No, no, I think you're onto something. Maro said Zendikar's theme wouldn't be pirates or robots or dinosaurs... But he didn't say anything about robotic dinosaur pirates!!! Oh, and since there was a vampire lord in the recent core set, they MUST have been lying about it being designed in a vaccum, and that obviously top-down card must have meant there will be vampires too! That's it! Zedikar is the Vampiric robot dinosaur pirate tribal block!
And they said we didn't have enough to base our speculation on yet. HA! let's see them try to disprove THIS flawless logic!
[/sarcasm]
Although it's already been amply discussed that M10 was not designed in a vacuum, considering the most solid evidence in Great Sable Stag as an answer to blue black Fae/Control.
And let's not forget the 10th ed lords, all of which were supported in Lorwyn/Shadowmoor. It's more than fair to say that the new lords will be supported in Zendikar.
The whole thing with inter-block synergy is true though. I was really mad there weren't any new fish to include in Alara, but it does make sense. The block after Lorwyn did have Merfolk and that block was Shadowmoor. I know that they are basically the same block, but from a design standpoint, I bet they were pretty tired of using those creature types by then.
Zendikar will most likely have Merfolk and Zombies. I would be shocked if it didn't have Elves, Goblins, or Soldiers. I think Wizards is trying to reestablish the typical race for ea ch creature. Merfolk were out for a long time and Zombies weren't in Lorwyn, a tribal block. I know the reason why Zombies weren't included, but it is off to have Goblins as the black creatures.
On a complete aside, I would love to see some Dwarves. I don't think Wizards experimented enough with that tribe. They are more than simply their beards. Eventide was a good example of possible places to take them.

Someone up there said something about Vampiric Elves. WOW! Wouldn't THAT be cool! Now I want to see vampire elves almost as much as I want to see dwarves again!

Next time you're planning to make fake cards, maybe you shouldn't think out loud in a forum where everyone can see it!! You'll never fool us now!!!
On an internet forum? Don't be ridiculous. That never happens.
If you say so.
This literally made me laugh out loud. Thank you, sir!
In any case, the bit about seds has convinced me. I was on the fence before, but now I'm 100% ready to believe we'll see yet more vampires in ZEN
(YAY!)

My post wasn't serious, although Elvish Vampire (the print name it would get if they went with something as simple as Skeletal Vampire (the Vampire Skeleton)) does sound interesting.
Elvish vampires are such a cool idea! They already printed G/B elves in Llorwyn so evil elves are not a foreign concept.
OMG!!! Imagine a plane where some vampire lord decided he wanted to turn each and everyone else on this plane into vampires! The entire plane would either have to unite against this threat to beat it... or succumb to it entirely!!!
There'd be some hero guy that would be a vampire himself. Trying to preserve the balance... just so he could remain on top of the food chain as opposed to being on the same level as everyone else...
There'd be some white and shiny paladin that wants to eradicate ALL vampires. He'd have some epic battles with the vampire hero... until he makes an alliance with the vampiric hero despite their hatred of each other...
There'd be demons and dragons turning into vampires... Maybe there's some really cool angel that could join in the fray... AND GETS VAMPIRIZED HERSELF!!! Holy cow!!! An Angelic Vampire!!! (with protection from demons and dragons... no doubt...)
OH!!! And there could be some Fallen Vampiric Angel as the REAL bad guy!!! (k, that's a stretch... but it'd still be cool!)
Zendikar is going to have a Vampire, Angel, Demon, Dragon theme!!!
Hmmmm.. I wonder what a vampire could do to a genie? What if there was a genie that was... wait for it.... wait for it... just a little longer... wwwwaaaiiittt... A PLANESWALKER!!! oooOOOooooOOOOooooo!!!
What kind of nasty, green, fatty type thing can get involved?

Dwarves and gnomes should take the cool goblin jobs. Goblins have been getting too much love!
Lmao. So am I to understand that vampires are the new pirates? Gee, thanks, Twilight!
In all seriousness though, it's obvious vampires will make an appearance in Zendkiar. Will they be hugely important? maybe, but I wouldn't count on it.

Wow. I was just tossing thoughts into the cesspool, but apparently the idea of Elvish Vampires caught on quickly. It is a pretty cool idea. And they have done a Zombie Merfolk, which they could reprint. It could certainly produce some interesting block and limited games.
Well if they are going to reprint vampires why not the mephidross vampire or a variant of this one. I can see vampires being a set but maybe not zendikar

I read the daily articles on the wizards website on a daily basis. And I believe vampires to be confirmed as a tribe in the set.
Let me look it up,.. ****loooks***
holy crap I cant find it, however... Im 100% I read someone in the official collums confirm that they will be there.
You can sig quote me on this, and if Im wrong Ill give away my planeswalker collection to the homeless.
The tribes for each color are being tweaked and redefined. M10 shows a fundamental change to vampires, expanding the tribe with lower cost and rarity. I'd say this is just as long term of a change as when we started seeing Sphinxes show up in Ravnica. In terms of flavor, it seems fish tailed merfolk may be out (I don't really like that. Quick, give Inkwell Leviathan some legs too!).
I will agree with you that fish tailed merfolk have fallen out of favor. Look at Lorwyn and all the trouble that Wizards had to go through to make them work on the battlefield.
I'm in the middle of making my own game right now and I have come up with a few good ways to make merfolk work on the battlefield.

"... the Vampire creature type is on the rise as a well-supported tribe, and the game play of this card—killing other creatures and deriving temporary strength from them—is pretty right-on for the flavor of a vampire." http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/stf/47
Funny you should say that... you mean Vampires not based off Romanian folklore? I don't know if such a thing exists...:p (What I'm saying is basically that Moroii can count as Transylvanian... it comes from the same country, at least).
By that logic, it is almost just as likely that Vampire Nocturnus' top of library mechanic is the theme of the next set... "Why would they print one card that cares about the top of the library, but not any others?"
Not the same thing at all. If you've been watching how WotC has always pushed cross-block synergy, this makes more than all the sense in the world (ever wonder why Ravnica had so many spirits?... yeah, it was a random coincidence:rolleyes: they thought putting restless ghosts into the storyline would be just interesting and nothing else...;))

I just want to say to all the "Vampire Elves" people out their....it doesn't matter what race a vampire is, cause its still a vampire and any living creature can be turned unless your in a fantasy setting with extremely strict rules for vampires. I hope vampires are in Zen heavily cause I want a new vampire dragon.
I've actually thought of this one, and wondered if Bears would ever get any sort of Tribal Unification.
But what exactly would a creature bring to a table whose entire tribe's unity is being 2/2 for 1G?
