According the announcement on the WoTC page, core sets will now be released yearly, and will include about half new cards.
The article also spoils some of these cards, confirming the Lorwyn walkers will return, and they are making a new cycle of duals for this set.

yay for planeswalkers. I was actually going to trade them away but I guess it's good they tell this to us now or else I'd have to pick them up again. NEW duals? Awwwwww

serra angel is now an uncommon? what is that all about?
other than that is seems like it could work. smaller sets and core sets that offer new cards, stange but interesting...
No old duals...now I'm quite curious what these new land cards are. After Lorwyn and 10th rotate, how am I going to reliably get 3 colours by turn 3 for my Shards decks?!

Phylactery Lich will forever be known, to me at least, as Pimpin' Lich. Get up on it, suckas.
OMFG. I'm excited for this beyond belief, although scared about the reprints. I need to do my homework to see which 8 that have always been reprinted will make it. Also, the fact that they are doing new duels is awesome. I think it probably came about from the rush of ppl trying to get ravs, etc. Okay in my book, although I'm still losing the pain lands. :/
Pretty great idea, IMO. Glad to see that they won't have to shoehorn new Core Set cards into the expansions anymore, and I'm especially glad that they're deciding to revisit the classical fantasy feel that Alpha had -- I love the things that new Magic sets do with their settings, but I've always missed that original feeling that helped draw me in to the game in the first place.

angel was an uncommon in the original alpha/beta set.. and it's just returning to what it should be.. .. ugh.. the set symbol is ugly..
Hurray for some and boo for others. As it said, we get planeswalkers again, but will we get new ones? I really hope so but i also highly doubt it. And yay, now serra angel is uncommon and they are bringing back Black Knight...

i like the concept. yes, it gives us incentive to buy core sets, but it also solves the problem wizards has been dealing with. Instead of four full sets one year and three full sets with a core set the next year we can see 3 full sets, one partial set, and all at a reduced cardpool size of the past few years ( i reference the cutbacks announced last year).
its a cool concept. The only thing i DO NOT like is the 6 new mythics and the new dual lands. It is already such a pain to get dual lands, i was hoping that secondary market prices would come down with the introduction certain dual lands in the core set (shocklands would have been great). Also, with the mythics, while having planeswalkers at certain spots we still do not have a defined purpose for mythics. Are they supposed to be legendary creatures, epic feeling spells? Neither of these were fulfilled with conflux really, and so far the entire promotion has been underwhelming except for the Walkers.
Well, this is quite interesting. Reworked core sets, rarities, grammar, even, new cards? (Silence seems ridiculous, btw). This could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Glad I still have my Garruks...
I hope these lands are allied only, though. Or if not, at least uncommon (sad painland face).
I'm in complete shock as to how awesome this new core set plan really is. New cards?! New MYTHIC cards?! This really is an exceptional decision on wotc's part and i'm dying to get my hands on a core set for the first time ever. So awesome.
I don't want simplicity to be the driving factor in what we present newer players with. Instead, cards in the core set should drive interest and excitement in the game
This is why Forsythe is one of my favorite people at Wizards. This is exactly what the core set should be -- the most exciting cards even if they have to be a bit complex, not the simplest cards even if they have to be a bit boring.
Most of the changes look very sensible to me; the core sets have been ignored by the established player base (other than as a list of cards legal in standard, as the article points out) for some time now and any changes that try to reverse that situation are welcome. A lot of the new artwork looks fantastic, printing new cards will entice a lot more players to buy the set and if they've tried to make it more interesting to draft then that's all positive.
My chief concern is that the turnover is changing to once per year: clearly WotC making a profit is a good thing to those who want the company--and the game-- to survive, but I don't like the idea of the core set cycling through so many cards so fast, it's going to be an added strain on the wallet.

Holy hell....I didn't even notice that. I was just so stoked for Black Knight's return that I missed that detail.
All I want for Emergency Christmas (read: M-10) is for Bad Moon to come along for the ride.
Something else I wanted to point out---
There has been some speculation as to which set of existing dual lands will be in the next core set, and the answer may surprise: none of them. We wanted to make a cycle of powerful dual lands that risk-averse newer players would like, which meant coming up with something that didn't involve losing life. Sorry, painlands, fetchlands, and Ravnica duals. Trust me, the new ones are awesome!
I wonder if they're just going to do the allied ones or make ones for all ten pairs. Interesting.....
If nothing else, at least we'll never see stupid ♥♥♥♥ like Coldsnap, Un-whatever again.

I think WotC is intentioanlly trying to screw up the game now.
Yeah, they hate our money so much that they're going to intentionally mess things up until Magic dies, right. Sigh, Magic has "died" about 1,100 times in the last five years. Enough already.

It's not implied, it's blatantly stated:
Quote from Aaron Forsythe »
As with all previous core sets, we'll be "rotating in" recent cards—not all the reprints are from Magic's early days. The most high-profile of these more contemporary reprints are the five Lorwynplaneswalkers, promoted to their rightful place as mythic rares
That is rather evil in my opinion. While I am intrigued that they mention that they are powerful dual lands I am quite mad that I just bought a playset of Brushlands and Karplusan Forests >.>.

The new dual lands aren't necessarily going to be rares. It doesn't say specifically that they are rares, does it? It seems to me that if they think pain lands are a deterant to new players... paying 10 or 20 bucks for a land card would deter new players too.
The article also spoils some of these cards, confirming the Lorwyn walkers will return, and they are making a new cycle of duals for this set.
