Given the unoriginal sounding name, I expect it is by Wizkids, who recently published the Justice League Strategy Game. Wizkids do a lot of licensed products.
Not a fan. Having other ways to play Magic (like EDH) is fine by me, but this is taking things a little too far.
YES! AGREE! NEVER RELEASE OTHER THINGS I DON'T LIKE!!!
RAAAARARRARARRARARRARA!!
Shut up.
Am I not allowed to have my own opinion? I just feel like Wizards trying to turn Magic into a giant franchise is making Magic inaccessible to people like me who aren't willing to immerse themselves in nerd culture. If Magic becomes a mainstream thing, it will get ridiculed by the people who already ridicule things like Pokemon, and a lot of my friends are people like that. I play Magic because I like the game itself, not because of the storyline or the flavor of the cards. I don't really care about that. I don't want to have to give up something I love.

You're certainly allowed an opinion, but it's off-putting when you say that no one should get something because you aren't interested in it yourself. I see your line of reasoning from this second post, but it isn't going to go down like that. Let me try to assuage your fears.
I assume that when you think of a board game, you think 'something like Monopoly.' Monopoly is a certainly a household name. It is also archaic design and not at all representative of the board game hobby today. Designer board gaming is itself a niche hobby which things like Monopoly and Scrabble aren't really a part of. If we're considering strictly board games, and not Trading Card Games, Role-Playing Games, and Miniatures, it is definitely more niche than Magic. Magic is actually a pretty huge name already, releasing a board game is not going to make it any more mainstream.
In addition, thousands of board games are released each year, with only a few making a big splash. If it does, it is almost guaranteed to be a respectable game. People's standards are much higher for what they'll play in a board game because there are so many options. As a precedent, Lords of Waterdeep is a board game based in the Dungeons and Dragons universe. It is considered a very successful game in the board gaming industry, but it is far from eclipsing D&D in fame. It is also generally considered a good gateway game into board gaming (specifically worker placement), and receives very little ridicule.

Thanks.
Yeah, my original comment was worded pretty badly. I can see why someone would take offense to it.
This. Lords of Waterdeep was such an unexpected gem, it's now on high rotation in my play choices. Hopefully we'll get something similar (in quality, not necessarily in design) for Magic.
Absolutely! My group LOVES Lords of Waterdeep! I think there is a good portion of people who like to play MtG and board games, this can hopefully join our other favorites in the rotation.
I'm part of a group that Magics and board games. Its a strong overlap.
Im torn in between "you wont have my money: just reprint more stuff for modern and shut up" and " TAKE ALL OF MY MONEY, let me build a Myr army".
If its non-collectible (like you get a core and expansions), I might be interested. If you have to put down millions to get singles and stuff, no.
This.
So, since we have no idea and because things get sold out and become instantly $$$$$, I have one on preorder with my game store. Better safe than sorry at this point.
As for what type of game, my hopes are for: solo option, campaign mode, and no dice.
Here's a quick pic from Essen. I looks like it'll be a minis-based game like Wizkids' Batman Strategy Game (thanks Andrew!). Pretty sure that's a Chandra.

Does this count as reasoning? You do not have an opinion you have some kind of feeling built on baseless prognostication. Not willing to immerse yourself into nerd culture? have you seen the web site you are on? You are fooling yourself. And there is absolutely no reasoning into why when WOTC prints a board game you all the sudden have to be a cast member of the Big Bang Theory in order to keep playing magic. It is so silly that I cannot believe I am taking time to counter your argument.
Your belief that the printing of the board game means you will have to "give up something you love" Is so ridiculous, I can easily point out that you really must not "love" it very much if the threat of some of your friends making fun of you over it will cause you to give it up for all of eternity. I can also ask you to support your claim that by printing a board GAME you will somehow lose the card GAME that you love. You have made no arguments to support your opinion.

Awww... look at that miniature fire cracker there.
I am wishing that there'd be original arts for this and stuff but looking like they're gonna be re-using assets (Chandra looking like the Pyromancer version in this sneak peek).

First come the goblins. Hordes of them. But soon the ramp produced by xenagos attracts monstrous token-producing hydras. Towering over the battlefield, these 12-headed killing machines are protected 2 archetypes of endurance as they crash any resistence left
As long as the gameplay isn't miserable and the expansions aren't TCG based, where we have to spend money on booster packs for the board game to hope we get the ability card so our game pieces aren't garbage.

I actually prefer them to use known arts (I mean, I'd hate to look at a miniature and say "Is that supposed to be Garruk? Really?").
Give me cool miniatures and a fun gameplay and I'm sold.
I doubt that Wizkids have anything to do with this. I makes no sense that Hasbro, a company who already historically makes boardgames, would sell the boardgame rights to one of their most successful IPs to an entirely different company.
I was sad when Hasbro bought and shut down development on Heroscape, so rolling that into a Magic game that way you're suggesting might be cool. Heck, I'd even get down for just some Magic themed Heroscape armies/figures. They could do races and iconic legendaries to hype up the brand and individual characters a little better.
I'm glad someone else misses Heroscape! I've got two giant plastic boxes full of minis and board pieces sitting in the storage closet of my apartment.
In any case, I'm excited for this Board Game. Board Gaming has gotten really popular in my group over the last couple years as more people get married and we expand our social circle.
I just hope they won't ride the trend of paid extensions. I'm wondering if it won't be something like the warcraft board game, you have your hero and find spells and equipments, or something more like Settlers of Katane where ou manage your resources (mana colors), or a mix of both

It's not at all outside the realm of possibilities. Check out this article from ICV2 in which they detail the new partnership between WotC and WizKids (mind you, I'm not really a fan of this move, but time will tell whether it was a good decision or not).
Here's the crux of it: "A license to WizKids fits with WotC’s overall strategy of concentrating on its core brands and product lines: Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons (and, formerly, Kaijudo)." [lol Kaijudo]
I'll keep researching to see if I find any more evidence to support the argument one way or another (or, I guess, wait till Essen lol).
They've already announced a D&D expansion (Wizards property) to Dice Masters (WizKids collectable Dice game). Other Wizards + WizKids collaborations don't seem too unlikely.
If it is what it's looking to be, that's hugely disappointing. The Justice League strategy board game was pretty awful and this will probably have the same gameplay. I was really hoping for a Euro game with Magic branding, like Lords of Waterdeep.

We can always hope for a Magic-branded version of Mage Knight.

Yeah, my original comment was worded pretty badly. I can see why someone would take offense to it.
Though again, I think a pure Ravnica-based board game would be super interesting.

With WotC trying to branch out the brand, a free-roaming RPG just has to be in the cards (if you'll pardon my unintended pun).

Secondly, I really hope that this isn't a Wizkids game.
Uril, the Miststalker RGW -- Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre C -- Vhati il-Dal BG -- Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer RW -- Animar, Soul of Elements URG
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker R -- Maga, Traitor to Mortals B -- Ghave, Guru of Spores BGW -- Sliver Hivelord WUBRG
I will be extremely surprised if the game releases without a regular MTG foil promo card included
