As you may have noticed in other sub-forums, we now have the option to tag threads with a prefix. The rumor mill staff believes this is the perfect way to visually separate speculation and rumors proper from the main forum page.
Threads posted in the rumor mill proper will now use prefix's. Prefix's are color coded per set/block/product. All rumor threads can have the proper prefix attached when creating or editing a thread. Prefix's must be made by the admin staff before they can be used in the rumor mill. Users are highly encouraged to select the proper tag for the thread if there is one. Users may not remove a tag that has been added to properly label a thread.
How does this effect speculation threads? In short, it wont. Speculation threads are still encouraged to use the proper 3 letter tag for the product they are posting about, the difference is that no prefix's will be added to the speculation sub or the new card discussion sub-forum. The end result will make new, properly tagged rumor threads stick out from speculation tags without adding a redundant [SPEC] tag or anything similar.
Prefix's are also searchable. Want to remember what you said about a card? You can now search for the proper prefix and find the thread you are looking for with much more ease. At this time however, we do not plan on retroactively applying tags to all threads in the rumor mill.
A quick guide to properly tagging threads :
[RTR] is for any rumor that pertains to the set of Return to Ravnica. This includes the number crunch, official WOTC spoilers, possible leaked cards and other info that relates to the set.
[FTV] is for all From the Vault product threads. We tend to isolate FTV product discussion to 1 thread per product.
[Promo] is designated for all new promos coming our way. This includes FNM, judge, Comic book, Gateway and Gameday promos, and any i may have missed. Pre-release and release promos should be tagged with the set they are for.
[Judge] is for all rumors pertaining to changes in the rules, changes in the judge program and similar. Judge promos should be tagged with the promo tag.
[COMM] is reserved for discussion about any standalone commander products. This currently includes the Commander precon decks from last summer and the new Commander's Arsenal.
[DvD] is for all Duel Deck products. Please be sure to properly title the thread with the product's name. As with FTV products, Duel deck discussion is usually limited to 1 rumor thread.
[PCH] is for discussion of any new planechase products. Promo planes should be tagged with the [Promo] tag.
[ARCH] likewise is for discussion of any new Archenemy products. Promo schemes should be tagged with the [Promo] tag.
[DOTP] is reserved for rumors pertaining to the Duels of the Planeswalkers digital video game product.
[MTGO] is for any rumors that pertain ONLY to the MTGO product.
[???] is a placeholder tag. This should only be used if the info does not have a proper tag created yet, (IE: Info on the 3rd set of a block before the name is officially revealed) or if it doesn't apply to any tags. This tag is always temporary until an official tag can be applied or made.
If you have any suggestions or improvements on the tags we have already implemented or would like to suggest a new tag we may have overlooked, please post here. Also, please report any problems you have with adding or viewing them here as well.
I guess OP wants it to be 'keyworded' like "dies" was. What word would you replace ETB with though?
When Aegis Angel is born?
When Huntmaster of the Fells arrives?
When Kitchen Sphinx lands?
When Faerie Imposter busts in?
When Dread Cacodemon pops in?
When Malfegor shows up?
1.) The color -- seems unnecessary...what happens after a few sets are released? Will the same color be used for all expansions? I think it's fine to keep it all the same bolded color.
2.) I think many users were clamoring for a [SPEC] tag (for "speculation"), which I think would be more useful than some of these other tags. Too often people see a topic from the main forum and click on it, only to be disappointed that it was actually baseless speculation.
This is a good idea.
I think the way the M13 tag looks is great, why can't all the tags just be the same color? As others have said, the RTR one is a little aggressive on the eyes.
Also, shouldn't Gatecrash have one?

But anyways, this is a good first step!
1. The goal of the color will be to keep similar sets labeled the same. It will change as well between expansions or blocks. That's one aspect we had not 100% discussed before implementation.
2. The goal of this tag is to make any speculation tag obsolete. Since tags will only be used within the rumor mill proper and are open to any poster adding them when creating a thread, we can better distinguish between what is speculation and what is a rumor without adding a redundant [Spec] tag to all posts within the speculation subforum.
This is a good idea.

The idea was to have them be colored to best differentiate between official tags and speculation tags and to seperate them further between products at a glance.
Gatecrash should have one, but we are wanting some input on that one. Should we implement the same color for a block, or change it with the set?
I'm going to see if we can't find a better gold color for RTR in the meantime.
Look at me! I can bold words and use CAPSLOCK to emphasize my point! Hopefully I can trick people into ignoring that I completely have no evidence in my post to back up my claims if I make it look fancy enough.
The colored tags while a good idea in theory arent' working out for me at all. I use the dark skin for ease of reading while on the boards, and the promo and m13 tags are all but invisible. I have a feeling that no matter which skin you use some colors will just plain not show up. Points for effort though- when I first opened the rumor mill today I got all excited about the colored tags, but then was quickly aggravated when I realized that some of them were "invisible".
I'll throw in agreement that the changing colors are just plain bad times. If you really want to use different colors, can we have one color for sets, one for standalone products, and one for promos instead of having the nightmare rainbow we have now?

This I really don't get. How would the tags do anything to differentiate between an actual rumored card and some poster's misplaced speculation thread? Let me give an example:
[M14] - New Garruk [M14] - Basic Lands Confirmed
Here we got two threads. The first one is actually a poster talking about Garruk's character and how it has progressed in the last year, so it would only make sense to give Garruk a new card. The second thread is artwork for the basic lands in M14. But, before knowing any of that, how would you be able to tell? Honestly, the only way I could see to make speculation and rumors different in tags is to add even more colors, but that really wouldn't do anything either. If the OP is the one that needs to tag the thread, they'll likely just use the 'rumor color' over the set's 'speculation color'. After all, they screwed up not putting it in the speculation subforum so it's not a far stretch to think they wouldn't screw that up, too. Not to mention that more colors is exactly what we don't need.
And that's why I don't get your second point. Unless I completely missed what your were on about.
Also, ax the colors. Other than making our board look as if a unicorn vomited on the front page, they add absolutely nothing. In fact, they actually make everything worse by turning it into one massive eyesore, or by making tags hidden under certain skins. If people are looking for certain tags or sets, why can't they use that search function you were talking about?
Finally, did this actually do anything different than what we have now? The tags and everything? I thought the rumor mill already used tags on it's threads, but I suppose it's nice to have a concise tag for promos.

If the thread is misplaced in the Mill instead of speculation, yes that will still be a problem. Moving the thread will remove the prefix. There is no prefix for speculation, therefor having a prefix already distinguishes them from speculation.
Also, these tags appear visually different than simply typing [RTR]
Do appreciate the effort, but unfortunately the colors are awkward to read. The colors might make sense logically, but my eye is constantly being drawn to the tag instead of the topic title as I'm reading.
Logical ≠ Usable/Readable.
Any of these would be easier to read (for me anyway):
1. The entire topic title is the color of the tag (e.g. all of "[FTV] – From the Vault: Realms Partial Spoiler" is orange/peach/whatever color that is)
or
2. Take a look at http://www.fark.com/ 's front page. The tags are a column of images on the left side. This is readable. Perhaps we could use expansion symbols like this?
or
3. (as someone else suggested) All tags are the same color.

The only option that our forum software can handle is making them all the same color.
Can't we just use black for all of the prefixes? The color seems overly cute and a bit... loud, if you will, and if the prefixes are primarily in place for official-ness and searchability on the fora, the color is also irrelevant.
