I believe every playable card will eventually have been reprinted en masse. As I've been going through old collections to add to inventory, I've noticed that a great percentage of playable stable commons and uncommons have already been done. Another thing I notice is this brings the prices of cards way down.
Essentially, it's like they're now able to reprint all the popular playable cards. The secondary market, pretty much destroyed in recent years by MTGO and the push for limited formats, has all but given up on Magic imo.
But awesome opportunity for:
- new players who have no cards but want some
- WotC
If that means that there arn't as many speculators who don't actually play but instead artificually jack up the prices of certain cards then good. To be honest, it was those types of "investors" that created the need for the restricted list and in my opinion they have done more harm to the game than good.
Yes they will print a card in a limited edition, probably will cost most people $100 dollars to get, set that is pure ☺☺☺☺.
You sir are a real joker.
Nice personal attack, thanks.
So all the cards from FTV: Dragons were uber-powered? (*cough* Ebon Dragon)
You must be thinking of FTV:Exiled, whose cards were powerful because they had once been Exiled. FTV doesn't mean all 15 cards have to be super powerful. Conservator has been out since Revised. Maybe they liked the art and/or its historical place in the early sets of magic, so they picked it as the art and one of the throwaway cards in the set of 15.
Or perhaps there was a conversation like:
"Hey, Steve (Argyle), how's it going... we need you to redo an old card for the cover art for the new FTV"
"OK, sounds cool, what card is it based on?"
"Oh crap, what's that artifact... you know... from the old base set... it cost 4... people HATED that thing... oops I gotta go, we need that art by this weekend, thanks buddy!" (click)
I pretty much think I'm just going to preorder 4 of them.. Depends on what's going in it of course. The smart thing to do with these things seems to be to preorder as many as possible and then make some bank to generate more money for magic cards!
Never a bad thing.
Anyways, despite the art looking like Conservator, I have to say it's probably Nev's Disk..
--
I've always hoped they'd make a non-tournament legal promo set that put together the most powerful cards into one card, like the split cards from Ravnica.
Jitte is the GP promo for 2010, so it probably won't be released in FTV: Relics.

I was driven from this once-great site by abusive mods and admins, who create rules out of thin air to punish people for breaking them (meaning the rule does not exist under forum rules) and selectively enforce the rules that are written on the forum rules. I am currently lurking while deleting 6 years and 2 months of posting history. I will return when ExpiredRascals, Teia Rabishu and Blinking Spirit are no longer in power.
Jitte is already the attendance promo for Grand Prix for 2010, but I suppose it's still a possibility. I kinda doubt that they'd do two of them so close together. (Well, at least for something that's not a planeswalkerand all)

Except how many people have ever heard about Conservator and why the hell would they chose a ☺☺☺☺ty artifact no one plays as the preview art.
I was just looking at the FTV: Dragons announcement and notice that the preview art is for Hellkite Overlord which was the Shards preview card.
Maybe this preview art is for the Lights preview card?

MTGS: You guys do not speak for the wider Magic community despite what you guys think.
708th at Grand Prix: Toronto 2013
Modern: U/R Delver, RUG Scapeshift, Pod
Standard: Jeskai Tempo
Legacy: Dredge, Burn
Pauper: Mono-U Delver
EDH: Ghave, Token Master
Anyway, good luck getting rid of investors. Wherever there's a market and people, there will be people playing that market, guaranteed.
That is true, but from what I understand it was those investors who where the major reason why cards used to jump up in price durring the early days of magic. If their impact is minimized then I would argue that that is a good thing for the health of the game.
You can see the five colors of magic sparkling from that little flare in the center. My initial gut disappoint reaction is Star Compass. Sol Ring doesn't quite make sense with all that color, not sure about the Nevy's Disk. Seems to be drawing things into it, not pushing out energy which also makes sense with Star Compass.
I'd wager dollars to pesos that the revealed artwork is Nevinyrral's Disk. It's basically the same artwork, just a different artistic interpretation (And how fitting that the center of the disk would seem much more "science fiction"-y than before). While I'm not ready to guess the full list of 15 cards, I am willing to bet the following:
There will be ZERO creatures
There will be ONE equipment
There will be ZERO continuous artifacts.
Equipments and continuous artifacts you could make an argument for, but the term "relics" really seems to rule out creatures. "Relics" seems to imply some ancient artifact that you find and unlock the power of, as in paying an activation cost (Even if it's just tapping it). A Howling Mine, for example, doesn't really strike me as a relic. It's just some thing that is there and has an effect, simply by existing. Equipment, on the other hand, does have an activation cost and require someone to wield it and such, but they still seem to lack the feel on antiquity that I think is required of this set (Preview card aside). The only equipment that I think could fit is Umezawa's Jitte, and only because it has roots in Tetsuo Umezawa from Legends.

I'm going on record right now and stating that before the end of 2012 we will see foil dual lands in booster packs (The real, Alpha dual lands). You can quote me on that.
I'm not a huge fan of the idea of From The Vault sets. It seems like a cool idea in principle, but the past two sets ended up being bid up to ridiculous price levels by large online dealers who bought them en-masse at wholesale prices while smaller outlets supposedly had trouble getting them to many of their customers.
Wizards should do something to rectify this. Either print a bit more, or perhaps make an "inferior" version to launch side by side at a lower price point. This "inferior" version could be just the 15 cards in simpler packaging, and non-foil, so as to not to diminish the collector value of the main product, while still providing an outlet for more budget conscious players to get just the cards.
Sol Ring would break extended and standard wide open. Definitely disk; compare it to the original disk.
yeah sol ring would break extended and standard wide open, but you cant use the FTV:relic cards in any format that is not already legal in, so there really isnt a problem.

This argument makes no sense.
Real-world relics DO NOTHING. They don't have the real-world equivalent of activated abilities. They just sit there, deaf, dumb, and stupid.
A fantasy relic could easily be something with a static ability -- how is Null Rod not a "relic"? Umezawa's Jitte is much closer to the real-world definition of a relic, since a relic usually means something that was owned/used by a specific, noteworthy person. I doubt they'll worry too much about that, though.
Back on top, Mana Crypt would make this thing nuts. The secondary market for those has been stagnant for a long time and people actually need them for EDH now.
I'm confident the picture is Nevinyrral's Disk. Not only does it feature a disk absorbing its surroundings, it also features a hand holding the disk like in the original picture.
It's most likely disk. It's iconic, saw lots of play, and would help drive up hype for the set.
I wouldn't rule out sol ring, either (or both) would be nice.
I'd like to see:
Sol Ring
Disk
Sword of Fire and Ice
Sword of Light and Shadow
Voltaic Key
Thran Dynamo
Engineered Explosives
Mana Vault
Triskelion
Masticore
Aether Vial
Smokestack
Winter Orb
Millstone
Nullrod
Yeah that's probably really a greedy list.
I must say I LOVE that list more than any other. my cube would love the two swords and the vial. ANd Smokestack would be handy too even if it doesnt go in the cube. However yourt list is 15 cards. Remember, one of the 15 is a "preview" of the next October set

The EDH staples comment makes me hope for Mindslaver, if just for the updated text leaving out the "mana burn" comment.
Other possible options could be things like Crucible of Worlds, Vedalken Shackles, maybe Grim Monolith?
Probably right, but still it is iconic of an era and people would jump at the chance to easily pick up a foil. Just my wish list for cube/edh needs
Deep Analysis
Well this is all going by IN GAME power. Story wise the most powerful and Iconic relics would be: (Warning: Possible Vorthosian Debate)
That Which was Taken, Apocalypse Chime, Dolmen Gate, Legacy Weapon/Skyship Weatherlight, Memnarch, Mirari, Reaper King, Karn...
Sen Triplets would be fun too...it seems like no one is speculating any Legendary Artifact Creatures...
I would love to see a new That Which was Taken and Reaper King.
Mana Crypt seems too obvious...only released as a limited print promo...needed desperately for EDH players...yeah it'll be there.
