The point is- you should be running 4 CotH, and then Trolls, and then Mirri. BUT, there are exceptions. But the point I was making, is the fact that she's even on the list with those other two is not bad. She would make an interesting 2-of in the sideboard, for the MGA matchup. As I'm sure MGA will show up eventually now that 2 Hurricanes, and this many quality creatures are in T2... Quagnoth, Tarmogoyf, Groundbreaker- lots of quality green. Black is basically being stuck in control- no acceleration left but the Muse. I'll still play MBC!
Interesting, yes, but all I'm saying is that I don't see it happening because you can only fit so many 3MC creatures in your deck without risking flooding that particular part of your mana curve. As you said, Call of the Herd and Troll Ascetic are automatic inclusions, but there are other cards in line that are worthier of inclusion than Mirri (Ohran Viper, Groundbreaker, and Yavimaya Dryad), but they aren't seeing as much play because there isn't any more room for 3-drops. There's also the matter of Auras, since the most powerful creature-pumping Auras inexplicably cost 3: Griffin Guide, Moldervine Cloak, and Blanchwood Armor.
Good call, mate. Five bucks say that the next few posts relevant to this argument will point out that Isao can be chump-blocked and can't defend if you attacked with him. Despite the fact that he possesses a clearly better arsenal of abilities (can't be countered, bushido, and regeneration > forestwalk, first strike, and vigilance). Despite the fact that most removal that are actually used these days find little difference between 1 toughness and 3 toughness. Despite the fact that Isao never made so much as a ripple when he was Standard-legal.
People will still insist that Mirri will be used. And I bet that this argument would never have surfaced if she wasn't so damned cool. A card named "Stalking Panther" with exactly the same stats (even WITHOUT being legendary), and with art that shows some lameass jungle cat on a tree will not be as debated as Mirri.
This IS a core set... Cards in core sets almost always have reminder text just for novice players. Don't like it? Get foils.
Yet Another [Æther] Vort... err... Banner! And Avatar! Thanks, Le_Gambit!
