I am not even upset about it... Knowing WOTC I should have seen it coming. Saying the print would be limited its a thing... But saying they ran out the very first night means they won't even have it for sale on their site as they couldn't even keep up with for the second day because of their screw up, maybe if they had limited it at 1 per person like some other items sold at Hasbro...
This... If Hasbro restocks their booth in the next few days then we're good to go. But then again... if they are out of them, they're out. It's not like they're going to print more to sell in a day.
It's not uncommon to see exclusive items sell out for conventions of all types. Heck, it happens at GenCon all the time. Last year I missed out on a hot new board game release because the early birds and media types bought all the copies before the actual public could get into the dealers room. However, it's worth noting that in those cases that sometimes the company will overnight a bunch more into the convention and by the end it's restocked. However, being something as limited as this... I think we might very well have to wait till the website launches the product.
Hoenstly, it's frustrating to see exclusives go to scalpers, but it's also a limited edition collector's item and Hasbro's fault for creating it in the first place. Sure it sucks that people are scooping them up to resell, but I can't be sure anyone wouldn't do the same in their shoes given thee circumstances.
This should have been limited to 1 per customer and time constrained or raffled. It's just foot traffic math. We can all say various sources are at vault, but in this case the retailer should have done a better job to ensure a positive con experience for folks attending. This was a selling point on MTG's website to go to the Hasbro booth, and before noon on Friday they are out.
Instead we see 6-8 listings from the same seller on eBay with the same picture posted all at the same time. At a profit of ~150-200 bucks, that's between 900 and 1600 profit (minus fees). There are other ways to give money away to a select few than that.

It is unfortunate, but whoever lined up for hours to get these can do whatever they want with them. This is the name of the game for every exclusive at SDCC, which is an expensive event to attend. I don't blame anyone who paid the premium to be there for making money where they can to cover their expenses.
So now that acquiring these first-hand is no longer a relevant topic of discussion, what do you financial speculator's imagine the short-term ceiling on these will be?

Exactly, people don't understand that some guys go to this convention to pay off their mortgage or whatever. They take it SO seriously and their livelihood depends on it.
Contrast that to someone who just wants sweet planeswalkers and you get trouble. You really have to be vigilant (pun intended) at the Hasbro booth and don't put up with any shennanegans.
"If fetch lands are reprinted I really believe they will be in allied colors (aka Onslaught fetches). If the fetch lands are reprinted you better believe that we'll all be fetching up basics. This would lead me to believe that the set after THS may have a reprint as the temples can't be fetched but it's pure speculation." - posted 03/22/2014 proved correct during Khans spoiler season.
"The set releases for fall 2015 (Blood, Sweat and Tears) and fall 2016 (Lock, Stock and Barrel). One or both of those 2 blocks (I'm betting) are going to contain either Fetch reprints or (more likely) Filter reprints. Filter lands still need a reprint. They are getting pretty high up there and it's been longer than ZEN so it makes a little more sense that Filter lands would see print earlier that fetches." - posted 03/22/2014 proved incorrect about filters coming earlier than fetches, still pending on filters in Origins block.

If this is the ENTIRE stock that sold out in 1-(2) days and assuming that there are no more releases of this product... my guess is that it will EASILY hit 100+ per planeswalker. Garruk will be high and so will Jace, maybe 150 each Chandra will be up there too, liliana in 4th and poor ajani will be like 99. I could easily see the set, unopened, going for 600-800 dollars 3-5 years from now.

My only hope is Wizards messed up the shipments, wasn't able to ship out all the product in time so it ends up on their website next week.
It reads like they were supposed to have sold a fixed number of sets every day, but instead made the entire allotment available on day 1. So as far as the con allotment goes, that's all gone.
I do not recall, however, Hasbro saying anything about the online store sale being dependent on remaining SDCC inventory. It mentioned needing time to count remaining inventory, but there could be additional inventory set aside for online sales. Based on how quickly they sold out at the con, I can't imagine they'd have set aside a lot of inventory, but there's still hope.
Weren't these $65? If so, $13 for a special edition foil Planewalker is pretty good deal.
I think it's a bit greedy on their part. FTV has an MSRP of $35 for a lot more foils, some with exclusive art, some that have never been foiled before, and some that have high utility. $65 for a set that includes 3 ho-hum walkers (possibly 4, since we don't quite know how Chandra will pan out) and 1 casual-good walker in Garruk 4.0 feels a bit outrageous, uniqueness be damned. It's not as though the process to create these was that much more expensive.
Exactly, people don't understand that some guys go to this convention to pay off their mortgage or whatever. They take it SO seriously and their livelihood depends on it.
I wasn't thinking of something that extreme. I was thinking more along the lines of someone buying a few exclusives just to pad the cost of the trip (flight, hotel, daily expenditures). But yeah, there are indeed some people who live (poorly) from flipping collectibles.

No, all this would accomplish is making these even more expensive to acquire. The MSRP on these is already pretty ridiculous, as far as I'm concerned.

65 dollars for this is perfectly reasonable. I was ready to buy a few for me and my friends.
300+ isn't reasonable.
Of course it is unreasonable, and of course that is your opinion and you are perfectly entitled to it. Just keep in mind almost every time you've probably said that in the past about cards that were initially "expensive" but destined to be eternally popular (Goyf when it was Standard legal at $25, Jace the Mind Sculptor when he was Standard legal at $50, Dark Confidant when he was $15, Voice of Resurgence when it presold for $15, Thoughtseize when it was $10, dual lands, etc etc), you've probably wound up regretting not taking the initial investment when their prices ballooned out of control after a couple months/years.
Or at least I have Not gonna miss the boat this time.

Except this situation isn't really the same. These aren't new cards that could wind up being staples in formats. These are just special edition cards.
I must say that hearing that WOTC/Hasbro blew through their entire allotment in a matter of a few hours is very disappointing. I really wanted to order a set. Yes, there are Ebay listings, but paying 250-300 dollars (or more) is completely unacceptable to me.
I bit. I want Chandra, Lilly, and Ajani for my cube. I don't run the new Garruk or Jace 3, so those will be sold on E-bay some time in the future. Seeing as how they are the two most popular PWs in the set, I expect to get my money back on them. We shall see.
these sets are sky-rocketing... I saw a few go for about ~250$, and after the information that they're all gone, the prices started to go above ~300$. Assuming no more will be available, they will go for even more in time
1st: Now that I almost certainly will not be able to get this online (will still check just in case), I suddenly do not care about it. I was not buying for collecting or even "pimping" but just because they are neat and wanted to play them. Now that I can't I will just play the normal versions with just as much joy.
2nd: People charging $300+ for these is not unreasonable, it is the people that are willing to pay that and validate the price that are being unreasonable (from my point of view).
I just paid $300 for one just in case the price continues to trend upward. We lined up at 4 AM this morning to try to get one for retail and didn't make it...pretty ridiculous. Decided it was worth it to get it and feel better about the experience rather than walking away bitter, or more bitter than we already are.
I collect planeswalkers but in all honesty I don't feel like paying 350 on this anymore. I really hope WOTC somehow makes it up for people in general as the vast majority had hopes of getting them from the Hasbro page and they couldn't even fulfill their 4 day quota.

They said they'd sell whatever they had left on the website. Seeing as nothing is left.... we'll see.
