Perhaps the chase rare will be something we aren't expecting to see in 10th. Crop Rotation? Manabond? Mirri's Guile? Natural Order? Those would all be fun reprints... but i have my money on Troll.

Crop Rotation? Like we needed another reason to play Life from the Loam and Ghost Quarter, not to mention the secondary market gobbling them up.
And Crop Rotation together with Crucible of Worlds? Come on...
Eww... Manabond is a niche card that was barely played, Crop Rotation is a common, Mirri's Guile is a worse Sensei's Divining Top (not to mention it is a storyline related card, the name, the art).
I honestly forgot all about Natural Order. Assuming that they do put that into 10th along with Verdant Force.... well... sadly i still don't see the card coming back, it would create a steep power level for a base set. Seems sad that Verdant Force has been so underused in competitive tourney's.
Not a hundred percent sure on this but I think Manabond could make for some nice synergy with Madness given pitching your hand but I haven't played an actual game in a few months thanks to college and work. But I doubt it would be in 9th.
As for hippie, isn't he still seeing play in bob control legacy?
Maybe utopia tree again? Though not exactly a chase rare, we saw it in 9th and it's a less powerful version of BoP.
Troll Ascetic will be played, of course. And, it will fetch a good price on the secondary market.
I don't know if it will drive players to buy packs, though. At least, except for savvy competitive players who are buying boxes. It's not classic enough.
Disbelieve if you want, but Berserk could be reprinted without killing Standard. Yeah, I know, Fatal Frenzy. Still.

First off, any one who says plow under isn't a green effect needs to be punched in the throat. Green is growth, green can control growth, accelerating it's own and stunting it's oppositions. That's a pure green thing.
Troll ascetic is good but when 10th comes out will it be useable? Honestly hyppie would be awsome if black had more muscle to it, but black decks right now have no use for it and really it's a shame that such an iconic creature like him is so unplayable in the current type 2.
With thing's as they are now I can see troll comeing in and being adopted by many decks. His staying power is worth his cost and with as much power green has right now he will be a force.
my argument for Troll being a GOOD idea for T2 where Plow Under wasnt is as such...Plow Under IS a back/game-breaking card. ummm, Plow Under while you're in topdeck mode? you lose, just about...Troll, can still be gotten around...I, for one, intend to stand there and let any random 4/4 or 5/5 creature block Troll all day. How many 4/4s are played in Standard right now? Troll + Moldervine Cloak, may be a problem, but green IS the creature color. Blue's the stereotypical hand/control color. If green cant get good creatures, then blue shouldnt get good control. Black shouldnt get good creature removal. White shouldnt get good...what DOES white get anyway thats good? and Red shouldnt get good cheap creatures/burn based removal. Seriously. Incinerate's coming back, let Troll come back, too...maybe Diabolic Edict will come back, along with Remand and StP/Wrath of God? if Troll's gone, I want Incinerate and *** removed from X, as well...Green gets good creatures. Red gets good burn. White I guess gets good mass removal. How do you deal with an Incinerate on a River Boa? how do you deal with a Remand on your Troll Ascetic? *** against your MGA deck? each color should have some cards that cause their opponents at times to throw their hands up in grief. Troll Ascetic gives hope for good stand-alone creatures in T2 to cause opponents hell...
To become a top-tier color, green needs even more creatures like Troll Ascetic, along with disruption (probably land disruption, nothing as powerful as Plow Under. Fallow Earth is more like it, or maybe a green version of Tangle Wire).

Troll will be played. End of debate. Its a sick creature, both defensive and offensive. In MGA it will totally kick ass, Playing it second turn (through elf or something), third turn enchant it. Its GG against most non-wrath decks. It will also buy you tempo against wrath decks. Hopefully you'll manage to hurt your opponent quite a bit before he can afford a wrath. When he tap out for wrath you play an evasion critter. GG once again.
Troll won't be played as much as people think. The reason it was played in T2 was because there was alot of good equip that was in T2 at the time (swords, and later jitte). In extended there is also armadillo cloak. Unless there is something good to equip it it won't be played too much.
That being said it is probably going to be the best green creature in X.

I don't know if that's true or not, and I don't want to go digging through Mirrodin / Kamigawa era decks to analyze that question. Maybe. I hope you're not suggesting that Troll Ascetic is only powerful in combination with equipment / enchantments, though, because that's ridiculous.
Of course Troll Ascetic couldn't survive in a vacuum; like any card, it needs a viable archetype to support it. However, if MGA is viable (which is virtually guaranteed for a good long time), Troll Ascetic will not only be played, but it will be a lynchpin in that deck, and hence a lynchpin in Standard.
Another thought: Upwelling. Hardcore players might not regard it as a chase rare, but it's solid gold for the casual crowd, and would probably fetch $5.00 - $10.00 in the same way Coat of Arms does.

Or maybe card drawing? Harmonize wants to have a word with you
Tangle wire in green would be cool, flavourful and powerful but given that core sets are reprints from other sets, we won't be seeing this in X.
Well, they could "color-shift" Tangle Wire to green with Vanishing in Future Sight....

Hey, you. Yes, you reading this sig. Get off your computer, go find a copy of Skies of Arcadia: Legends and play it. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Ow. Your intention to punch my throat hurts.
Hmm... well, since you believe that's what Growth is, my only counter could be by analogy - to show you that your argument reduces to absurdity...
White is Order. White can control Order, increasing its own and stunting its opponents'.
So White increases the order among itself, but makes its enemies... more... chaotic?
Also... to become a top-tier color, Green needs the following:
Really really good creatures - as discussed already Almost no creature that is now or ever has been really counts. Eternal Witness and Troll are the *only* examples I know of - and I'm including the history of the game as I know it.
Actual growth mechanics - Ohran Viper is like... one example of good Green card draw. Harmonize isn't Green draw. Green should have Call of the Wild... but like.... way more aggressively costed. Green needs card draw to outpace removal and discard. It needs acceleration to outpace countermagic and LD. It needs to be able to just make stuff. R&D should stop holding back on what's too powerful and just make something awesome. When you consider it's a game of resource management, and the only thing Green can do is make more resources, you're damned sure you need to play up that growth theme. A LOT.
Green should *MUST* be able too make something out of nothing - to pull animal matter out of the air. Growth can only compete against disruption, removal, control, and rules, if it is *truly* rampant. 'Rampant' - look that up.
Oh, and, o'course, exploration into whatever it is that spawned Dosan the Falling Leaf would be cool.

better yet, how about they just reprint natural order? That would satisfy everyone.
I have a sinking feeling that green is gonna get crap to replace birds. I'd be pretty happy with natural order myself (especially if they would print some green finishers that were as good as the ones other colors get), but I'm not sure they are all that concerned with givin' green some love these days.
The article clearly shows that blue is the "top tier". It is a common misunderstanding that there is a top tier and then exceptions, when being top tier IS the exception. The graph shows that Blue is played more often, White, Red and Green are average, and black is played least. This means that:
1. Blue is Top Tier.
2. Red, White, and Green are average.
3. Black is Bottom Tier.
So while your statement was true, it doesn't have any bearing on what green needs to be top tier.
But its true, Troll Ascetic needs something other than Blanchwood Armor to wear to dinner if he's going to make a major impact.
Green's not doing terrible, it hasn't been for a long time, being prominent in various G/X decks since Mirrodin block. For those pushing for MonoGreen as a viable deck, well, it already is pretty viable. Green is doing fine, it may not be the top color of the format, but it's close, and it's definitely had it's turn in the sun recently (Tooth and Nail, Sakura-Tribe Elder based G/x Decks from kamigawa.).
Problem is, Green went from being really terrible back in the day, to pretty bad, to average and then stopped. Green never really goes above average, at least not for long like the other colors do. To boot, it gets the worst finishers of any color...
I think that green losing birds is fine, much like blue losing counter spell. Problem is, blue was really really good before it lost counterspell and is pretty darn good right now.
Green is decent right now... and will probably get little to make up for the loss of birds. Green needs to be gaining appropriate methods for card advantage and disruption as well as better finishers, not losing powerful, staple cards...
Birds were by no means broken in any way, just not color appropriate.

Correct.
I think the troll will be great in the scryb force deck, btw. So even if green gets nothing else, he'll be a nice replacement for plaxmanta.
