26 years old and working for Wizards and you are enough of a douche bag to steal from them? Seriously?!
You sir are not even a douche bag. You aren't even a douche nozzle. You are, however, the water that squirts back into the douche that now smells of flowers, vinegar, and skank.

To be honest, asking for specific "extra product" for some companies is perfectly fine and considered a perk. Especially if the product is going to be destroyed or gotten rid of. Other times an employee can get discounts on specific products as well.
To be frank, if he wanted more money just go into banking. That's where all the real money is at, or maybe consulting.
Ugh, that's a depressing video - and I'm already quite paranoid about my cards :p.
As for the OP's case, it is indeed surprising that a 26-year-old working for WotC, even if only in a minor capacity, would feel compelled to steal from them. You'd think pretty much anyone would just be grateful for the opportunity.
Yeah if I was 26 and working at WotC I wouldn't do anything to get fired. Like, honestly? Maybe he should've just asked for the cards or at least some of them. It wouldn't be surprising to have a perk as a WotC employee to get free judge foils or some product at least. But yeah, stealing $45,000 dollars worth of cards? You'll probably get caught and not only will you get fired but you will be prosecuted.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
I actuall know that guy and game at that store. it is a total bummer. Donnie didnt seem like ajerk but apparently I was wrong.
My good firend owns that store and is having all sorts of business problems due to this. He is a good guy and had no idea Donnie was stealing.
its too bad. I hadn't heard the whole story but geez. that is insane
They were in fact judge foils and FNM cards. It's sad really. He leaked them to the shop owner slowly and/or said they were on the infamous "free table"
its too bad that my buddy who owned the shop is out of a ton of money he paid donnie and cant field FNM events until the investigation is over.
Oh man all I do is fantasize about robbing magic! haha
A LGS in my city was robbed three times by one person I think.
One time he apparently sawed through the floor on the second
floor to get into the building, nuts!
But seriously, like why would you risk your job over some cards?
Weak.

^^ I know that store too. I usually go to the Stand though. Much better in my opinion. Easier too.
The stand is the worst place to play, the cheating there is rampant. Sean, Shalva and crew are always bringing in extra cards in sleeves to cheat in drafts they also have pick more than one card during draft picks. The owner knows this but does nothing about it. At KG they catch cheaters and BAN them. Perfect example the video clip

a magic heist just sounds cool.

Looks like a job opening at WotC for anyone interested.;)
Averaged "researched" value of $25. That sounds likely.
Could also be FTV cards though.

Ambition must be made to counteract ambition.
Individualities may form communities, but it is institutions alone that can create a nation.
Nothing succeeds like the appearance of success.
Here is my principle: Taxes shall be levied according to ability to pay. That is the only American principle.
And judge foils? I'd go straight for the framed beta sheet

"Seriously, $80 cards? There's no conceivable way. If even one mythic card hit that price point, everyone and their mother would start buying boxes of Alara to "flip" him." -Charlequin
Being listened to would've beat saying I TOLD YOU SO 3 years later.

If they had put in security cameras and that had deterred him, this guy would probably still be working there. It's probably better this way.
