I'd be surprised if Ravnica was revisited so soon, but NOT surprised that they would jump right past Kamigawa. It's kind of a weird comparison, but also consider the returning keyword in 2011 and 2012. 2011 brought back Scry, which first appeared in Mirrodin. 2012 brought back Bloodthirst, which first appeared in Ravnica. One of Kamigawa's keywords is "tribal" (Soulshift) and one was "a mistake" (Sweep, I think), but hey, doesn't anyone else think it would be cool to have Bushido in a core set!? Come on. Or Ninjas.
I know Kamigawa is one of the least popular planes, but come on. Also note that none of Kamigawa's keywords appeared in Time Spiral, a block that reused tons and tons of keywords. Dominaria's story is even linked to Kamigawa thanks to the Umezawa's. There are a small few creatures in Dominaria that even look Samurai-ish, such as Capashen Knight.
But, hey, maybe leaving Kamigawa alone is a good thing. After all, going back to Mirrodin turned it into a hellish mockery of it's former self. I'm actually worried about Ravnica. Things were pretty bad anyway, but Wizards seems to love the last set being apocalyptic lately, so...poor Ravnica.
Yeah, right! The guilds disbanded, but they could create new guilds or everything could be in total chaos and someone tries to use this... well, who knows... some crazy thread [sic] could show up that needs the whole plane to unite?!?
OH NOEZ!! CRAZY THREAD, THE EVIL COUSIN OF EPIC THREAD IS HERE!!!! RUUUUUUUUUN!!!!
Or, you know, grab a needle and show that thread who's boss!
Joking aside, I'd love to have a Ravnica visit. If for nothing else, to be able to have more multicolor cards... and, you know, maybe getting Glimpse back.
The funniest thing in this thread is how everyone all of a sudden know exactly what Innistrad is like...
I don't think Innistrad sounds like Ravnica in any way for reference... It sounds more like a russian eastern european setting. So the only ravnica-like is the Orzhov guild.
It'll have ghosts and spirits! It's a remake of Kamigawa! Don't you see it! Mirrodin, Kami, Rav!!!!!!! OMG!!!!
Okay, I'm soooo kidding there.
I don't know how I feel about this news. Ravnica was great in CONCEPT. But honestly I didn't like it as much as most people. The guilds weren't all very well designed and many of the new mechanics were sort of left in their own puddles of design away from everything else. I'm sure they'd change things up and improve on things I disliked... but it was a bit exhasting to deal with.
My only thought on this being "false" news is that they said that they wanted to wait till they saw how returning to Mirrodin did sales wise... From what I can tell locally, it was a very poor selling block until NPH came along, even though Mirrodin v01 was one of the best selling blocks of all time. Seems a bit strange they would go through with doing it again so soon if they were just feeling things out.
hook= ravnica? SWEET! cant wait to see what all has been going on there since we left (unless its a flashback or something....which would be unintuitive and weird so I doubt it)
call me when its confirmed ;P

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
A return to Mirrodin brought a return to the banlist; does a return to Ravnica bring a return to a diverse and interesting metagame?
Well said. This might be one of the most succinct, direct and to the point posts that could be written about the topic. I was going to say the exact same thing, but with more words.
I think the poster before me may be on to something. M11 gave us scry and low an behold we take a trip right back to where scry first popped up. That could be a coincedence(i doubt it though). Now in M12 we have bloodthirst. An ability that was used in Ravnica and if M11 wasn't coincedence then we it seems obvious they are revisiting rav. Also Rav was one of the best blocks ever(most people who played standard at this time will agree).
EDIT: this was wrote when Guinea Pig was the last post.
Some of you may think that you have made great mistakes in your lives, and perhaps you have. But let me ask you this.... did you ever play strip poker with two fat chicks and win?
Please let this be false. This can't be true. Scars was supposed to be a test to see if planar returns would be good as a selling point, which I probably proved to be true, but to pump out another one so quickly is insane unless they're going for some sort of forced storyline...
I'm excited because I never got to see the first Ravnica until after the fact. However, I'd rather see a return to Mercadia. Masques is probably the most interesting set flavor-wise.

Why can't this be true? As I have stated before"ravnica is one of the best sets ever". So what would make you think they wouldn't revisit this set? I just hope they don't use the phyrexians are taking over again. I mean one person can only handle so much phyrexian.

The return to Ravnica was inevitable given the amount of time Jace spends hanging out there. I've already theorized a bit on what Ravnica 2.0 might look like, so this is what I'm hoping for: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?p=6559825
This isn't some out of the blue thing, they have been setting up the return to ravnica since at least zendikar.
After gideon saw the emrakul and realized he stood no chance he went to ravnica to try and recruit other planeswalkers (read as: Jace & co). The next logical step in the magic story is there, going to a new plane would just bring up new questions rather than continue the story of the eldrazi and the main planeswalkers.

Good news if this is true. Ravnica came out when i got back into magic after a long hiatus and Ravnica + time spiral was my favorite standard environment because the metagame was so varied. I haven't been playing standard since then.
I hope this means we'll get new duals, altough a reprint of the shocks would be ok. Maybe we'll get new gold planewalkers? New guildmages?
I hope they keep the good guild mechanics like dredge and introduce new mechanics instead of those that didn't work well like radiance and haunt (altough i loved all the guilds).
For those saying "Innistrad's setting is too similar to Ravnica" - we haven't actually had a good look at what Innistrad's setting looks like. We've seen tiny glimpses in the backgrounds of leaked artwork. That's not enough to get a good picture of how the setting is going to look and feel as a whole.
This all makes perfect sense to me. They announce Modern to be a real format then reprint the shocklands in a Ravnica block. Seems fine. I didn't play during Ravnica, but every card from that block is pure gold
I fail to see how a return to Ravnica is so "amazing" for the game. Ravnica was a great block because it gave us such a diverse metagame very memorable cards. We can no doubt assume that we will just get another overpowered block with Mythics that dominate, and jace 4.0 Especially if Maro is working on it. Just because it's the same plane does not mean we get amazing cards and balance again, or a diverse meta.
Storywise, I hope this doesn't end with Nicol Bolas wringing his hands and going "Just as planned!" again, I'm getting sick of that guy.
A return to Ravnica could be a good thing, and could mean a lot of different things. The idea of civilization being overthrown and replaced with a more natural setting is appealing to me. Someone mentioned rare/uncommon planeswalkers, which doesn't seem too farfetched. They could be consortium neophytes or some other low rank. (and I'm all for a Hero's Demise for planeswalkers) Kamigawa gave us uncommon legendaries, after all.
Speaking of Kamigawa, a possible return to that plane would tie up the rest of the plot threads, considering Karn's visit there and the probability of him leaving some trace of Phyrexian juice. If the success of Scars as a "return" block is any indication, we may be seeing a trend in future blocks alternating between new ones and return ones. Honestly, all I want is the Black Myojin to break out of the mask as a planeswalker and open up a case of whoop-ass on Nicol Bolas

For me, the diverse metagame is only part of it. It's also the general aesthetic of the plane, distilled from card names and flavor text and art and three novels that are - to this day - the only novels for an established intellectual property that I actually like. Would it suck if the metagame weren't diverse? Of course it would. But as far as the game of Magic is concerned, Ravnica's a home plane of sorts for me, and I'm happy to return to it just for that feeling of familiarity.
EDIT: As for Kamigawa... I don't know that they'll ever return to it. It's widely regarded as being one of the least-liked blocks in the game's history. The only thing it has going for it is that the revisionist history that's becoming ever so popular is that it was unpopular purely because its mechanics didn't play well outside of the block and Umezawa's Jitte was a "must-run" card. If the design team starts getting arrogant, they could easily lapse into a "we'll do Kamigawa right this time!" mindset, forgetting as many already have that the setting turned a lot of people off as well. Personally, I wouldn't mind going back now that we're squarely in the era of inter-block synergy, but I know quite a few people that would be put off purely by the plane's aesthetics.
I hope that if they do make a "Kamigawa done right" block, that they would at least do something interesting, like an alternate timeline where the kami overpowered everything and the spirit and physical worlds merged again. Hell, they could do a faction thing like with scars and have it be spirits vs corporeal (I would say human but that would leave out more than a few tribes).
Maybe I'm too attached to Kamigawa because it was my first block, but I just wish they would expand on some of the mechanics and themes. I always felt that the block as a whole was unfinished and it's immensely frustrating that we only got a handful of cards each for a dozen mechanics when they could have easily trimmed it down to half that and made a lot more cross-block synergy.

We'd have a green villain, for once. And focusing more on the conflict of Nature vs. Civilization would help distinguish this block from its predecessor.
The first plan we knew of was to be a five-year plan that became a six-year plan, with Ravnica, Time Spiral, Lorwyn/Shadowmoor, Alara, Zendikar, Scars. It is notable here that for that plan Zendikar was added as an experimental block, meaning it could have been anything, and not necessarily a land block. Now we're on a seven-year plan (originally meant to be another six-year plan), with Innistrad, Hook, Friends, Huey, +3 more we don't have codenames for yet. It's quite possible that one block in the plan was added as another revisit block if Scars worked out with a fallback if it didn't.
Ah, thank you, I'd forgotten the numbers. You probably have the right of it - no reason they can't make a plan with alternates.
