Becuase Wizards want you to know this isnt only about on tournament (the PT). There are a lot of side events, +++ stuff you can do. Is a Magic convention, a whole weekend of pure Magic, for everybody, not just the Pros
pro tour's are traditionally
friday invitation only
saturday 4-3 or better on day 1
sunday top 8 grand prix's are traditionally
saturday open day
sunday x-2 or better (includes top 8 play)
I wonder if this is a trial run for Wizards to expand their GP schedule. If Paris works out we might see more of this in the future? This could mean there will be a PT + GP together going forward in addition to the separate GP events.
So basically this schedule means that the overextended format was just a rumour, after all?
No, this tells us nothing about Overextended, which is still quite possible.
We only have info about the PTs; we still don't have info about most of the GPs, and Legacy has been (and thus presumably Overextended will be) a GP-only format for a while.
When the OP said something about block constructed, I looked it seems to be the same, only at the Pro Tour, I didnt see any block con qualifiers. No change=lame.
I guess they bucked the idea of a "Magic Festival". Hard to sell to suspicious parents.
Edit: Glad to see San Fran on the list. Also seems kind of strange to see 2 US pro tours back to back.
I know I could look it up, but has the tour ever made a stop in Canada?

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
Hmm, US west and east coast, somewhere in the middle of Europe and somewhere in Japan. Not hugely daring or original.
Puerto Rico was a pretty cool idea this year- it was accessible to US players, so not bankrupting wizards for travel awards, plus was somewhere tropical.
Why not try some new places? Montreal, Oslo, Tenerife, Rio de Janeiro?
Tenerife was another example of a tropical venue that has a large amount of air traffic to it. A Europe equivalent to Honolulu, perhaps.
Oslo was just an example since there's been a number of PT winners from scandinavia, but no PTs there. Most of the rest of the large european cities have already had a pt.

Actually I'd say more Cancun really (having lived in the UK for a year, it was where all the young college kids went, much like Cancun is for US students)... to be fair, there hasn't been any major Magic events out there. Purhaps there is a bit of "avoiding anything too touristy?" Let's face it, Nationals in Minneapolis didn't exactly scream "come hang out."
8-hour drive from Turin, north Italy. I wanna believe it.
I really want to
lol damn, europeans don't drive a lot do they? 8 hours is nothing, try a 20 hour drive stopping only to use the restroom. Now thats a road trip, not very fun though.

We fly or use trains and buses if the road trip duration is longer than 8 hours

I'd avoid nations like Mexico until they can secure things up against the drug cartels. Cancun just had a bar molotov cocktailed bombed and I read about mass murders by these cartels daily.
I'm gonna really try to qualify for PT-Paris, I think. It'd be just so cool to go to Paris, somewhere I've always wanted to be, to play Magic. I'm gonna play more Scars sealed than is healthy.

More games are decided by tight technical play than all other factors combined.

It's good to see Block Constructed come back, and the qualifier formats are in a holding pattern.
And yes, there is both a Pro Tour and a Grand Prix in Paris on the same weekend. Wizards has gone crazy.

There aren't Legacy PTs; there haven't been for a while.
You have a GP in Toronto coming up. How is that leaving you out?

What does this mean? I mean, my chances of making it there are very slim anyway (probably need to win GP Toronto), but just in case I get to go.
It is good to learn from your failures, but I prefer to learn from the failures of others.

San Diego and San Juan (this year's effective US PTs) were back to back
Ever since going to 4 PTs they have had 2 in the US (or a protectorate in the case of SJ), one in Europe and one in Japan.
I'm really excited to try and qual for PT Philly, no more than 2 hours from here.
