That ability would be gay. You could shove any card with bloody price into any deck, and beat the hell out of everyone-including yourself. I agree with Enemywithin. And Rakdos would be sac itself:deal damage. It is black/red right? Plus the Rakdos dudes get Thrulls, so bloody price will NEVER happen(at least not in this block)
Bloody Price - X ( You may pay X life rather than paying this card's mana cost )
something lidat. wadcha thing?
Oh God, no! That would mean ANY color can play Rakdos cards! It'll probably have stuff to do with sacrifice or, like you said, life loss. What exactly it will do I have no clue.

I really like this idea... it's basically backwards convoke... ekovnoc... okay bad joke. But the idea of... well you can get it cheaper but you have to pay in blood, or you can save your blood but it'll cost more feels very B to me. However, I'm not feeling red from any kind of simple life for cost reduction. Where's the recklessness and ultimate pursuit of absolute freedom and chaos in a simple cost redux? The more I think about it I just can't make cost redux's fit into red. Red accelerates quick mana Seething Song style... it doesn't reduce costs to make things cheaper, it makes mana to play stuff NOW. What I can see though, is mana storage. Ghetto thrull style. So how's about this:
Offering <X> - pay X life, sacrifice this permanent: Add mana to your mana pool equal to the sacrificed permanent's mana cost.
So they could reprint a Blood Pet variant with Offering 0, so that it wouldn't suck, but they could also print a... say 3/3 for 1RB with Offering 5. To me, it's a perfect blend of black's "i'll give anything for what I want" and red's shortsightedness and lack of attention span. "What, I can dump off my little goblin for a big demon? DONE! ouch!...that hurt!"BR, baby.

As it was for golgari, (green is mana accel, black is death, cost, sac) doesn't mean the the mech has to be sac/mana accel it just means that it may be useful with sacrifices.
right, the ability.... does it add 5 mana of B or R to your mana pool, or [B/R][B/R][B/R][B/R][B/R] to your mana pool?
cannot be added to mana pools as far as I understand, and even if it could what would be the functional difference to 5 mana in any combination of and/or :symr:?
i really think it's going to be about blowing stuff up. And what that could be while tied in with the whole mana accelaration is something like seimic spike. blow a land up....get mana for a little more. besides. there is a pattern out there that I have been looking at for a while now. The quick kills allotted for B/G and B/W, petrefy and mortify? They have always had a second thing to die, artifact, enchantment. I think land would be next. It can't be instatn or sorcery for reasons unnessary to go into detail with. But honestly. I can really see the whole land destruction deck coming back even stronger then before. Hell, right now I have a land destruction deck based off of type 2 legal cards that is pretty mean. not teir 2 or 1 but mean.
I think that paying life at some point will be part of the Rakdos' mechanic, although I kind of doubt that it will be straight-up kicker, ala Phyrexian Scuta. It may end up being something like: Whenever ~ goes to a graveyard from play, you may pay X life and do something. It's not quite haunt, because that's CIP and haunted creature going to graveyard, and it's not really a graveyard effect like dredge, since nothing happens once it's dead.
So, brokenness or not aside, maybe something like these: Bloodburn ZombieRB
Creature - Zombie Berserker
[Mechanic] 5: Target player loses 5 life. (When ~ goes to a graveyard from play, you may pay 5 life. If you do, target player loses 5 life.)
2/1
Rakdos Assassin1RB

2/2
Whenever ~ goes to a graveyard from play, you may pay X life and do something
Seems too much like haunt (I know you said it isn't quite haunt, but its too close imo). I do think it might involve paying life to achieve something, but not sure how (everything I come up with seems off).
RED- Move hastily, with little concern for those in your way. Destroy those in foresight and forget the rest.
BLACK- Power at any expence, as quickly and painfully as possible. Cause others to suffer through powerful disruption techniques.
The only thing that makes sense to me is doing something painful in order to get things into play faster. However, it should be an optional cost at the same time, as black tends to thinks things through moreso than red, though most of the time you'd rather play them for the faster, more red version, of the ability.
I could see cards with some activated abilities that would be copied whenever you happen whenever you peform a certain action, similar to Grave Pact. The mechanic would reward you for hurting yourself, which would fit flavor as you sacrificing for the demon lord Rakdos. Perhaps something like this...
Rakdos Guy :1mana::symr::symb:
Creature -- Human Shaman
:1mana:, :symtap:: Rakdos Guy deals 1 damage to target creature or player and 1 damage to you. Painplay -- Dealt combat damage (You may put a copy of this creature's activated ability onto the stack whenever you are dealt combat damage). 1/1
Or...
Rakdos Demonspawn :3mana::symr::symb:
Creature -- Demon Berzerker
Haste
:symr::symb:: Rakdos Demonspawn gets +X/+0, where X is the number of cards in your graveyard. Then Rakdos Demonspawn gets -Y/-0 where Y is the number of cards in your hand. Painplay -- Discard a card (You may put a copy of this creature's activated ability onto the stack whenever you discard a card). 3/2
It may need to worded a little differently, but I think you'll get the general idea.
And if instead we focus on red and blacks high tempo cards, I stand firmly by my Pact mechanic.
Paying life for free creatures is broken. Too bad because I would love to see HATRED (BROKEN) return. Cant have Sacrifice for mana because Im sure WOTC does not want to fuel Psychotog as much as dredge already has.

i really doubt rakdos will have a land destruction theme... if there would be any guild with LD theme it would have been gruul... both green and red historically have LD spells, and the whole thing about the gruul philosophy of razing city blocks, living there for a little while, then razing some more, just seems like it would foster a LD theme. And all gruul got in the way of LD was a single mediocre card. So, im really thinking that wizards just doesnt want a lot of LD in the environment right now...
The simplest implementation of all of this is a reduction of the colorless mana cost for some amount of life paid.
Pblaze XBR
Sorcery
Painlifenecromancydarknesssacrificecast 3 (This spell costs 1 less to play for each 3 life you pay as you play it.)
