Selecting Eleventh Edition Since we've yet to have any word in regards to Eleventh Edition from Wizards, why don't we try collectively selecting the cards for the set?
As many of you would likely agree, there's a very high chance that Mythic Rares will be included, and I think the Lorwyn Planeswalkers and the powerful Legendary cards included in this Core Set should make up the Mythics.
As we go through this, feel free to add in any cards you feel logically could or should be included, and to discuss the choices of other, explaining why you agree or disagree.
On that note, let's begin! Here are some cards so far:
Media is not making me steal. But in a way is like the story of the very hot girl with the short skirt teasing the old sick guy with a history of rape.
Dual lands.
Vivid lands.
Merchant scroll
Brokeness.
Is this your fantasy or everyone else's nightmare?
WHERES THE VANILLAS AND JANK! thats what core sets are about.. jank..
I don't see the point. It's being treated as a tournement level set supposedly, so there's really no reason for Hill Giant when it could be Viashino Fangtail or something.
Maybe a couple vanillas like we get in regular sets...a 3/3 green for 3, if we don't keep Troll Ascetic, and the random 2/1 for 2 that we always seem to get...but those are just there for limited.
Sounds like more wishful thinking than anything else with that list.
11th still is a long way off (8 months or so), so I personally am not going to worry too much about such early speculation with no real basis to work off of for now.
Second, it is pretty unrealistic speculation, more like a wishful dream of somebody who failed to grasp that the core sets tend to be simpler, and not packed with power cards, and cards too complicated to be understood easily by the newer players (Jaya, Shard Phoenix, Thallids etc...) and some are just silly to be there together (I mean, Ascetic, Rhox AND Ravenous Baloth?). Shocklands? Vivid Lands? Nope.
But the speculation level is addressed by the post that you quote. You should have put this into Speculation, not here. Mods, can you please move it there before it gets out of hand?

12 rare lands in a <300 card set? Never gonna happen.
The OP quote has 15 Mythics and over 50 rares listed, and noted that the ideas are ones "so far."
This is just a list of ideas for 11th edition. Personally I think this is an interesting list, and would make for a fun standard, but the preservation of 5-color would be a mistake. Replace the Vivids with the CIPT shard lands, and we're a little more realistic.
EDIT: Derp, didn't read "lands." Just ignore my first sentence.
personally. Seeing the Mythic with Jareth and Nemata is just Crazy. not only would it bring back Token Domination but it could in fact make standard difficult to play with. The 12 Rare lands are not likely, however Just the 10 Shocklands would feel better since we're crawling over Domain Based Sets (secretively Eventide was Domain, leading into the Shards, which we have Wild Nacatl = Domain, then Worldly Counsel and ect...)
It would be alot of fun to play with however the Vivid lands are just Pure insanity, the current format is dominated by Faeries and there are Tons of casual players who play thier local FNM's just to get crushed by 5CC or FellowShip of the Ring and even QNT. including the Vivids is just asking for pain in the post- Lorwyn standard enviorment. With Shards-Conflux-Reborn-11th And whatever the hell LIVE is next October. it will already be heavy Zoo based with the Nayan theme running Rampant, pre-Oct 09, we'll still see HEAVY faeries, 5CC, and Zoo will Emerge i'm almost sure of it. it's probably a Good idea to pick up playsets of the Shocklands now. unless you're a set collector.

haha, glimpse, that is funny. you dont want to print that when heritage druid and nettle sentinel are still legal in standard. it will be like...standard elfball instead of extended elfball.
some of the choices are ludicrous, and red is way too good. shock, seal of fire AND incinerate at common. FTK, fireball at uncommon, and then lavamancer, sharpshooter at rare? G.G. remember how you had creatures, now you dont.
Nope.
1. I fail to see how Jaya would be difficult for a new player to understand. She's no more complicated than Nantuko Disciple was, and the individual effects of her abilities have all been printed in core sets before (heck, the most complicated is Incinerate, and that could very well be back in 11th).
2. Wasn't Shard Phoenix already reprinted in a core set?
3. Thallids are ONLY a no-go because they don't like to mix counter types in core (same reason you probably won't see wither as an evergreen keyword for a while, also why Wall of Roots won't be in 11th). Otherwise, I don't think the ability is overly complex.
4. All of those green guys together? Yeah, that's absurd. Totally agree with you there. Two of them would be pushing it.
5. Also agree that most of the list is just wishful stupidity. They want both Serra Angel and Story Circle at uncommon. That alone would make white ridic in limited.
6. Once vivids, Pool, and filters rotate, I don't think there's a problem with putting in shocklands. They'd serve the same basic use as the painlands, and since they'd be getting reprinted in large quantities (and more available because they'd be regular rares, not mythics), complaints about needing a $300 mana base to compete wouldn't be as prevalent (their price should drop to around what the pains are at, perhaps a little bit higher).
i hoever agree that shockland prices will drop signifigantly, but Based on current Research,

I like how your Core Set has no Grizzly bears in its green common section. (Not even Cylian Elf?)
Plus, as others have pointed out -
*Shocklands
*Vivid Lands
*City of Brass
*Reflecting Pool
.... all in the same set. Are you kidding me?
I love the idea of magic fans getting together and making a 'dream coreset'. However, I would like to see just ONCE, such a group come up with a FEASIBLE 'dream core set' instead of making the most overpowered pile of cardboard ever assembled.
I think that it could not be true, but if it was it should mean that there will be only 2 format based on edition, t2 and t2, ext and legacy will die with this 11th cards.
Even if this turns out to be false, I DO NOT want to see mythic rares ever again in Magic. They were a terrible idea to start out with and there was no point in making them in the first place. Why fix the current rarity system when it ain't broke?
Sure that list would make everyone happy. Its like putting extended into standard. Everything from Eternal Witness to Shocks to Sakura Tribe Elder to Ravenous Baloth to Seal of Fire. All your missing is Mind's Desire and Fetch Lands! If the whole point of core sets where to help the noobs into the game, i would say yay! But unfourtuantly thats the case and reprinting all those INSANE cards would be a bit overwhelming
It is unpolished and I'd be thankful for any suggestions. I tried to give everyone something they would want. Does it seem plausible, or at least feasible?
the common and uncommons oddly enough seem fairly balanced.
the mythic choices are a bit weird though. guile isnt big/splashy, or have anything to do with the storyline. same for hellkite, verdant force and pristine angel.
