It's a topic of debate in the Creative team whether or not to revisit high fantasy. While the genre does have many rabid fans, (including a lot of Magic players), avoiding this old-school look and feel does help Magic set itself apart as a whole new kind of fantasy world. I don't have the answer, but since we're just talking about places we'd like to take a holiday, I'll say that I wouldn't mind visiting Wyn

Did Matt Cavotta just confirm the speculation about Lorwyn bein a "high Fantasy" setting?
I just realized. Mycoloth perfectly demonstrates the devour mechanic.
Mycoloth: NOMNOMNOM on Dragon Fodder.
One turn later, 1/1 turds come out.

btw i did it because i could. i was bored and decided to let my little med-free spree go ahead. I am bipolar, explaining all the drama that ensued after. I have problems.

Jon Finkel can simply walk into Mordor.
"When an artist dies the world loses two lives, that of the artist and that of his unfinished work."
Take heart, good folk, the future may take Magic back to your medieval paradise.
That's three pieces of evidence that Lorwyn (a celtic-ish name) will be high fantasy style. Which also makes me think that dwarves will at least make an appearance.

I'm hoping that they will make it fun, ie by printing leprechauns and hampsters and whatever else they can print to make it fun. I wouldn't mind the rumoured tribal theme if I could just make my goddamn hampster deck.
I noticed that as well, but it though that it was such a blatantly obvious hint that somebody else would beat me to it.
Some of the older cards in my hap-hazard collection (I have around 400 random "old" cards from before 8th edition) have amazing flavour, and didn't really have that distinctive "magic" feel to them. Hopefully I can get that feeling back with Lorwyn.
Plus, I came into magic with Fifth Dawn, so I missed the Odyssey tribal bandwagon.

I miss the times when I was a noob and the elves deck was too strong just because of this beautyful lady
You know what? i had that same problem when i started, it was teh tech to get this beautyful lady and [card=ageless entity]this ugly beatstick out and beat my face in
On Topic: if the tribal rumors are correct and the high fantasy is maybe they will make a knight lord for white:D
The lamps on Wyndmoor Street snuff themselves at midnight and refuse to relight, afraid to illuminate what lies in the darkness.
Just to comment on that... I always thought that was a reference to Ravnica. It sounds very similar to some of the flavor texts we've seen on Rav cards, it references a street with Lamps, and ghosts.

That was my initial reaction too, but the random Y in "Wyndmoor" reminds me of Lorwyn.
Plus lamps don't seem Ravnican to me; it seems like more of a torch-y plane. [/overthought]
... But Lamps are mentioned in the books all over the place. They have indoor plumbing. I'm sure they have street lights.
Yeah, you're right. I didn't read the books and was going mostly off my memory of card art, which apparently was shoddy since upon further review there are severallampspresent.
I dunno. I just remember lamps from the first book. There was at least one 'Film Noir-y' bit with a flickering light on a dark street corner.
But anyway, back on topic... I'm not so sure that Lorwyn is 'High Fantasy'; In fact, I'd be that the people who called it that first misstranslated something. I think its more like to be 'Traditional Fantasy', unfortunately. (Think Seeli, Unseeli, Faeries, ect).
Of course, then again, horned elves isnt overly traditional

but it is peculiar that he just dropped the sentence and paragraph in the middle of a word.
in addition, check out the one thing in the Rumor Mill from TCGPlayer.com:
i'm going out on a limb here and say this is Lorwyn stuff.

Oh, I didn#t even notice it "could" continue with "dsteet."
Anyway, with all the different sources I am betting it is true. But what is "High Fantasy" in case of MTG?

Put me off green for months. Put me off Elves for life. That's probably the main reason that I started playing black. Black kills things.
Lets hope that they do a cycle of new/unused tribes. Rebels >> Soldiers. Kithkin >> Humans. Drawfs >> Golbins. etc.
