I'm sorry, but when have they ever made a piece of art with a female as eroticized as this? I can think of lots of art with beautiful women in it, but even something like the original Fire Elemental art or Stormbind doesn't give off so much of a feel of the subject posing as this does.
EDIT: Okay, actually, there's probably one: Essence Vortex. But the fact that there really aren't many of this kind of art, and that it's only on very old art, only makes my point for me. This art is not appropriate.
Are you serious? It's a pretty dude with a weird medieval corset thing and no shirt. That's it, a guy with no shirt on. How the hell is anything about this less appropriate than chicks in armor that might as well be lingerie or angels with giant breast plates?

"Hey you know how we all drink blood right?"
"Ya."
"Well what if like... what if like we just went and drank more of it you know?"
"Drink more blood?"
"Ya, like instead of little baby sips, we all get together and really just drain someone dry. It'll be fun, like a party."
"A party?"
"Ya, a big crazy blood frenzy party. Bring your friends sort of thing."
You forgot the rest of the conversation:
"That sounds fun."
"Ya, and then I'll drizzle blood all over my pecks so you can lick it off."
"Great! I've got the perfect music to set the mood." *Cue Forever Young by Alphaville*
Face it, the homoerotic flavor has almost nothing to do with the mechanics of the card. It's forced and awkward.

But the difference between just normal fanservice and this is that this card's flavor is BUILT around it being hedonistic and sexual. It's supposed to be creepily erotic. Personally, I prefer this to the 'oh, i'm not a sexual character at all, but i'm dressed like your average cheap prostitute' art we get sometimes on normally serene/just NOT sexual characters.
To be clear, I'm not against the sexual nature of it. I just think it's a REALLY stupid looking ... outfit... *hand flop*. And I feel like the nipples are going to poke my eyes out.
That's a pretty strong lord for the vampire deck if there is one. I like it.
If you read over the article where the art for this card was previewed, you'll find that the image was actually created with the gay community in mind.
Uh, that sentence while looking at that art... Well. Hahah
Ya I chuckled when I read that comment as well.
The card is pretty solid. It reminds me of Rage Forger, a card I well loved, but without as much of an immediate impact. However, you are going to be playing Red, which means not only will you have access to burn but you will also have access to Volt Charge, which could be pretty awesome when your entire army can put counters on itself by attacking. A solid lord definitely helps put Vampires back off the ground, and raises the commitment to Red considerably.
this isn't that weird at all and it is kind of something that vampires are all about
anyone that is really offended or weirded out by this is pretty mad homophobic. We get so many pointlessly sexualized women on card art and now we get a sexual picture of a man on a card that flavorfully fits to be sexual and you complain?
You need to get some perspective if you think there is anything wrong with this.
"Dear Magic Artists,
Please only draw guys clad in full armor or mostly clothed, and if you have to draw them shirtless, make sure they're bulky and hairy and nasty and, for the love of god, don't show anatomically correct nipples. Also, please make every female a Double D with impractical bikini armor and a pretty face.
Kthxbye,
Magic players who complain about nothing."

Turn 1: stromkirk noble.
Turn 2: Curse of stalked prey, swing for 1
Turn 3: This guy, swing for 2. you now have a 6/6 pro-human guy.
^This is bananas. Shut it down before T3 or dismember wont even touch it.

I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
Nice to see wizards giving something to the female and homosexual community. I'm sure they're tired of the T&A on many cards that feature female characters, do it's good that something gets made for them every so often.
To me the art just looks kinda gross... are people actually turned on by a guy with blood dripping from his mouth?
Reprints the one card that people point to when saying that art objectifies women.
Well done Wizards.
Liliana does not objectify women in any way at all. We have gotten to a point in our society that every single picture of a women must be objectifying a women in some negative way......blah blah blah.. That is not the case. (((Sarcasm)))Picture of a girl drinking a milk shake, must be sex related and putting women down, picture of girl sitting on a beach, picture of a girl driving a car, picture of a girl on the moon at a new space station.)))
You have a picture of an attractive strong power women who girls dress up as for anime conventions. What more do you want? The picture is fine, happy to see a reprint. Sick of of seeing people claim that everything in existence must be putting women down. Then all I have to do is replace the word "women" with anything else to get the same mentality; fish, cats, arabs, blacks, jews, men, environment, whites, chinese, old people, etc. It doesn't matter what word I put in. Stop sucking life out of everything man. That artwork of her is awesome. Stop putting stuff down man. Just stop. If the picture was really as negative as you claim she would totally nude, in a kitchen, making sandwiches and giving blow jobs. Her abilities would be horrible as well. +1 do nothing -2 do nothing -6 do nothing. Instead liliana of the veil is an amazing planeswalker comparable to jace, the mind sculpter with great art to appreciate.
My suggestion listen to some comedy radio for a while, pandora is free, youtube is free there is something out there for you. ***** go make fun of somebody. The whole world is so serious and campaigning for some cause, or someones rights, everything is a hate crime, racist, sexist. blah blah blah.
"O no mcdonalds must be slandering a hate crime against skinny people every time they make a big mac." hahaha jeeze You're just someone perpetuating another groups negative perspective that they've made you believe is correct. Look at the picture for a hour and tell me what's wrong with it? I don't see anything.
I have heard vague rumors of a moustache-dispensing vending machine in a distant laundromat, across the street from a tattoo parlor. However, this information is shaky, and time is of the essence.
"Dear Magic Artists,
Please only draw guys clad in full armor or mostly clothed, and if you have to draw them shirtless, make sure they're bulky and hairy...
Well, I wouldn't really have any problem with that....
It remains to be seen if there will be enough playable vampires for this guy to see any play. It's possible there could be something going here with the aforementioned Noble and Curse, and if there are some more low mana cost, high power vampires, we might see mono red vampire aggro, or at least black/red.
As for the art, I can only express disappointment that there aren't enough vampires in my Beefcake EDH deck to take advantage of them. Wait, that came out wrong.
The fact that they made some fanservice to females et al really doesn't bother me. What really bothers me about this art is that it looks BDSM to a really disturbing degree.
Although, on the other hand... A big part of horror is creating controversy and getting negative emotional reactions. This seems to me like a big theme that they've got going on in the set underneath all the individual cards. They're taking a little bit more license doing controversial things. In addition to this, they've done:
These are all things that have never been done (mostly because they knew they would be controversial); and yet somehow they all happened in the same set . I think we can expect a lot more controversial things to come out of this set.
The fact that they made some fanservice to females et al really doesn't bother me. What really bothers me about this art is that it looks BDSM to a really disturbing degree.
Oh come on, if they were both females we would not even be talking about this.
If you guys are looking for flavor then the developers got it all wrong. They should have named the sets as "Twilight, Breaking Dawn and New Moon"
As for the card, it's among my top picks for Limited and it WILL be a part of a funky deck I'm planning to build.
You must be burned at the stake for this comment, no forgiveness will be given for even referencing that terrible four book nightmare and 5 movie terror to anything related to this game, even if this guy kinda is as gay as Edward is. (and we know he is, as i'm bisexual :P)
Bloodcrazed Neonate is kinda over the top creepy without a sexy focus, and Olivia has something that we can only assume is an artist mistake.
I demand a sexy female vampire.
As for the card, I doubt it'll see constructed play. It's decent, but it doesn't fit into a much-needed role, and decent is never enough for a card on its own.
Olivia just has a massive woody problem, maybe Eric has a thing for men too? a Transexual vampire.. it fits.. maybe o.o, doesn't matter she's still my new RB general, as she's disgustingly efficient for her mana cost, and she pings and grows for 1r?

Vampires of the gothic/victorian fiction were all gorgeous, attractive, sexual, animalistic, savage and permanently erotized creatures. Take a look at Varney, Ruthven, Carmilla or Dracula for the vampires they're trying to depict here.
Nosferatu does not belong to this era, he's a german expressionism version of Dracula Murnau made up cause the Stoaker family didn't give him the rights to do Dracula and threatened to sue. That is also where the "dies in sunlight" bull**** comes from.
I like both the art and the card, all vampires need is a lifelink-granting lord and I'm sold in building aggro vamps.

Yes sir, I take fantasy art and character design commissions, PM me for rates.
Will the new Standard Vampire decks focus on making their monsters huge? Thinking about the Noble, this guy, the red curse spell, the Bloodthirst M12 vampires, etc.
Or are none of these viable mechanics for Standard?

Turning all you vampires including itself into a slith is a pretty good lord style ability(and it stacks) and at 2/2 for 3 its the standard lord size.

This seems to me like a big theme that they've got going on in the set underneath all the individual cards. They're taking a little bit more license doing controversial things. In addition to this, they've done:
1.) Double-faced cards
2.) Human tribal (I would honestly not be surprised to see "sacrifice a human" in this block at some point) (MaRo explains human tribal controversy
3.) Top-down design (MaRo says this is the first set he has designed a top-down block
4.) Enchant Player (OK, so they've been done before, but they've never gotten this much focus and is still a bit controversial in my opinion)
These are all things that have never been done (mostly because they knew they would be controversial); and yet somehow they all happened in the same set . I think we can expect a lot more controversial things to come out of this set.
