A: I haven't read the book.
B: Thanks for spoiling it.
What are you talking about? You litteraly asked for it. "Who even says he'll be a 'walker? He may just end up a legendary creature." That's what you said.
explain how it's ok to use his name and not God then. You can't. i see your point, but wizards can never have such an opinion
Consider Nebuchadnezzar and Mephistopheles. Consider also that Gideon is a name commonenough that its association with Christianity may not be at the forefront of most peoples' associations.
Also, the word 'God' is not inherently outlawed: Godsire. Godtoucher.

i didn't spoil anything, i just reasoned what the last person spoiled. if you don't want to know what he looks like abilities ect i won't tell you.
...but this is the rumor mill and speculation forum...your probably going to see some if you stick around here lol.
He may not even be a Planeswalker card. There are tons of planeswalkers that don't have a card, and although I haven't read the book, I've heard nothing about him walking with or before Chandra to Zendikar. Zendikar is only mentioned in the book, so unless the book actually says something about him going there, he probably won't be a walker in Zendikar, although perhaps in one of the later sets of Zendikar, which has already been said (and that would only happen if a book is written that keeps Chandra's love interest with Gideon.)

All of the new planeswalkers that didn't get a card where killed in various novels except for Gideon. Gideon also is going to get made into a card that much we know. since his whole focus is being a planeswalking love intrest to chandra i can't see them turning him back into a legendary creature...
Ummmm... I haven't read any of the novels, so pardon my naiveness, but who in Kalamazoo is Gideon????
Can some explain with some detail(s)???
Hes a mage hunter and he says he studies hieromancer (Hiero means holy, and hieromancy is divination through entrails). he has some martial training chandra thought he was some sorta inter-stellar bounty hunter. he also has a sural (think wonderwoman's lasso) that makes anyone shut up when grabbed by it. Hes got this whip like thing called a sural that makes anyone hit by it to be silent. he seems like a controlish planeswalker from what i know, somehow surprising chandra with a sudden ability. he also can't seem to heal his own wounds well...he wanted a white mage to help him recover his wounds instead of elves.

I didn't suggest a legendary creature again. And we don't know that he's getting made into a card. We only know that it's a possibility. The person that told us it might happen said just that; it MIGHT happen. That doesn't mean it will.

We know that R&D chose to make a card of the character, and then had a card design completed with the intent of using it as a design for this character. It's extremely unlikely that a major character card that R&D went out of their way to include would be cut from a set entirely during development (rather than just redesigned, if there was some problem), so we can indeed take the story as presented as nigh upon proof that Gideon will be receiving a PW card in the near future.

Cards get cut toward the end of design ALL THE TIME. Not to mention that Gideon didn't walk to Zendikar with Chandra. While he may end up in one of the sets of Zendikar, although I find it unlikely, he may just as well end up in the block after M11 (or not). Not to mention that by the time she saw this template, they'd probably already started printing Zendikar. They begin design on their sets YEARS in advance. She was shown the Gideon template shortly after finishing the novel.

Cards do. Planeswalker cards, mythic rares which (i would presume) get a lot of development attention to find the sweet spot between powerful and staple to justify their mythic status probably don't. Planeswalker cards based on central characters in the novels and plane's storyline almost certainly don't. As Charlequin said, the fact that he's a planeswalker makes the odds of him getting cut and not just revamped very unlikely.
I haven't read the book. I don't know if I'll ever get around to reading the book. Those of you who have read the book surely know more about this Gideon character than I do. If I ever DO read the book, I'm sure I'll find this character quite cool and would wonder what kind of card he'd have. It's almost a given that SOMEBODY in WOTC would think of making a card out of him. Her talking about it just verifies that somebody is. I would not believe that she's violating any contracts of non-disclosure by saying what she did.
All it does is give us something to talk about so for that, I thank you, Laura!

Dwarves and gnomes should take the cool goblin jobs. Goblins have been getting too much love!
I don't remember the article, but I remember someone from WotC mentioning something about a second try at artwork for a planeswalker that already has a template being shown to him. Could that possibly be Gideon? And again, I don't think they'd still be in templating for a Planeswalker going into this set.
Cards get cut toward the end of design ALL THE TIME.
As Grakk said: cards get cut all the time, but major storyline character cards get redesigned when a problem comes up at the last minute, not cut. A storyline character who makes it as far as Development is very close to a lock to see print in that set, in some form.

In which set is the question though. You all still seem to be ignoring the fact that these design decisions are made at least a year in advance, usually farther. If she was being shown a template (which most likely did get redesigned) it's highly unlikely that we'll be seeing him in Zendikar.

And books take at about a year to write (at least 6 months I assume). Even if he wasn't made in time for Zen he could easily be finished in time for "prosper". Unless of course your using Zendikar as the set name only rather than the block name, then you could be correct.

He's almost certainly not in Zendikar, since we have a fairly good idea that Chandra, Nissa, and Sorin are the three Planeswalkers in that set. I figured that part was largely established at this point and was only speaking to the issue of whether the card would be printed at all in some later set.
Actually, they only start design on a set just over a year from release ('Lights' design started a month or two ago, confirmed by MaRo's twitter).
As the info points towards Gideon being in development, not design, I'd say he's likely to appear in one of the two sets after ZEN. (Zendikar being locked in already, and the set after finishing up very soon)
Yeah, I said at least a year in advance. Sometimes it's more than a year in advance. I'll edit this when I check what date she saw the template, but there's a good chance he won't be in the ZEN block at all. And like I said before, one of the articles on the Magic website mentioned artwork for a card that was getting a template redesign, and that was less than a month ago, which could very possibly be Gideon.
EDIT: Okay, so I couldn't find out when she was shown the card, but it was mentioned over a month ago on Gleemax, and I did find the article I was talking about, although he didn't see a template, he saw artwork that needs to be tweaked.
I'm type-typing away, listing out alternatives for an upcoming keyword mechanic. (Spoiler alert: a future set has a keyword mechanic in it.) Brady Dommermuth, creative team manager, drops a printout on the table that separates my cube from that of fellow creative team writer, Jenna Helland. It's a sketch of a planeswalker character, done for a set that won't release for over a year (spoiler alert, etc.). This "sketch" was done in full, blazing color by one of our top artists, and it is awesome. There are a few details that aren't working for us, and we discuss them—the weapon needs a tweak, and the hair is too reminiscent of somebody else's, and one detail of the costuming should go away—but all of that will get handled. That is the work part of the discussion. The rest of it is that the piece is unmistakably cool. Throughout the day, we keep showing it to fellow Wizards who happen by. The verdict continues to be in favor of its coolness.
