Nothing in this game is degenerate or completely dominant. They haven't banned anything in standard in a long, long time. Hell they should have banned affinity right away, but they didn't until boxed sales collapsed too. Hasbro had to come in and fire people.
I'll enjoy watching all the whiners eat crow monday.
Good marketing.
I'd be sold if there would be a pamphlet that explained how sorry they were to change the rules but made Harry Potter turn them back to normal again, so noone would remember what happened and we could live happily ever after again... Gilded but not gold.
They better do that in the first print of every non-core set for any of the old cards. That would be nice and new players would see what people played with in the old times.

Cult of the Succubi Eating Kitten and Brotherhood of Hamsters - Zombie One/Hulking One - Brotherhood of Hamsters disapproves of Damage on the Stack amputation, the corruption of Mythics, and the "Major changes to Extended" in July 2010. You aborted our cards., but we approve of the Modern format. Even if it doesn't ha ve Carrion Feeder or Caller of the Claw in it.

it just made a prerelease be like a Christmas. You paid a booster, but you are super excited because you may get a special gift as well. Very good marketing, I hope that this is for the whole run of Zendikar, not just initial prerelease packs. Kudos, WOTC, you learned how to get players happy - by getting our boosters more valuable than they were before.

GENERATION 9: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the generation. social experiment. and I hate Cancel, too.
Has WOTC made an official statement regarding this?
No, unless this is a statement:
Originally Posted by Tom LaPille, Latest Developments Welcome to the last day of Zendikar previews. Furthermore, the site's official Landfall Week is not far away. To handle this, I've decided to split one landfall article between those two weeks. Today I'll tackle some cards that are already on the visual spoiler, and in two weeks we'll have a look at some cards that aren't officially public yet.
There are 36 boosters in a box, right? Well, if you say that, by the time the first two cards were seen (Recall and Candelabra), 10 boxes were opened, that would be 360 packs.
If the distribution is, indeed, one card per 10 boxes, there is a 92% probability that 2 or fewer cards would have been seen. (Stated another way, there is only an 8% chance that we would have seen 2 cards.)
If the amount of product opened could be known, we could actually narrow down the 'official' rarity. However, the data used would have to be verified. That is, we have to know that the packs opened were each individually checked for this event. If not, then this would be more rare than the analysis would tell us.
Oh, and I know someone here has the .sig that says WotC could put $100 bills in boosters, and people would complain about how they were folded? I'm getting shades of that right now.
This isn't April 1 anymore guys... I refuse to believe this, no matter how factual. It's just... ridiculous in a bad way.
Finally a concise reason to join the doomsayers. I think I'm quitting Magic.
I mean, why would they do that? Making scrubs who're just getting into the game gain $100 cards? That's the epitome of unfair (imagine how awfully noobs will be ripped off). This is the wrong move to get people to make them run out of product... I mean, seriously? I sure damn hope this brings the prices of some old cards down...
oh man, oh god...
If faith > facts, I have hope that this is all a huge RickRoll.^_^
Please, tell me this is a bad dream and I'm about to wake up...:muh:
I wonder if we will see some skull clamp in their too.... they did take alot back when it was banned in good old darksteel........ if they are just redistrabuting old cards
I'll admit I was wrong and I appologise to the original posters.
This is absolutely fantastic i'm going to have to buy several boxes of this(well I was anyway for things like the fetches but now there's even more reason). I'd love to get some facts on how often this happens, but that's going to take a while. It's going to be really interesting to see kids who only started in the last year suddenly pull a power 9 card and not know what it is or what they should do with it.
That's about as close as you can get, I guess. It somewhat acknowledges that they are doing this. Two weeks, though? These cards are going to be public knowledge tomorrow during the pre-release and they're waiting that long to say something. =\
As if Zendikar packs weren't going to sell like hot cakes already. Now we could potentially run into a situation where very few get any cards after the mad grab for the initial supply run.
Since I'm primarily a Type 2 player, I would have to hope to open one of those power rares and trade it for a huge pile of Type 2 cards in that situation.

Several years ago, WotC apparently surveyed Magic players across the globe. They found that people liked turning things sideways, and hated LD. This is the result:

I really wish I could make it to a pre-release.
Honestly, I think he means about 'unspoiled' ZEN cards.
Especially considering his phrasing. (Article was written days ago.)
While I can agree this is happening, WoTC hit it out of the park with this, because they knew even IF someone opened one, people wouldn't believe them online. (lo and behold) This is the sort of thing that will make prereleases very interesting.
The only question now is...are they doing this for the entire printing of the set?
I just got a PM from another member who opened a box after seeing this thread.
He got TWO. Bayou and Lion's Eye Diamond.

Can be marketing stategie for destroy yugioh (remember that in yugi you still can crack for booster 250$ card, i don't remember the name of the card, but can be)
Exactly.
Here in Japan, there is considerably more competition between other CCGs. In any given CCG shop in Tokyo (even in the bigger ones), you'll find a fairly even spread of attention to others like Gundam Wars, Lycee, Yugioh, and probably others that I can't remember (almost every single animation company has their own game).
So you can consider it a cash grab for the dominant game to print even more money, but on this side of the pond, the market is pretty tight.
The only question now is...are they doing this for the entire printing of the set?
I definitely hope not. Now that I think about it just being the Prerelease product, it makes much more sense, and I actually like the idea (it calms my fears). It might have been a ploy to cause excitement about the Prerelease. Prices for that event are already fixed and won't be changed because of this. Also, it won't cause an immediate shortage of product...
If it were the whole print run of the set... then Magic really IS doomed.:gonk:
Here's how it can be negative (for someone like me, who never opens a pack).
The prices for booster boxes could go through the roof. Especially if there are a lot of people (with lots of dough) who collect older cards decide they want to have some fun and buy several cases.
Here's how it can be positive (for someone like me who never opens a pack).
Hopefully there will be tons of common/uncommon playsets on ebay because of all the people buying cases and cases with nothing to do with all the of the non-reserved cards.
At the very least it's a very interesting ploy that will make people talk about the game more.

All singles for ZEN will be cheaper if people overbuy boxes. And that isn't a bad thing for players at all.
As I said in a previous post, a member opened TWO in one box.
Might have been a fluke, but shows they aren't as rare as we thought. Might be as rare as a foil rare.
Why is this 'the end of magic, etc' if this goes the entire printrun?
This set was ALREADY the biggest selling in years.
Before Lotus Cobra
Before a great deal of the spoiler was finished
Before this announcement
Sales are ridiculous as they are.
But then again, this might buy into the claims of distributors that WoTC was 'holding back product'...maybe that product doesn't have the 'treasures' in it.

OMG, that's insane Buy a box, 36 rares/mythics, maybe some foil cool stuff, 34 full art basic land AND a Recall and dual land
What language were the cards pulled out of the foreign boxes? I have had 2 cases of japanese zendikar on preorder since 2 months ago and it would suck if there were none of these in any of it because there aren't japanese versions of a lot of the cards on the reserved list.
I wonder how high the boxes/cases are going to jump on Ebay. They were already high in price, now they'll be outrageously high. Better get yours now before the people that have them listed at Buy it Now change their prices.
Several people are saying that maybe this is an official confirmation of the "priceless treasures" in boosters. I may be reading it wrong, but isn't he just saying that in two weeks is going to talk about some landfall cards that haven't been officially spoiled yet?
I agree.
WoTC hasn't really given much hints.

so I'll order some more cases to prove you guys wrong :D:D:D:D
I do not sign 5yr+ old cards. Please do not pm me for this.
I'm just waiting to see if anyone busts a Black Lotus.
I thought that putting the full art lands in boosters was the best way to get them to sell and nothing else would be better. I stand corrected.
