lol, i say name matters and multi-colored.
one strange person suggested no basic lands, but that has gotta be one of the most insane things i have heard of.
banding was too confusing, unless they make the rules not confusing it won't be back, hopefully though poision will make it back.
back to my name matters idea. one thing i said on 'news is that name matters would mean the set wouldn't be totaly tribal, but few understood what i ment, so in essence: In Onslaught the creature types mattered, and practically every thing in that set, creatures, other spells, artifacts, were all geared towards the tribal theme, BUT in name matters the tribal theme would remain mainly inside of the creatures effecting the other creatures. suggestion (with a better name than "orangutan-clan" this time) is this:
Eagle Guild Flightmage 3UU
Creature - Human Mage
UUU, TAP: All creatures with Eagle Guild in their name gain flying until the end of turn.
1/2
Arishi, Eagle Guildmaster 4UUU
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard
2UUUU, TAP: All creatures with Eagle Guild in their name are unblockable until the end of the turn.
3/3
meh, not much better, but still better, either way that would be an example of what i am talking about.
I would think that guilds would be something like a guild consisting of creatures [of perhaps the same creature type? maybe not.] in all different colours. So for example, there would be some kind of guild consisting of a white wizard, a blue wizard, a black wizard, a red wizard and a green wizard.
That way, it's multicolour, and practically tribal. Maybe something like the Apprentices/Masters, etc. cycles? It would be not quite gold, but still retain that gold feel. For example Thornscape Apprentice, Thornscape Master, Thornscape Battlemage or something.
A guild I guess would be cool(er). I just dont see it. I see an invasion block style, mixed with something like masques, because of the city's and things. They sort of feel the same land/story(?) wise. Invasion block just because it was a really great, smooth block, with a lot of gold cards.
Brian Tinsman, Set Designer :?mana::snow::snow:
Legendary Creature – Human Designer (MR)
Brian Tinsman, Set Designer can only be cast during the third set of a block.
When Brian Tinsman, Set Designer enters the battlefield, ignore all flavor and mechanics of the first two sets in the block. "Ok so what do we have here... gothic horror? Scrap it. Expand the Devine Vs. Demonic duel deck to 244 cards and print it!"
2/2
the only confirmed cards so far are bop's and the new invitational card which was handed in as BB for a 2/1 which in the upkeep makes you draw an extra card at the cost of revealing it a losing life equal to its casting cost.
i just love the name. Ravnica: City of Guilds.
with a name like that, its got to be a cool set i hope at least.
i hope they have good flavour for it, and something new.

I think you're definitely on to something here... :yikes:
Despite the song and dance they (Randy & MaRo) gave us months ago about why they decided to do the 'Class/Race' thing and the soooo many good reasons to do it....this has got to be the REAL reason why they did it. In light of your theory, a block with that type of focus would make perfect sense now.
Kudos to you sir. As I've been predicting for a while now, I still think this block will resemble The Dark more than others (like MM, for instance)....hope I'm right too!

Eh, i would hope for something... slow.... very, very slow. I am so sick of games that are over before you have time to lay more then 6 land. So i am hoping.. for a ... NOT MM-ish block. I do not remeber the dark very well, but it has to be slower then Mercadian masques and Mirrodin... probably the most hated set for me.

Where to I was once the purveyor of much merryment, now I'm just a complete bastard.
Yes. A friend of mine designed a nice cycle of these types of lands for a set of cards we created last year.
Imagine a series of Uncommon dual lands, not unlike the Torment 'Tainted' series...but without the ability to tap for :1mana:. That's the only drawback.
This land produces...
White & Green as long as you control a Plains
White & Blue as long as you control a Plains
Blue & White as long as you control an Island
Blue & Black as long as you control an Island
Black & Blue as long as you control a Swamp
Black & Red as long as you control a Swamp
Red & Black as long as you control a Mountain
Red & Green as long as you control a Mountain
Green & Red as long as you control a Forest
Green & White as long as you control a Forest
Sweet, eh? I soooooooo wish they'd make duals like this.
Green will probably be tamed down. Meaning less green stompy creatures and more green sneaky creatures. Indicating the return of elveses, and since its a city, theres got to be houses... Elvish house party is a definite reprint here. Possibly they hold 'Land Aid' concerts in Ravnika.
Green creatures may be exotic creatures kept in Ravnikan Zoos which escape... Either way I doubt we'll see something along the lines of Moss Kami or Fangren Hunter.
Although there should be a green-based guild...
They are less likely to have full on Name interactions than mechanical relations, for example Samurai, (apart from being samurai) are united in Bushido. Moonfolk are united in their return of land magic. Possibly green giuld united in their 'amount of land', or 'discard a land' magic, black guild with 'Sacrifice a creature/discard a creature card' red with self burn, Blue with Discard to top of library/self milling, white with opponents gain life/resources?
Has the possibility arose that this will be a completley-human block? that this plane is exculivley human and that we will be dealing with some more " Human-Buearocrat" etc?

I could see green showing up in kind of a "revolt of nature" type situation where the dryads and treefolk and what not get angry because all the forests are getting destroyed and so they go to take down the city or something. (a la the part in The Two Towers where the treefolk mess stuff up) Maybe green could be the "bad guys" this time too, that would be sweet.
I hear it's White... and in a set I'm making Green and White are the bad guys... well, Greens leader is bad and the rest just follow him as the leader is a Prophit... and White... well... shes just mean.

Here's what I think:
White- Either Soldiers or Aven. Oh yes Clerics.
Blue- What else but Wizards? Oh, and maybe Merfolk since they look evolved humans that lived underwater for too long
Black- we may see Zombies , Assassins, and the like
Red- Dwarves. They look like human midgets.
Green- Elves will make a comeback. I'm feeling it. Dryads as well.

WTF!?
Ofcourse you feel elves coming "back". It's been what, like two blocks since Elves where big (there are plenty of elves in Mirrodin, but they weren't big)? Elves never stay gone long... COK is like the only block in a while without a single elf. Ravnica needs a couple of elves... what other green creature can operate a guild withen a city... Elementals?
STFU.
Flame warning. arch_wooohh stated his opinion, which he has every right to do. And as for you, you don't tell anyone to shut up, ever.
Does anyone else see Goblins sitting this one out? I love them, but they're beginning to get a bit tiresome and also diluted a bit with so much representation lately.
An option for red Human class is Shaman. They've been slowly (and rather quietly) establishing that class for humans since Mirrodin block. It'd be nice to see some more.
