Dosn't WotC's distribution agreements only apply to distributors and shops?
Wizards have no way of knowing what I do with my product. And I haven't signed any agreement saying I couldn't re-sell my store-bought product.
granted, Wizards cannot police private individuals. But the tone I managed to get from the email, was that it WASN'T an individual person, but rather a store who had bought a mass quantity of sealed product from this site.

from what i'm getting is either they put a sting in place for such sale of cards. or one of the major to's got mad of the undercut. then went through and contacted a few retailers and such. then after all said and done this place got caught by some greedy person. As it's really hard for wotc to truely prove the site did sell those cards. i'm sure wotc will indeed send there product. maybe late and not first print run because of this. But i'm sure they don't want to lose that such in sales. so if you are a lucky person who ordered. either find a good price or wait. worse come to worse you can allways cancel later on.

Keep in mind too, EU countries pay the VAT tax, which as I understand it is fairly hefty.
I've sold stuff to people in the EU from Ebay, they usually ask me to list it as a gift and declare the value to be something really low, like $20 IIRC.
So it's quite possible some store is using this to get a cheaper price due to bypassing VAT. It's a 15% tax, on top of any other taxes that may be collected. So figure, they're saving $10-15 dollars and probably cutting the price by that much, underselling everyone else by a fair bit. Which makes other stores unhappy.
It's also tax evasion, and the EU tends to be a bit harsh towards companies. While this wouldn't directly affect WOTC, the EU probably wouldn't be very happy. If the EU noticed, they'd probably notify WOTC, and expect them to take action.
So whether the EU noticed and notified WOTC, or some other store turned them in, either way it's really in WOTC's best interests to handle this quickly and definitively, unfortunately, Cardkid is on the losing end of this one, I've done buisness with him and been satsified, sorry to see him get the crap end.
Anyone complaining that now they won't be able to buy their boxes becuase the price might jump is just being greedy to begin with.
1) Any Online store that cancels orders and raises prices, will till have them under MSRP
2) It gives reason to support Brick and Mortar Stores, which we all shoul be doing rather then worrying about the 10 bucks extra to begin with.
3) The et was sold out prior to this coming to light. So if you ordered a box, and now your worried you won't get 2, well then tough luck. If your scrambling now to get that extra box becuase of these, than your part of the same problem your complaining about.
Jut have fun. Really. It's not hard. Maybe pulling stuff like this every block will get preorders up, and get the print run size back up. I can tell you that 5 years down the road, you won't care that you had to wait a month etra to get your 3rd box of Zendikar in, but you will remember when the guy 2 seats over in a draft pulled a Mox out of nowhere.
Well, most people seem to totally slipped the fact that Zendikar is not just "Priceless treasures", it is "Deadly perils and priceless treasures".
So, we do not have smallpox packs, and I'm not talking about the card, so what?
A perfect adventure feel: first, try to get you some product. Find, steal or borrow. Deadly perils and fraudlent online retailers await you:) And then, unlikely yet possibly, you may just open some!
on a side note. I think we need to maybe contact some to and talk to them about a growing problem with these money rares. What is stoping a little kid pulling a mox. saying eww this sucks it only gives me mana. then some shark saying i'll give you this foil card for it.(pointing at some random big foily creature) That is going to suck even more for the kid when he finds out it's worth a lot. maybe the to's or more people can have a lookout for sharks majorly riping off people. only because they don't know what it is and can't use it
I think every local level TO with moral scruples tries to do this already. Most of my players defer to me for adjucation on trades. While I'm not anywhere near a guru on prices, I can tell when someone is trying to shark someone.
Can we stay on topic, this is about the hidden treasures in packs, not presales and getting screwed.
I disagree, I think this thread entails people's opinion of wizard's decision to do this, which includes their opinion about whether people are getting screwed because of the shortage.
My local store got a new owner in just the last year, but he is doing everything he can to support the local players. Keeping pre-order locked in at $90 instead of raising when others did. Extra prizes for FNM, etc.
If you play at a store, please buy local to support that store. If you only play on your kitchen table, consider finding a local store to increase your playgroup.
for those who are curious, the following is the reason that CardKid / CaptainCollect has given for why they are canceling orders:
We have just been notified by Wizards of The Coast (WOTC) that apparently a CardKid customer has been recently reselling our boosters to businesses in Germany and/or possibly other restricted areas, which is against Wizards of The Coast/Hasbro policy. We are attempting to internally identify the individual(s).
**** In the meantime Wizards has canceled all CardKid Zendikar PreOrders ****
We are pursuing legal counsel against Wizards for canceling their shipments without proper Notice and/or Proof Of Breach.
It has nothing to do with a low supply and everything to do with Wizards canceling their order.
See what I dont understand is why wizards shuts down the supply for everyone just because some dumbass decides to violate their policies. Well now my 35 dollar fat pack will cost 40 plus, no matter if i buy it locally or over ebay. Wizards is really going for the cash grab on this one. money snake, mythic trap, "treasure".

I guess I'll get off my soapbox now
i agree 100 percent with this. support your local shops, because magic shops (especially in my area) are all going out of business. my local store owner is a good guy. i choose to support him
The reason they shut down the entire supply is the same reason why I think it was Magic Corporation got cut off a while back. Someone's reselling cards. These cards are traced by their tracking codes to their store. For all WOTC knows that store is the one doing the selling, so to prevent it continuing, they cut the supply. When someone gets busted for the breach, they'll probably re-instate supply.
So, like, why are you guys still talking about the costs of boosterboxes in here? Splitting of threads, mods, kthnx?
I am still a bit dumbfolded about these priceless treasures. I noticed someone said there was a Black Lotus as well. Man, he really has the best day of his life. I hope, though, it's someone who's been playing a long time, you know, someone who actually earns it to open up such a jewel. Way to go, Wizards, you got one hell of a promotion!

So you're of the school of though in which people who are life long gamblers have more right to win than short term or occasional gamblers? I'm one of those long time players and while I'd love to be the one to open something like that, I still won't begrudge the kid who just started in this past year. After all the new players are the future of the game and having something like that happen would probably give someone a life long passion for the game.
so its confirmed but the ratio is staggering... 1 vintage insert every 36 boxes... well here's to hoping that every print wotc releases does have a treasure for more supplies.
(M:tG) It's a hobby which costs money. You can't play golf without the right clubs and a membership for the golf court, you can't play paintball with a cardboard armor and a sling, you can't go to the movies without paying for a ticket and you can't play Magic without owning the cards. Simple as that.
The scrubland was in an english box, english card and the card was white bordered, probably resvied. I did not see said card though and it was pulled by the store owner that doesn't play magic.
I thnk the deadly peril is they will be only in the first print run.
I feel bad for people who have lost their preorders because of this madness.
This is also why the reserved list was a terrible idea in the first place, if they had already made another print run of many of these cards there wouldn't be this madness going in. The old ones are never going to lose their value if new ones are made. No way not at this point in time.
EDIT: I bet this combats the people who "crack" the print run, since these are at a random distribution they could appear in packs that have no regard for the print run. Not to mention that it makes sense now to just buy random packs of cards.
"I can't draft objectively unless I am able to guarantee that I receive at least 3 rares. I am also better than most average/new players so I want to make sure that I get the best rares and they end up with worse ones. I care more about the monetary value of cards than actually playing the game for decent prizes."

So you're saying a re-printed Black Lotus wouldn't cause the price to drop like it's hot?
1. Box prices. Box prices jumped 10 bucks across the board when the rumors started
leaking out at the PR's. This might be a blessing to some B&M stores. If they
get there there normal shipments people will probably buy from them over the
online options. Getting the Promo DoJ will make it more worth buying local.
2. If indeed this is only being done with the 1st print run then we need a way to know
how to tell the difference from each print run.
3. Im sick of hearing everyone say this is a cash grab. Wizards in a business just like
any other. They want to make money. The more money the make the better us
players get supported. If all of this was only a cash grab then they have the worst
marketing team ever for not actually advertising this.
4. Thank you Wizards for thinking of your players and wanting to give us something
back during these hard times.

Ahh, that makes sense.
Thanks Rax and Cedwin, for clearing that up.

Very nice. This is the only card they could put in that I might not be inclined to sell. Just a big fan of Mishra's Workshop.
