Not bad, not bad! While I personally don't find him all that appealing I can almost see him being an automatic sideboard against aggro decks, and I am sure there are plenty of decks that would want to maindeck him.

Someday, I will own all of the dragons. All of them. 43/111, approximately 39% complete. Over a third done.
(calling it now; there will be a cycle of Legendary dual lands with Basic Land types in Theros block)

It depends on what is in RTR as to whether or not talrand will be good without phyrexian mana. The reason talrand is decent now is you can immediately probe right after casting him and boom he's done something. If you pass after casting him and they remove him, you wasted 4 mana to do actually nothing.
On jace, oh my god. Jace is stupid good, anyone who doesn't think so isn't reading the ****ing card. +1 to protect himself, mini FoF for minus 2? Wow. The ultimate is the ultimate, it's very good to cast your opponents best card. On a sidenote, I can't believe how good jace is against tokens. +1, oh so your tokens are 0/1's on the attack. Sweet. Or you shrink their team as a fog effect to preserve your life and you get favorable blocks by doing so. I can see jace being a huge powerhouse in standard.
Thanks for answering my question about Talrand.
As another note about Jace, his ultimate not only gives you your opponents best card, it lets you search for your own best card and cast it too. His ult reads "for each player" not "for each opponent."
Worth noting, I think.

He is very good. Much better than everyone is giving him credit for.
This.
Seriously, you guys are missing a whole bunch of stuff. I think this guy is the second best Jace. I would go as far as to say he's not even that far off from Jace TMS.
This guy is freakin absurd.
First, right off the bat this guy starts off at 6(!) loyalty: His base 4 loyalty and the +1 loyalty ability which gives -1 ATK.
Keep in mind, that goes up the more guys they have. That is Gideon Jura levels of tankery for one less mana.
In addition, it is very easy for control decks to interact with single card creatures up until turn 4 - Doom Blade or PTE for example. His + 1 thus synergizes well with modern removal.
His second ability is unprecedented: Up until this point, we have never had a walker with the ability to + 2 cards. The awesomeness inherent in this should be relatively straightforward.
His ulti is serviceable. At the very least, you can always pull some guy out of your own deck. In the match-ups where he's bad though, I imagine his +1 will end up doing a lot of work.
The only bad thing I can think about this card is the fact that he's so eeriely similar to Jace the Mind Sculptor that I really can't see them unbanning Jace 2.0 in the near future.
I'm always looking to play a good superfriends deck and jace seems to get along well with everyone else. His -2 works really well with liliana of the veil because you can just get two cards to discard. He can protect other walkers decently well (still need a day of judgment effect or gideon jura). It also curves well into tamiyo, the moon sage. It'll will be pretty difficult for aggro decks to get through those two.
Mostly, though, I'm just glad that this will shut up everyone who was saying that Jace would be UR. Until he shows up in the storyline again, at least. Then the cycle of idiotic speculation and baseless claims will begin anew.
