Well, we had Ajani, Tezzeret, Sarkhan, and Elspeth in Shards and Nicol Bolas in Conflux. According to the rule of three, there has to be at least one planeswalker in Alara Reborn. So, any idea who this walker might be?
The rule of three (as I recall from one of MaRo's articles, i think) states that if Wizards does something in the first and second sets of a block, it has to be in the third set, so as not to confuse players. Ie, TS block, suspend was in the first two sets, so it had to be in future sight. I guess the theory is that they can break a 'rule' once and that's fine, but if they do it twice they have to do it all three sets for it to make sense.
In this case though, I feel like this would be a case where said rule could be broken. It's not like we've got a whole new set of PWs with conflux, just a sort of completion of the cycle. Plus it feels like it would be contradicting what wizards said about wanting to make PWs more special, having them in three straight sets.
The rule wouldn't be broken here, because I don't think it even applies, to begin with. This rule, I'd guess works with themes and subthemes. Planeswalkers are neither, they're just characters. (It's like saying that if sets 1 and 2 has Legendary creatures, set 3 HAS to... which just isn't necessarily true) Unless Alara's storyline already has a sixth 'walker lurking, there's absolutely no guarantee that ARB will feature a Planeswalker card (although that would be kinda cool, though).
Besides, remember that Alara Reborn will feature something "never done before"... maybe they mean they won't follow this rule? [/lol]
Qwerty has it right. I don't think one walker in Alara Reborn would hurt the specialness that much, though. Just look at how many cards every other card type gets. Besides, walkers seem to be an automatic $5+ rare.
I don't think we need more planeswalkers at this point in time. We may still get some since this is a plane having major problems, the plane could see some new PWs looking for something interesting.
It is also possible that a sixth PW could be born/created/unlocked after the shards are combined.

I am looking for Date Stamped promos from Khans of Tarkir block so I can finish my set. Check my wants if you have any.

I would be very surprised if we see any in Reborn. I'm not expecting to see any new Planeswalkers until at least "Live" now. With the possibility they will reprint the Lorwyn 'walkers in 11th before then.
I think we have a pretty decent cast to work with story-wise, with the 9 we've got now (some of them we still know almost nothing about). If these are supposed to be the new stars of the show, so to speak, then I'm hoping they'll slow down a bit now and let the ones we have develop a bit before hitting us with the next group.
If this block does get six walkers, I'd expect the next block will have less than five.
Nissa may show up eventually but I doubt it would be so soon. For one we have had no inkling of her in the story yet, and for two she is supposedly exclusive to the X-Box game (for now) which makes it unlikely she would be printed until after the game has already been released.
It's understandable blue control players would be shocked and in denial at the notion of this card, since their decks have been dominating multiple formats for an eternity yet they've curiously never once had to deal with any counter-hosers that weren't ineffectual, narrow CRAP.
Besides, remember that Alara Reborn will feature something "never done before"... maybe they mean they won't follow this rule? [/lol]
Watch, the Never Before Seen thing from Reborn is a set with nothing but Planeswalkers. Kinda like how Legendary things used to be special and reserved for just major storyline things before Kamigawa.
Seriously, though, I don't think Planeswalkers have to fit many of the usual rules, though if they are releasing Nissa Revane for the X-Box they will probably release her for paper Magic and Reborn is as good a time as any.
The Kithkin in Planar Chaos thing doesn't count since that's the second set of the block. The third set can't retroactively do anything to the set before it. Of course, creature types are just flavor anyway outside of tribal. People would notice and be pissed off if there weren't a walker in Reborn, though. They're too high profile to miss, unlike creature types in a non tribal block.

No they won't. There isn't going to be a 'walker in every set and there most likely won't be any in Reborn. I believe you're misusing the "rule of three" in trying to apply it to 'walkers.
They have already told us that walkers would not be in every set. They already told us that they would be fairly rare. We got 5 in lorwyn block. 0 in shadowmoor. 5 in Alara. They have said there wouldn't be a pattern to the walkers being in a set. Looking at what I see above, 5,0,5 it would suggest that we would get 0 next block and 5 the next. HOWEVER as they said there would be no pattern. The fact is that we don't know when a Walker will pop up. I don't feel like there will be one in reborn though. The major characters are covered for this blocks story and unless someone gains a spark I dont see it happening.
Well, as of Conflux each shard has its own Planeswalker, so with Reborn, if there is one, it should be something different. They could even do a diff take on an existing one, ala Ajani.
There is currently one PW per shard, including Nicol Bolas. The only way I could see another in Reborn is if they make a 5-color walker (which would be pretty cool.)

shards of alara is a set highly flavored and based around 5, the only reason there weren't 5 walkers in the first set is it would rock to have bolas be a surprise in the second set. On walker for each shard then would make perfect sense, it gave them a good oppurtunity to try more engineered walkers, rather then the 5 lorwyn ones (which seem tailored well for a core set imo). But these walkers are much less color and much more shard based then the others, so likely being that there will not be one in alara reborn. however according to this rule, the following will remain

And 4, 1, X doesn't really seem to follow a pattern.
Things happen in threes. so they'll print a sixth(3x2) planewswalker in the third set. I guess.
Which is why we won't get another planeswalker. We already have 5.

I don't believe it is going to happen, but if they were to follow the "rule of three", that would be an easy way to justify another Planeswalker.
