I am not upset that PeV got in, since both cards have their own merits. Let's just hope PeV gets another new art, since the Exodus and 9E ones are simply 'not suitable'.
As for this week's vote, go go Troll! Ravenous is sweet in the Rock deck, but I loved it when I equip my Troll with Sword of Fire and Ice or the fork. It is the reason why Forests are on demand.
As for the lands, heres my votes:
Plains: John Avon
Island: Terese Nielsen
Swamp: Ron Spencer 1 (I dislike all of them actually.)
Mountain: Jeff Miracola
Forest: Glen Angus
Quote from Aaron Forsythe on Guildpact: Twenty Questions »
When Guildpact was handed over from design, it also had seven gold rares per guild,... and that the seventh gold rare in each guild was less important to the set than the Nephilim. So each guild is down a rare in this set.
Gruul, Izzet and Orzhov. Officially screwed by WOTC.
Maybe they will do a *** vs. 'Geddon vote? That would just be mean. As for the current vote, TAFTW! Seriously, they give us 3 options when the Troll will pretty much beat anything they pit it against. why?
I believe they're throwing us a bone, to see if we'll pick the 'right' choice.
Like that whole Glorious Anthem/Crusade thing, but not going so retardedly wrong.

Underling Ethu's 263rd report read simply "Yes, my lord.Overwhelmingly, my lord." This marked the end of the Mirran-Phyrexian War.
I voted Troll too, but because I like killing them more than the Baloth. Black global sweepers/sac effects still get him. But at least when you kill him he doesn't gain your opp more life, or when you blow up the board watching your opponent gain 8-12 life is more frustrating than having to figure out how to kill the trolls.
I don't like Djinn, and I think, in this t2 environment, Troll Ascetic will be better then Ravenous Balroth. He gets my vote.
Um, this t2 environment wont be around a year from now... just a guess...
Also, just because ascetic is the best of the three doesn't mean that it should be reprinted. If there was a pick between stasis and counterspell, which would you chose (I stole that pick from another thread ;)). Um, if you voted for stasis, then you are evil/ignorant of the evil it caused in the past. But I digress. There is no way to deal with turn 3 ascetic in control short of wrath of god and remand (unless something shows up in time spiral or tenth: stuff from ravnica will rotate soon after tenth and kamigawa will be long gone) Also, with rav rotating out after tenth, heirarch, cytoplast root-kin, and solifuge will all dissapear, and green will have no good four-drops! *Gasp*! Seriously, though, baloth will give green a chance to combat future weenie and burn with lifegain, while at the same time not slaughtering control with invicible stuff like ascetic. I think djinn doesn't really stand a chance unless I have underestimated nostalgia's effect on voting preference.
Also, if ascetic wins, no one will be surprised because it is clearly the fan favorite, but if baloth wins, then I can say I told you so. Ha!
...I still think he is the best creature ever printed... and well, that's my opinion. So, whatever you do, vote for Troll Ascetic, no matter what card you think will be the best.
Um, and ancestrall recall is best intant, and balance is best sorcery (or time walk), and black lotus is best artifact, and stasis is best enchantment, and library of alexandria is best land... let's reprint them! Yay! (I know those aren't necessarily the best, but you get the point).
Card versus Card: Troll Ascetic
Plains Results: John Avon
Island Results: John Avon
Swamp Results: Rob Alexander 1
Mountain Results: Glen Angus
Forest Results: John Avon
you should all vote John Avon, his lands are the best.

I agree: John Avon lands own! Those are the only lands I will take in draft! (Of course, only if the rest is jank). I agree with swamp and mountain choices as well; those are clearly the most aesthetically pleasing and detailed of the non-avon lands.
There's no way in hell WotC is trying to "throw us a bone" by sticking Ernie in with Troll/Baloth(and if they are, then they're a whole lot dumber than I thought)... that's mainly due to the fact that the Djinn could not possibly win, because 95% of players don't think 'Geddon will EVER be reprinted. So, using proper logic(and not nostalgia), most people will vote for Baloth/Troll... and when the Geddon/*** vote is presented to us(hey, anything's possible ), everyone that didn't vote for the Djinn will then **** their pants, knowing that the core of a 'Geddon deck of old could have been printed again in a FRIGGIN CORESET.
And even if both cards were to make it, there's nothing to say that there would be ANY support for another Ernham 'Geddon deck to actually be competitive... who knows, 'Geddon might have been better as a weenie strategy or a missing piece to some combo/control deck(I seriously doubt it, but whatever :-/). That's why you pick what you think will be best in some RANDOM format you know nothing about... because, frankly, all we know about T2 in the fall of 2007 is that Paladin En-Vec and Hurricane will be included in that format(and coldsnap, obv)... we know nothing else.

And guess what? Troll most definately is NOT broken... all the cards you just listed were overly broken in every format they were ever legal in, so I see no comparison there... And actually, lots of people can argue with me that Hyppie was the best creature ever printed, and it saw the light of day in 9E, so I don't see why Troll couldn't have the chance to shine again...

What a shame I recently got rid of my trolls, possibly one of the 5 best creatures ever printed.
I think that troll is the obvious vote here. Baloth is good, but it is really just a 4/4 that gains you 4 life, something that Loxodon Heirarch already does.
I voted troll for the obvious reasons people have given it and if theres even some remotely good equipment printed in 10th, time spiral block, coldsnap or whatever is after time spiral.
As for the lands I voted for the ones I thought looked the coolest. The only one Im really hoping wins is the swamp I voted for so the rest Ill be happy no matter who wins.
Plains- D J Cleland Hura
Island- Terese Nielsen
Swamp- Ron Spencer 2
Mountain- Jeff Miracola
Forest- Glen Angus
from the looks of it though the only one of em that might win would be the forest
EDIT: Praise the lord that AC did not win the last card vote I could not be happier. All my lands lost though my forest even came in last and I voted Moeller for all the rest of em but people made good choices so Im happy with this vote
Every rarity gets good cards. That means that some mythic rares will be tournament quality as will some commons, some uncommons and some rares. My promise wasn't that mythic rares wouldn't get good cards but that we wouldn't limit the good cards to only being mythic rare.
Bear this in mind the next time a powerful mythic rare is spoiled
Thanks to chaostheory90 for finding this quiz for me
Tooth and nail was really good, it dominated standard, it was one of the only truly competitive decks at the time other than raffinity, which also dominated. Now, would you like ravager or tooth to be reprinted? Probably not. Now, imagine a card like tooth or ravager, but one that would be even more insane reprinted because it is not only good in mirrodin block, but also no matter what set it is reprinted in. This is where you get troll ascetic. Yes it is insane, yes it is almost invicible, yes it is one of the best creatures ever printed, but that is the express reason why it should NOT be reprinted. Mirrodin didn't even focus on weenie strageties, favoring combo strategies and affinity, and ascetic still owned. Now image an era where aggro, tempo, and removal are king; ascetic has the potential to be way to abusable (unless time spiral focuses on control, which is doubtful, but admittedly possible).
Vote Baloth! Vote Timmy/Johnny! Leave Spike in the dust! Whooooooo!
the champion lost...dammit! :(...your time will come..paladin...it will come...
This week is definitely between the baloth and the troll...both creatures that in the past have annoyed me to no end (the baloth less so). I think I'll pick the baloth...mainly because it would lead to a more balanced environment (imho), where the game is not dominated by a certain 3/2 nigh invulnerable creature. A 4/4 for 4 with a nifty sac ability feels alot more safer, and if wizards prints quality beasts, that's just gravy.
as for the lands, I really don't see what you people see in avon's lands, really. They are just too bland (well, the island is the best looking of the lot, but the plains and forest...yuk). Seeing the response however, I guess avon would win where he's selectable.
I am in the "anything but Troll" camp. Not because he is uber-competitive or amazing with equipment/auras (imagine a cloaked up troll, no thanks!), but because imo Mirrodin was the single worst block Wizards have ever printed- and the sooner we expunge any record of its existence from Magic's history the better.
The artifact aspect of Mirrodin was the only bad part, everything else was pretty win imo.
Troll for the win! I love that card, and with what ravinca has brought us the troll is just as bad @ss as it ever was, it looks damn good sitting next to guys like watchwolf, loxodon heiharch and moldervine cloaks. a troll with a loxodon war hammer is game.
baloth isn't that exciting to me id rather swing with a 6/2 regenerating untargetable life gaining trampling monster than to sacing a beast to survive the round.

Seriously... just vote Troll, you'll feel better.
EDIT@stanalquin: Ravnica block will only be in Standard with Tenth for two months and change. Moldervine Cloak isn't even a consideration here. Imagine a Troll with Blanchwood Armor, then puke and vote for it anyway.
Voted for Troll Ascetic.
I don't have any Baloths, but quite frankly Troll Ascetic is an incredible creature so I'd vote for it even if I didn't have a playset.
As far as the lands - John Avon does do some amazing ones, although I generally prefer Rob Alexander.
But PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD - don't vote blindly on your favourite artist. Everyone should immediately ignore any of the lands that have already seen print in 8th and 9th edition - variety is the spice of life and I collect foil lands (well, foil everything really), and I don't really want to have more copies of the same damn land again and again.
Most of these lands are decent enough, so just take a minute to actually look at the pics and compare them to what is already available in the new format, and go for the best NEW lands!
As a result, my votes are:
Plains: D.J. Cleland-Hura - nice and subtle, should foil well. John Avon's is already available so ignore him. Island: Terese Nielsen - Both Avon's and Szczudlo's are already available so ignore them. Nielsen's art is the default remaining choice since the Riche land is....... poor. Swamp: Rob Alexander 2. All pretty much of a muchness. When in doubt I go for the lightest one since the lighter cards tend to foil the best As far as I'm aware all the lands are 'new' so knock yourselves out. Mountain: Glen Angus. Not the best lot to choose from. Miracola's one is boring, as is Bailey's. Cavotta is ok, but I reckon Angus' one will foil better. Forest: Very tough for me. I like Pollack 1 (2 is a bit random for me), but I'll go with Angus' again. Nice and subtle and original. Avon's land, while amazing in foil, is already in 9th, so feel free to ignore it.
I didn't vote for the invasion lands (too many already in print in new foil format), so this was a bit 'meh' to me. I like unusual (not Ravnica unusual, mind - I'm talking as in when you have all your same lands in a row, they don't blend together into seemingly identical art), so I'm still really hoping one of these forests (version 1 and 3 particularly), (can't seem to link to a particular card within an expansion) makes it in - they are such original colours
THE TROLL IS BACK! Well, maybe the baloth is back, but either way I have a playset of both. Am I tripping, or Wotc is giving us some pretty exciting decisions this time around?
I'm also happy that the paladin made the cut since it is obviously the superior card. Good job people.

Troll Ascetic

Forest - Pollack 2 (bored to death of plain trees like in Avon and Pollack 1)

I voted for the Troll because he is one of my favorite green vreatures ever, plus i already have 2... I have 5 Ernhams, and used to love playing Ernham-Geddon back in the day, but the nostalgia can't beat out the Troll or the Baloth, but the Troll still takes the cake above the Baloth...Gotta love an effiecient Costed, beater that regens and cant be targeted by them... God I love the Troll... I will be so happy if he comes back...
In the land vote I voted for:
Plains: Scott Bailey ( i like the stonehenge looking thing)
Island: Terese Nielsen
Swamp: Ron Spencer 1
Mountain: Matt Cavotta
Forest: Glen Angus
Please, accept that Magic costs money to play, and drop it. A playset of Baneslayers>playset of duals. New Jace>Force of Will. Etc... Not to mention, Legacy is so wide open, that it's easy to build a deck that can perform reasonably well without very many "money staples" at all.
One problem I've had with Ernham Djinn is that upgrade to rare. Its the same problem I had with hurricane. I hate cards that jump from Uncommon to Rare. (with a few exceptions, I'm looking at you Hammer)
Troll. Again, I wouldn't feel too bad if Baloth won (and I was also thinking of a certian white sorcery when I saw Erine), but I would love the Troll to be in 10th. It's my favorite creature ever printed.
Though Ichorid comes a close second (before this year's Extended too, I wanted to use it with Skullclamp, but noooo. Thanks Wizards.)
