The radiate mechanic seems awful weird for a red mechanic. There's only so many effects red might want to give to all of its creatures (haste, first/double strike, +X/0). This gives me two thoughts. Either radiate will say all creatures of that color (so there could be say 3R: 2 damage to target creature, radiate), or radiate will be used as a drawback for a burn type spell, such as follows:
Fan of Flames R
Sorcery
Fan of flames deals 3 damage to target creature
Radiate
So it provides for a creature only lightning bolt, but if the target shares a color with any of your dudes they get caught in the crossfire.
Thoughts?

Your example card seems like it would get sideboarded in once you know you're in different colors than your opponent. In that case it's one mana for a 3 damage pyroclasm that doesn't hurt your stuff. Buh-roken. I think the idea is mainly to pump your own creatures, as with the white protection spell in the spoiler. For haste to be effective as a radiate effect you'd have to have played a lot of creatures that turn (and of the same color) but +X/0 and first strike would be cool.
Who knows though, it could be an interesting sort of unfocused red burn.
I, too, am struggling with how Radiate precisely integrates the ethes (ethoses) of white and red. I suppose "reckless mass effect" is a property of red spells, and its reckless nature is tempered by the structure and order of white, leaving a "limited mass effect." I would guess we'd see both 'positive' and 'negative' Radiate effects; a lot of it would depend on the game situation and the deck design, but self-harm is an occasional province of red and wouldn't seem wrong for a R/W mechanic.
Wildfire393, your "Fan of Flames" card does seem a little too powerful. It's more likely we'd see something like Yamabushi's Storm but limited to one color with Radiate... or, better yet, a First Volley with Radiate. Ooh, that would be one sweet card!
Also: Radiate seems like some kind of angelic effect, rather than a mechanic that would be wielded by mere soldiers. First strike, doublestrike, bushido, damage prevention, haste, and vigilance are explainable in terms of human warriors, healers, weapons masters, etc... but I'm not sure I can imagine a pikeman with the Radiate ability.
It seems like Radiate is an ability that will end up just benefitting your creatures. Radiate, to me, seems like something that would say "Radiate: All creatures you control that share a color with the target also gain the effect". I agree with whoever spotted the possible err with the white protection card w/ radiate because as speculated you could give your opponent's creatures protection. BUT, were it all on creatures you control... we could see some real interesting stuff...
That One Card! XR
Instant
Target creature you control gets +X /+0 until EOT.
Radiate
EDIT: This card probably won't be printed because it's strictly better than Enrage.
That Other Card! 3W
Instant
Target creature you control gets First Strike and protection from the color of your choice until EOT.
That Insane Card! 4WR
Instant
Target creature you control gains haste, double strike, and +3/+0 until EOT. Sacrifice that creature at EOT.
Radiate
The mostly red/white abilities are:
Haste (R )
First Strike
Double Strike
Protection (W )
+x/+0 (R )
All of which are combat-related abilities... so my guess is most cards with radiate will be instants. What would be really cool though would be a Whipcorder-esque card with a tap ability that radiates...
That One Dude! 2WR
Creature - Duder Guy (R)
/t: Target creature you control gains +1/+0 and haste until EOT. Radiate.
From what we've seen it will only affect your creatures and only thise that share a colour with the target. There will probably not be many aggressive radiate spells because of it's potebtial to become abusive. I imagine the best we'll see will be something like: RW1 Instant target creature gets +2/+1 and First Strike until End of Turn. Radiate.

I'm old school, about as OLD school as they get. think 4th Edition/Ice Age old school. Unfortunatley in the "Real world" you cant Incinerate your bank manager and sadly now I have joined the ranks of the older population, and my time is taken up by things like reasearching Mortgage Refinance Rates and where to get the best possible mortgage quotes. I have however discovered the joys of Online Forex Trading which at least allows me to keep the bills in check!
Am I the only one who thinks radiate spells make most sense in a mono-colored deck? I mean, it might be amusing to play it on a gold guy, and then all of your guys in two colors get the ability, but with the exception of radiate spells that actually cost both R and W, it seems like you'd be best off playing a red one in a monored deck - so it always hits all of your guys, and a white one in a monowhite deck for the same reason.
erm. To note. the First card in this thread acts just like a one sided pyroclasm against most decks. I don't think it's costed correctly
3RR maybe. Pyroclasm deals 2 damage evenly regardless of color. This probably single-handedly wipes out the opponent's board. If that's gonna happen it needs to cost more than 1 and definately should be costed more than 2. Plague Wind costs 9 doesn't it? This is definately on par with Plague Wind against most decks. I mean I might be hyping that up a little, but it really is very powerful.
So we have Haste and Protection. Surely there are other things we can do. Savage Beating gave creatures Double Strike. We could see something like that but maybe only with First strike like you guys said. I'd definately like a "Gain control of target creature" style of card a la blind with anger, threaten, Grab the reins.
And a Warriors Honor would be cool.
Path of Anger's Flame at 1R is hot. So is Warrior's Honor at 1W.
Heh. I'd be down for a Burst of Energy.
"Boros Burst" - W
Instant
Untap target creature and each creature that shares a color with it.
I think they could cost it at that mana since Call to Glory untaps all the creatures you control for just one more mana.
Radiance makes it possible to reduce the casting cost of any spell that would normally affect all creatures by limiting it to one creature and then to all creatures that share a creature type with it. However, while that seems to be true for cards you play on your creatures will it be the same for creatures your opponent controls? To me the Radiance cards they have so far aren't very aggressive (though that Radiance Protection card will probably be a high pick as it's a very good win condition)
Take the Pyroclasm example. If you do Pyroclasm and limit it to one creature then it's fine. Doing 3 damage is silly powered. Flamebreak deals 3 damage to each creature and other stuff and still costs RRR. That other stuff doesn't really cost anything extra though so Flamebreak if you removed a red in the mana cost would be 2RR or 4R. In that case a Radiance that did 3 damage would cost 1RR or 3R. I could live with that. Of course that's if the theory stands. Then Pyroclasm could be reduced to R
Volley of Fists - R
Sorcery
Volley of Fists deals 2 damage to target creature.
Radiance.
Can we expect to see another Demystify spell? Or because destroying artifacts is also a red thing can we see an echoing calm variant/hullbreach hybrid?
Boros Judgment - w/r W
Instant
Destroy target artifact or enchantment.
Radiance
or
Boros Calming - W
Instant
Destroy target enchantment.
Radiance
We've already seen smash so maybe they'll just reprint "Destroy target enchantment. Draw a card"
What about a Radiate card along the lines of Relentless Assault or Godo?
Boros War Cry
Instant
1RR
Untap target creature that attacked this turn. After this main phase, there is an additional combat phase followed by an additional main phase.
Radiate
What about a Radiate card along the lines of Relentless Assault or Godo?
Boros War Cry
Instant
1RR

Radiate
Well... In that case you can make it a Sorcery.
When you said that I instantly thought of Wave of Indifference.
Taking Down Arms - R
Sorcery
Target creature can't block this turn. Radiance.
It'd be cool to combine bleed and radiance though.
Legion Strike - 1W
Instant
Target creature gains First Strike until end of turn. Radiance.
If R was used to pay for Legion Strike that creature gets Double Strike instead.
In order to correctly predict how to cost Radiance let's look at the information we have.
There's a Radiance Spell that gives a creature you control Protection from the color of your choice. Fortunately we have some good cards to compare it to.
To make it better than Blessed breath we give it +1 mana.
To make it worse than Blessing, we take away 1 mana.
If we look at Kamigawa and Mirroding and Onslaught we know they want a card that deals damage to creatures. We've seen Flamebreak and Scattershot and Slice and Dice and lots of other neat little damage things
I've already given my opinion on a variant of Pyroclasm though I think it's still too powerful.
But I've discussed this with Crimson and we think that there's a possibility of a Wrath effect.
I take it to mean Chastise -Life gain.
We already know that "Destroy Target Attacking Creature" costs 2W.
If my theory is correct then we have to add a colored mana or up to 2 colored mana to the card in order to give it radiance. So my guess for a wrath style combat trick (which is totally in flavor for the Boros) is
Slaughter - 2 W/r? W/r?
Instant Rare
Destroy target attacking creature and each attacking creature that shares a color with it.
At uncommon I could conceive this to be 4WW. If it were common it'd be 5WW (an instant Rout but that lets you regenerate)
They are printing Smash so I doubt they'd print a Radiance Smash variant without the card draw.
What are some other White and Red staples for the base set of a block?
It seems like Radiate is an ability that will end up just benefitting your creatures.
I don't believe we've seen enough cards to make this assumption quite yet. It seems like a strong mechanic, and there's no reason why an appropriately costed card could be created that caused a negative effect to your opponent.
Black negative effect - 2BB
Sorcery
Target creature gets -1/-1 till end of turn
Do we know for sure that's the proper wording for Radiate? If it's possible that it's "Target creature and each creature that player controls that shares a color with it" or "Target creature and each creature that shares a color with it" then it can be more aggressive.
Hmm...
Spiritual Cascade - 1W
Instant
Target creature you control and each creature that shares a color with it gains "Whenever this creature deals damage this turn you gain that much life."
I thought the Radiate card we had so far was a Protection card. They have to word those cards "target creature you control" so that's why I thought its radiate ability was worded like that. Making it only able to target your creatures narrows the ability a LOT
Fan of Flames R
Sorcery
Fan of flames deals 3 damage to target creature
Radiate
