are virtually no Green or Artifact kill spells for you to worry about, therefore making the card far less relevant and far closer to jank than its brothers.
Oh, and the abilities listed on the speculative card are really bad IMO. If you're playing against a green deck, they're not going to be worried about you getting a free token every turn because they'll probably have something much larger to block it with. Still, it is a chump blocker of your own. It would need to be a 3/3 to be effective. And tapping or untapping a permanent? Couldn't we think of something better as an artifact ability. Like, I don't know, returning an artifact with converted mana cost 2 or less from your graveyard to your hand whenever you deal combat damage to an opponent? It at least allows for trinket shenanigans.
If they ever do another nostolgia block, I think it'll most likeley be a tour-the-planes theme. And this sword would be a good fit for that block.
The only other idea I can think of is to finish the cycle with three more cards for each of the other enemy combination: Sword of Life and Death, Sword of Reason and Instinct, and Sword of War and Peace.
I had always wondered why they didn't make one for green vs artifact back when it was a big theme in Mirrodin.
How about this:
Sword of Earth and Steel 2
Artifact - Equipment
Equipped creature gets +2/+2, Protection from Green, and Protection from Non-Equipment Artifacts
Whenever equipped creature deals combat damage to a player, you may untap lands equal to it's power then search you library for an artifact with converted mana cost equal to it's toughness, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
Equip: 2
It's a little wordy, but I like the flavor and function.
@ rwhitisissle, giving equipped creatures so much relevant protection for so cheap is what makes the two some of the most useful equips printed, but I hardly think a useful equip that can make multiple creatures threatening throughout the game is jank just for lack of giving protection. Just look at Umezawa's Jitte. It's ridiculously powerful, and doesn't give any sort of protection. Sure, it can save a creature after some counters are on it, but you might end up using some for fodder to build up the jitte first. I think any of the versions suggested here could see some play. They just wouldn't actually save as many creatures as the two previous swords. But that wasn't and isn't why equips are awesome anyway. Equips are so awesome because they stay out to make your next little twig into a ravenous beating stick or mean tech creature. And in some cases they do a little of both.
Naturalize and Shatter effects were more relevant when people still cared about Terror and black kill-spells with similar clauses... we're pampered with things like Doom Blade. Though an artifact that grants pro-green would be unflavorful/awkward, i dunno if it would compromise the game beyond gouging 'Goyf. Also, AzureShadow brings up an excellent point. Btw, Wizards just bought the rights to a series of set names speculated to take place on Mirrodin... should they make something like this, it'll be in Zen/whatever Standard.

I'm not that familiar with the Mirrodin story that much, but the green sun is still there, right? That would mean that it would make sense flavor-wise now, no? Also, the dude with the swords got sent back to his home plane, right? Presumably he was sent home empty handed, so someone else can have them.

Also: Elves are seldom 3/3, and generally Elf tokens are 1/1. 3/3 green tokens are sometimes Elephants, sometimes Beasts.
On 7/14/10, broke 1900 mark! <3 ROE.

Problem solved.
That being said, I as well have been waiting a long time for a card like this to be printed.

We got that a little in Future Sight, although we didn't know which planes at the time.
If we are going back to Mirrodin it would be cool to see the "missing sword."
